These episodes were the introduction of Team Rocket as a major presence in Unova.
These episodes were detailing a major conflict where an entire city got fucked up over the fighting between the two groups.
Team Plasma literally did a flyby shooting of a Team Rocket party with a Helicopter.

You have to also remember that the Japanese also doubled down on what they felt was appropriate to be shown afterwards, so they had no chance of restarting the arc they wanted to do for a long long time.

The show had both it's antagonist groups dropped and at the point in production they were in they couldn't MAKE new episodes to reintroduce them, because they'd lost 2 episodes of work already.

Gen V have really good single-player campaigns, though only the sequels have the strong post-game content. The new pokemon were a tad divisive, but they were promoted well since the first set only has them (no returners until post-game).

Gen VI is one of the weakest generations, though it has a number of great fixes for the series as a whole. The games are boring. That said, it is now hilariously easy to catch them all, since all pokemon are in the Gen VI games. The games hand out EXP like Japanese companies hand out tissue packs, so it's easy to catch and train everything that pops up per route to fill out the dex.

Personally, I feel like the games peaked at Platinum and HG/SS.
