This is a typical story and character building for VNs. The writers try to make you care for the characters by placing them in a lot of every day situations. If you look for engaging plot, oops, too bad, read 15 hours of going shopping, to an amusement park, doing homework, wacky shenanigans during lunch breaks at school and all the mundane shit you don't care about. Re Zero is probably fantastic however, a lot of the typical animu tropes and harem shit waters it down.
Time fuckery done right goes to Steins;Gate and 999 up to VLR.
Re Zero shines more over character development and character relations. Subaru's freak outs can be pretty bone chilling and how he handles restarting all over felt more moving than Okabe though, it is still great. I heard Steins;Gate 0 is extremely good though.

From my own standpoint, it is essentially devaluing yourself if you decide to justify the act of suicide to get what you want. That is the act of actually accepting avoiding consequence. You should never justify throwing away your life if you were to 'use' return by death. Return by death is something that acts as giving another life to start. Not like a time loop. Treat each life as if it were the last. Value your life and go far as you can achieve with the life you were given. Essentially, the consequence of you having failed in your other life is guilty by your failure (arc 4 is essentially this, Subaru has to live with the scary thought of the continuation of after his deaths). People believe that Subaru should be like Keiji or believe that Re:Zero is trying to be AYNIK when essentially, it is not time, it is life that makes the series. And people don't realize that Subaru values his life. Subaru values wanting to exist. Even when he offed himself, he still hesitated because he valued his life. He wants to feel like he matters to other people. That's why alot of time when he was acting depressed, he felt he was worthless from others (episode 7 and 18). His emotions and goals are not bipolar as they revolve around him wanting to feel like he matters. He gains that through others when he wants to be expected or feels like he matters to others. He gives up because it is easy as he does not feel anyone cares, acknowledges or expect anything from him. He values his life and values it further with his goal to become a hero for others with the life he has. Tension is within life. And wanting to see what Subaru can do with his new life with what he can is what interests me in this series.

In the end it's all up to one's opinion.
Personally I feel like this story is inconsistent and the plot is left half-baked. There is an interesting concept behind the whole work but in my opinion it never took advantage of the potential it could have had, and the elements were never used in the right way.
In short, it feels wrong watching it, from the storytelling point of view, it's an attractive concept but just like a jelly once you get close to it and observe it, it trembles all over.
In every arc, in every episode I do feel that there's something off, that shouldn't be there, or that it did lack something.

I do enjoy it, and I will watch it til the end I won't lie to you (besides I've already watched 18 entire eps of it so I might as well just see it through and finish it), but it's one of those works that, and I repeat again PERSONALLY, wouldn't watch again.

Maybe I should play the VN and see it from a different perspective.

Not going to lie, I didn't like Re:Zero at first. Tried to watch it on 5 seperate occasions and I would either fall asleep or be bored to death. But last week I binged watch the whole thing and liked it a lot. Glad I took the bait of the circlejerk.
