In Alderamin the problem is exacerbated by the fact that the people Ikta opposes are ignorant, bigoted and outright evil to make him look cooler when he effortlessly beatd them while delivering some witty one liner.

An intelligent antagonist to actually challenge him would make wonders for the story and characters.

I think we are expecting too much from a thing of LN origin.
I do wish it was better, sure.
I still like it though.
