The internet used to be a sort of fantasy playground where there were no rules and no inhibitions, which is why you could get the "lol so random" jokes which occasionally produced enduring memes. Politics and the economy are literally everywhere now. In a sense, /a/ and /b/ can't escape /pol/, just like how the mainstream media and paid shills are all over sites like reddit.
