Nah, the statue you guys are talking about, the one with 8 arms and the save state restoring potion and lazers and all the other hax powers died. Kato killed the statue in the "last" fight of the mission. Then the statue reveals its final form as the six armed slimy reptile thing by animorphing with the glasses nerdy kid. Then Kato killed the statues reptile final form too, but it commited a reverse sudoku by impaling Kato through the heart at the last minute for a crit one shot insta kill.

Anyway, I understand why you guys are confused. When Kurono brings Kato back to life some 150 chapters later, Kato, while dead, has been having some sort of nightmare / in a limbo state where he's still fighting the statue. Then when he wakes up, he has no memory of killing the statue, or killing the statue's final form.

I've read this series so many times. I know it's not great and full of convoluted writing, plot holes, but fuck if there isn't anything else like it on this earth. I love this series.

I'm of the somewhat unpopular opinion (at leaset on /a/) that Oku realized a great deal of its potential. There are a ton of amazing moments in the series. Scenes that make you laugh, scenes that made me cry like a bitch, scenes that get you hype as fuck, scenes that make you shake with rage, moments of despair, disbelief.... it had it all.

Most of the problems that came up was that Oku kept introducing new (albeit interesting) ideas and characters without explaining any of the older ones. His reluctance to explain almost anything continuously heightened our expectations for a massive outpouring of "lore" that would explain all the bizarre and confusing aspects of his series. He waited until the very end of the manga to use a cheap plot device, the all-knowing, all-powerful alien race to explain away everything. Those chapters felt cheap and contrived. It was eerily reminiscent of the Architect scene in the Matrix Reloaded, and there's no need to explain why that is not a good thing.

If he had chosen to slowly but gradually sift out information and explanations throughout the series, instead of cramming it all into the very last few chapters, the series would have been stronger.

Oh yeah, and TAE-CHAN! KEI-CHAN! every other page during the last arc didn't do him any favors either. Still, I enjoyed the final arc.

I know. This is going off what I read in the manga, but it seems to me that the Nurari transformed into things that were either interesting to him, or the thoughts of those around him.

When the virgin guy and the heroine dude scanned him, he transformed into a girl and then a busty woman (reading Virgin-kun's mind), afterwards into the bald guy with the x-rifle's properties in his eyes (interesting to him), then to that giant shit probably after seeing the robot fight, then to something resembling Oka's suit, then to the many women while fighting the black guy (though I think he read Kuwabaras mind), and then to he formed the giant woman. He was then transformed into a ball and then his final form (I am guessing he had a skull for a face since everyone thought they were as good as dead).
