I think she has nothing to do with the witch personally, but the WN seems to differ.

Both Sekhmet and Ekidona and eveb Minerva seem to talk about Emilia like if they knew her "mother" and even mention this directly.

Ekidona hates Emilia because she is "emilia" and not because of her looks or anything. Echidna also mentions she knew Emilia's "mother".
Sekhmet seems friendly towards Emilia and mentions she knew her "mother". Emilia also felt some nostalgic feelings when talking with Sekhmet.
Minerva refused to come out and talk with Emilia directly because she said "she didn't have the face to do that". Emilia heard the "Minerva" name and also felt some kind of nostalgia.

Aside from all this, the author explicitly stated that Sekhmet and Emilia laughing together was a picture like an "already lost time" from the past.

I also have to add that Emilia's mother was the human part and it was his father the one that was an elf.

I've been thinking about the Bishops and whatever vague themes Re:Zero has, and I've come to a theory. The madness of the Sins effects people stronger when they can't face their own sins.

Betelgeuse is always shown trying to push his sins onto others. He's old as fuck, possibly even having known Flugel and having Sloth placed in his care by the Sage, yet he calls spirits slothful because of their age. He also seems to try to recreate his own sin with other couples, given how often he tries to tear apart girls in front of Subaru while blaming him for it. He needs to make someone else bear his sin because he can't do it himself, and so his Sin has almost entirely crushed and warped him.

The Bishop of Greed is similar in this regard, as he operates under the delusion that he's a kind and generous man. This really couldn't be further from the truth, since he's a selfish wife-hoarding lunatic, but to him it's everyone else who is too greedy. He's unable to recognize his own Sins, and so they've wholly consumed whoever he may once have been.

Satella's own incompatibility with the Sins probably has a similar origin. If she was really like Emilia, whose design suggests a childlike innocence and purity like undriven snow, she was probably thought of as largely sinless. However, white is a color that stains rather easily, children grow up, and "innocence" is sometimes nothing more than ignorance. That seemingly sinless nature was likely more a sign that she had never been truly tested before, and she failed quite dramatically on her first exam. She was more consumed by her Sins than any who came before or after, possibly because she simply didn't understand them. That's Emilia's own line, isn't it? "I don't understand".

Thearesia's backstory
This happened after she'd already inherited the Sword Saint blessing from her uncle and beaten her eldest brother in a spar in less than a second, while not even focusing on the match. The outcome of the spar terrified her and she withdrew into her room for the next (irrc) 2 years, watching her brothers all train and mentally belittling them for continuing with swordplay while being so (from her perspective) shit at it, figuring there's more enjoyable and better things for them to do. She's honestly shocked that her eldest brother still cared about her enough to console her before the battle and regrets being such a jerk, learning that her brothers kept wielding swords because they just loved swords.
When she goes out to fight in battle for the first time, she's terrified. Her eldest brother consoles her and tells her he'll protect her. Her three brothers and uncle all die in battle. She was nine. She didn't swing her sword once.
After her brothers and uncle die, she doesn't pick up a sword again until that day where she saves Wilhelm, several years later, and ends the Demihuman war (which had been ongoing for a few years at this point) by herself.
The main reason she'd been so reluctant about swords is because of her from-birth blessing, which causes all wounds made by her to be haemophilic to the point of potential death from blood loss. She'd take care not to even scratch people or let them touch shards of sharp objects she'd broken. She resented that she was born a death machine.

After the war ends and she's out in public as part of the celebration, Wilhelm, who hadn't seen her since she started fighting in the war, attacks her and wins. Because he won, he convinces her that there's no need for her to wield a sword any more, because he will for her.
In arc 5, when Wilhelm fights Theresia's reanimated corpse, he comes extremely close to beating her (about to land the final blow), until he gets distracted by Heinkel suddenly showing up. She cleaves his leg open and leaves him for dead, ending their fight. Then Reinhard shows up and oneshots her.

I don't have much else to say on that particular subject. I've just been circling some thoughts around in my head, and trying to figure out how sins are being depicted.

Speaking of which, it also reminds me of the difference between Subaru's two love interests. Both are portrayed as somehow angelic or holy at some point, but there's a deeper difference in how this is characterized. Emilia is a beacon of purity, while Rem is a sinner seeking atonement. This is also likely part of why she's better able to understand Subaru at this point, because she can recognize some of her own faults in him.

Really, Rem's role seems to focus on themes of atonement, hope, faith, and redemption. It almost seems kind of religious when I think about it, which brings me to that old spoiler about prayer.

I think that might actually give something of a contrast when we compare it to some of Betelgeuse's lines about how he thinks his faith will be rewarded. The Bishops are generally portrayed as following the Gospel for primarily selfish reasons, because it supposedly guides them to a favorable future. Their prayers and faith are to grant their own wishes.

When it comes down to it, I think someone like Rem would probably be better able to handle the Sins than the Bishops are.

Now when I look back at the Rem AU after ep 18, I thought that it was only unresolved conflict that bogged them down. I did finish it. I definitely enjoyed it a lot, way more than the previous arcs. I'm seriously baffled to see people saying Emilia didn't get any development in this arc when she's the main focus along Beatrice and probably Roswaal.

I have to say, I thought Roswaal's plans and all his hidden background would still be kept as a secret until later on, so I was really surprised when they pretty much revealed everything about him and even made him a Subaru ally.

One of the other things I enjoyed the most were the interactions with the witches, the interactions with Beatrice and the interactions with Emilia. I really enjoyed that last part where Subaru convinces Beatrice to take his hand and gets her out of the mansion before it totally burns down. I also really liked that she and Subaru made a contract, and their fight with the great rabbit was totally great.
Regarding Emilia, she had some really good development in my opinion. The trials really helped her understand her position and come to terms with her past. It's also incredible pleasant seeing how the author writes so many OTP scenes with her and Subaru, like Emilia making Subaru's triumphal pose at the same exact time as Subaru in front of Ekidona, or how the author is constantly making it so that Emilia and Subaru are meant to support each other in a two-sided relationship which was the main focus of their development, mostly Emilia's in this arc.

Aside from that, Garfield became a totally likeable character after he joined Subaru's side. I enjoy how he calls him "general" after all that happened. It's also good to know they have someone as strong as Garfield on their side now. (Considering how he could even handle Elza and Merry at the same time).

A really enjoyable arc in my opinion. It's just going to take a while before I start with arc 5.
