Why did Miura feel the need to add in so much comic relief? The Golden Age arc barely had any and never to the degree of the later arcs and it was still the most immersive and entertaining part of the manga.
>>
>>145693862
I know I shouldn't, but I'll bite. From the start, Berserk was paced as this nearly bleak world filled with darkness and tragedy. As Miura started adding in more fantasy elements, the world started becoming less dark and the series less depressing in tone. So now that were in the Fantasia arc, it makes sense that we have permanent chestnut puck and chibisidro. Personally, I think it would've been a bit more interesting to have just Guts and Puck go through everything so far by themselves. Develop that idea of "the man who lost his only companions and would rather reside in solitude, but slowly accepts the realities of his moral compass pal".
>>
>>145694329
I think the fantasy elements are fine. I'd say the part after they meet Schierke and fight the trolls was one of the better aspects of the post-golden age story. But the companions themselves seem kind of useless and Miura wasn't able to create as interesting of a character dynamic with them as he did with Griffith, Guts and Casca.
>>
>>145694329
That could still happen again. I mean this entire time Guts had his group along to help Casca to the Elf Island. I feel like we might be hitting the darker waters again with him going back on his quest to kill Griffith and who knows it might be an intentional choice from Miura to show a stark contrast in the goals Guts had. When he wanted to just kill Griffith it was the darkest the series ever was. When he changed to make sure Casca came first and make her safe, that really was when things gradually started to lighten up as well. I'm sure he'll have a dilemma whether to have these guys along for that or not. He denied Rickert from joining him to fight Griffith and he was more involved with what happen then anyone in the current party except Casca. So who knows what's going on in Miura's head right now.
>>
>>145694646
I agree. I think his world building in Fantasia is entrancing desu, but it takes away from Guts Character development which to me was the whole focus of the story. Instead, they try developing this RPG that his barely any chemistry. Personally, I feel Guts' journey couldve developed a lot better if they had arcs where he had only a single companion throughout, be it Caska/Serpico/Isidro/Farnese(or switched between the whole group with that single companion concept in mind).
>>
>>145695060
I've been drinking desu, so apologies for the typos
>>
>>145694770
It's time for him to think about himself.
First part Griffith on his mind, now Caska'escorting mission has ended, and it feels like we're entering the final stages, all about himself and what he'll do, mainly cause the hammering on "revenge or save, can't have both" was pretty heavy and if Caska gains her memory back, I can't really see her going back to fight Griffith, so Guts will have to take a decision. And depriving Berserk of its final confrontation would be an insult.

>>145693862
Final decision that he'll take. Griffith, death, revenge and a possible redemption or living peacefully with Caska, sparring partener, kid that's like a little brother, loli witch, Farneze and Master and Commander.
Puck will follow him regardless.
>>
>>145693862
Because people started feeling sorry for Guts and stopped caring about the actual plot.
>>
>>145693862
Well one, after so much suffering, its likely that Muria felt he had to give some relief to both guts and the reader.
Second, you forget about the intense shit going on with Griffith. With his new band of hawk and empire. They keep things balanced by going back to Griffith's side of the story.
Third, this entire thing is about dreams/ambitions and the idea of becoming attached to it or letting it go. Guts is struggling with wanting vengeance or just being with and taking care of Casca. Just like Griffith once was forgetting his dream for Guts. They're supposed to be showing the parallels between the two.
You, the reader are supposed to also be going through that same struggle, do you want guts to find peace? Or do you want him to get revenge?
And naturally, the main reason i believe is that all of this is building up for some massive horrible event again.
Something could happen in which guts spirals into madness and does something tragic. Or Griffith fucks everything up once again.
My prediction is that Casca will refuse her memory, or if she gets it back the result wont be favorable, Guts then solidifies his path for revenge and goes as far as maybe even sacrificing his new crew, including Casca, to transcend the physical world so he can actually kill Griffith.

There's no way this isn't building up to yet another tragedy, the struggle is no where near over, it may even only just really be beginning. Muria is just establishing the things you will all become attached to, just to lose them, again.
>>
>>145693862
Isn't it obvious? He's getting bored of Berserk so he's changing the tone to revitalize it for himself so he doesn't completely burn out on it.
>>
>>145696564
I can see him activating the behelith, but he won't sacrifice anyone, fact is that the moment he will the god's hand will appear and may fuck up the island.
That'd be a good tragedy and you won't have Guts character fucked up
>>
>>145696928
It takes some insanely miserable thing happening to you to activate the behelit, something that crumbles you as a person.

So what would have to happen to guts for him to break?
>>
>>145696928
>>145697142
Another thing, we forget about Skull Knight and his usual interference in moments like these. And he's the one who foreshadows that Casca might not want her memory back.
>>
>>145697142
Caska refusing her memory
Caska not surviving the ritual
Caska blaming him for everything that happened
Caska basically.
>>
>>145697251
And Casca is the very thing that is sustaining Guts' humanity. You don't think that in that event he'll say fuck all and just try to destroy Griffith? In which a Behelit would be very useful for.

But you're right in that I believe somehow sacrificing might be avoided due to some Skull Knight fuckery.
>>
>>145697447
He says from chapter one that he'll stay human no matter what, you can't throw away 30 years of character like that, I can see him becoming one with the berserk but not becoming an apostole
>>
>>145697447
>>145697542
Also by becoming an apostole he would be under Griffith's power automatically
>>
>>145697600
Did you forget about Ganishka?
>>
>>145697675
No, but he was born before Femto, I can see why he wouldn't accept him as a ruler or be influenced by him.

Also what if Caska activates the Behelit and Guts will be forced to kill her?
>>
>Nobody has tried to rape Schierke yet

What happened to my Berserk......
>>
>>145697794
So was Zodd and every apostle at the eclipse.

I can see Casca being destined to a Behelit but refusing it (something we never heard of happening) or somehow leaving Guts for Griffith.
>>
>>145694329
>>145694646
>>145694770
>>145695060

What the hell is going on, /a/. I haven't heard intelligent conversation on this board in what feels like months. Do I need to go check the color of the moon?
>>
>>145697995
Berserk threads are always like this.
>>
>>145697896
A tentacle of the sea god. Just one tho.
>>145697939
Whops. Caska with the behelith seems very possible, mainly cause many times Guts was told that he may be just a carrier, maybe she'll refuse, maybe it ll be eaten while active by Skully, I don't know, but it wont be used.
her going back to Griffith makes no sense
>>
>>145693862
He's lost the hunger. He is the George RR Martin of the manga industry.
>>
>>145697995
Well truth be told I never ever browsed /a/ before.

I was never big on anime in general and hate weebs/otakus and anime art and animation for the most part.
Then I discovered Berserk, like a couple of weeks ago (Friend was watching the new Anime).
So he explained that it had an original Anime and movies.
I Binge watch the 25 episode anime, was in love and absolutely blown away by the left turn that was the last 3 episodes.
Then I saw the movies, and it had extra details (while leaving out A TON more).
I could not get enough, I wanted more Guts, more Griffith, more Casca, just more Berserk and decided to binge read the entirety of the manga up to the very latest chapter. Did that in like a week and a half. Still hungry for more Berserk so all I have is the new Anime and my own thoughts and pondering.
I was so hungry for more Berserk I decided to browse this section to see if you guys also liked it and low and behold you guys love it. I basically go into every Berserk thread I can now.

I feel like that makes me cancer but I don't care, I fucking love this magnificent work of art and I will never get enough.
>>
>>145698225
>Griffith makes no sense
He's reborn from the demon baby and the egg shaped apostle thing which is tied to Guts and Casca.
It made Griffith want to protect Casca.
It made Casca attract to Griffith when she saw him again (at least that's what I hope it was) despite being all retarded.
Before the eclipse she already had refused to abandon him, even in his crippled state because of how incredibly attached she is to him. Many subconscious and emotional mechanisms seem to make Casca long for Griffith no matter what. The demon baby thing enhancing all of that.
>>
>>145698347
Then lurk
>>
>>145698818
I'll pass, from what I've seen this place is mostly cute girl anime weeb shit.
Scrolling through this place makes me sick for the most part.
>>
Most of the god hands are frauds, the only one that obviously has an endgame is Void, question is, is Guts related to it or is it just against Skully and he just got mixed into it? like what if Guts father is an apostole or something like that and his odd birth was planned to have an individual that could change fate, even if by little.
Personally I'd prefer him to be just a random unlucky asshole, a bug in fate rather than DESTINY PLOT.
While I was at the beginning I remember thinking that the dragonslayer was big just for the sake of design or that it was a magical item of some sort, then you see how Guts always trained with swords larger than him and you see him progressing to the dragonslayer, I liked him being a, somewhat, normal human, I'd hate to see a revelation where he is an half demon or an experiment or something else
>>
Sorry to go off topic but I don't wanna make a whole new thread for it.

I am tempted to read that omitted chapter of the Manga. Where Griffith talks to god or something.
If what Muria said is true about it revealing too much, would It really soil the the rest of Berserk to read it? It sounds like it covers some really deep shit and knowing that is just giving me this itch.
But if you'll confirm it's actually something substantial enough that It'd be best to avoid reading then I'll hold off.
My desire for more Berserk is insatiable.
>>
>>145698225
>>145697939
Oh wow I never even considered Casca being the one who would use the Behelit. It's a possible outcome for sure, but who knows. There are so many ways the story could go with regards to Casca at this point
>>
>>145693862
Puck was the only thing keeping Guts Sane after the eclipse

if you remember, he was kinda getting crazy before he met puck
>>
>>145699175
Really?
It was the very first thing I thought, as a joke.
Then as the story went on I saw it more and more as a possibility.
>>
>>145699175
I thought those marked with the Brand couldn't make sacrifices/use the Behelit?
Though I think I remember Slan tell Guts he could use it.
>>
>>145699020
it really doesnt reveal much of importance
>>
>>145696564
I don't see Guts ever being the type to sacrifice someone. He might be tempted to after Casca gets her mind back, but he'll slay one of the Godhand the moment that Behelit activates. The moment one of them dies and reverts back into a human is the moment the four remaining will take him seriously.
>>
>>145698517
If she gains her memory back and she goes back to him it's purely on a maternal instinct and probably to trigger the event that'll open a window for Guts to kill him. remember how she was about to get raped when Griffith found her? He became that man in the end, and mainly to prove that he posses her and to say "fuck you" to Guts.
Griffith literally took their lives, her siding with him is insanity
>>
>>145697675
Ganishka was still Griffith's bitch. Even him attempting to defy Griffith was in the plan.
>>
>>145698957
Skully has dibs on him.
>>
>>145696564
I doubt the behelit would be used to sacrifice rather is used as a quick way to attack the godhand as an alternative to hunting then down separately.
>>
>>145698906
I would honestly try to crossboard this place. I spend most my time in /m/, /k/ or /diy/ and i just chime in when i want.
If you can't filter that kind of shit out then spending time in any one board gets annoying.

I mean i'm all for cute girls but its honestly the bulk of what i see now. So i can completely understand.
>>
>>145699353
Guts already choked Casca and attempted to rape her. He may be able to regain himself in hindsight but this proves that Guts is capable of doing drastic things on impulse, in the immediate.
>>145699386
>is insanity
Which is precisely what she is right now. She may refuse her memory, and go back to him out of that maternal instinct, or she can gain her memory back and side with him out of some batshit coping mechanism. Casca was not one to make the most rational decisions when emotional overwhelmed.
>>145699420
It still proved that an apostle is able to say fuck you to Griffith. And he may not be the only one, I believe Zodd and other apostles will begin to defy Griffith. Guts also already proved he can defy fate, even if it's all a part of the "plan" in the big picture.
Causality and bla bla bla.
>>145699650
True but their may be a catch to things. When you are the one called to make the sacrifice if you go on to try and attack the God hand, it might be registered as you refusing the ritual. Or some other shenanigan. That's probably why Skull Knight waits for others to use it, the window is still open in that moment but only so long as the person has yet to choose, and if he does, that the sacrifice is still ongoing.
>>145699717
It's depressing. I would hope to come here and discover other hidden gems like Berserk. I have to now assume that there simply isn't anything like it out there, or that anime fans are miserable scum that perpetuate most of this garbage.
Unfortunately, it feels like both are true.
>>
>>145693862
Comic relief makes the edgy stuff painful, without comedy the darkness becomes the joke instead. Wolfguy, for instance.
>>
>>145700388
Well put.
>>
>>145700191
>It still proved that an apostle is able to say fuck you to Griffith.
You can resist but it's not really helpful to develop an instinct to bending over and letting him fuck you in the ass similar to the instinct of eating and fleeing. You can choose not to act on them but they'll weigh on you.
>>
>>145694329
Pasta?
>>
>>145696720
but another party wipe seems almost certain at this point
>>
>>145699020
it seems to take place just after or before Griffith transforms into Femto
>>
>>145697447
So what if Guts actually dies?
>>
Anyone else felt like the last episode of Berserk 2016 actually had a glimmer of hope? They managed to make Guts seem really heavy when he was sprinting to Casca, and the final turn-around was pretty darn well-done.
>>
>>145704424
it did but just barely

>>145704424
Each episode seems to be marginally better than the last. We started with complete shit and are now hovering around mediocre. Hopefully we'll get to at least "Okay" by the time the Mozgus fight starts.
>>
>>145704424
This one and 5 were tolerable. Fuck the rest of the episodes though.
>>
>>145705196
>NOTHING WILL BE WONG
every time
>>
>>145702818
I dunno, it was actually shocking the first time, but if we get another one I think it'd be kinda lame. Also, I really don't understand why people think this is just gonna end with Guts giving in to revenge when the series has kinda been beating us over the head with the idea that revenge is not the answer.
>>
>>145705991
Yea but the point is that Guts is struggling with that.
He might be consumed with rage and hatred, ignoring that wisdom. Some pretty much hope that's what happens because it means they get to see a gruesome fight with Griffith.

I just want Guts to be happy. I wanna see him crying tears of joy when Casca regains her memory and still loves/wants to be with Guts. I wanna see him give his new friends a group hug and tells them he loves them.

But god knows he wont have it that easy.

didn't Miura say that berserk was gonna have a bittersweet conclusion?

The only way I see this shit ending is that Guts is gonna die defending his newfound family after casca recovers

>I read dark and edgy manga, to reflect how mature I am.

I just realized that the whole vid was slowed down to fit the audio
>>
>>145706740
Yes he did say he wanted to give it a happy ending. Or that he couldn't give it a grim ending, everyone has suffered enough.

As long Guts is happy is all i care about. When I was reading through, there were certain moments where I would just wish Guts just fell in love with Lady Farnese instead and moved on with her. That way he can be happy, and even lady Farnese would be happier with her new meaning of being a good husband to the black swordsman. I was getting desperate to see guts fucking smile for once. And I also felt bad for Farnese and everything she went through, plus having the hots for Guts but knowing she could never replace Casca.
I don't know how most of you responded to Guts becoming all soft but it was one of the better parts of the later arcs. Genuinely made me feel good to see Guts become more human. Any time he would compliment Farnese or Schierke it would put a smirk on my face.
>>
>>145707109
If tonal whiplash bothers you then you must be some edgy kid
>>
>>145699175
Casca using the behelit is nigh-impossible if she is sane when she uses it. Neither she nor Guts can sacrifice each other if they use it, while Casca doesn't really have anyone else she loves other than Farnese in her current state.
>>
>>145708294
>Neither she nor Guts can sacrifice each other if they use it
And why not?
The entire point of the Behelit is that it activates at the very moment in which you WOULD sacrifice someone you love as much as Casca loves Guts and vice versa.
>>
>>145693862
As long as it ends with Guts and Schierke travelling alone I'm all good.
Just read the chapter when Griffith makes Pope wet for him with his vision
Seriously, fuck that Isidumbass.
>>
>>145708484

Not him, but you can't sacrifice a sacrifice. Also, we can't be sure if Casca will care about anyone else, other than Guts after she regains her memory.

The only people she can sacrifice are the Band of the Hawk and... oh wait, its too late, its too late!
>>
>>145697995
Berserk fans are naturally patrician as fuck.

They're the elite of the elite of anime fans.

>Unfortunately, it feels like both are true.
You're exaggerating. The fact that you talk about high cinema doesn't mean you can't talk about super hero flicks from time to time.

There are plenty of amazing anime and manga out there.
>>
>>145700407
>>145700388
The Golden Age didn't have this degree of comic relief. When it was there it was subtle, like the characters being witty or cracking a joke. Not them turning chibi and doing absurd, wacky shit.
