Not really Japan is slow to accept the changes happening around them, and doesn't like even acknowledging the problem in the first place. Problematic things aren't worth fixing, but ignoring.


The trend of sukeban/yankee characters continued in dramas until the early 00s, but a lackluster GTO revamp kind of put an end to it, final nail in the coffin sort of deal. People's tastes just changed and a new generation of mangaka have no interest, so it just naturally died away. That style is more like cosplay than a legitimate form of expression/character now.
