CGI is fine as long as it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

CGI has been around since computers, anon. Like what the fuck do you expect? Before that, they used illusionary effects.

can you name me literally 1 anime that does this and then provide visual (vĭzh′o͞o-əl) proof?

Mob Psycho just used CGI amazingly well in its latest episode.
>>
>>145491179
Sadly it does every time, even in Kizu which has supposed to have budget.
>>
>>145491365
There was CGI there?
I guess the fact that I didn't notice means that they did a good job.
Anyway, OP, CGI is good as long as it's done well. It's the same with CGI in any movie really, you only notice the shit CGI and don't notice the good.

No, it still looks awful and for some reason looks like it's moving totally unfluidly. If you're going to go cg you should animate it at 30 or 60 fps, not 24

Untrue. It's been more than 10 years since the Incredibles and it's still watchable. The problem is that anime CG isn't even on par with fucking Toy Story.
>>
>>145493425
It's almost like an episode's worth of Toy Story cost more than a full two-cour anime.

From an artistic this show was amazing. Too bad their skits are worse than a stand up German comedian on a bar
>>
>>145493500
Exactly my point. Anime will never be ready for CG because good looking CG costs money. You can hide money deficiencies in 2D with good direction and talented animators. Cheap CG will always look garbage due to textures and framerate.

Watched ex-driver recently and the hand drawn cars were sexy as fuck. The car chases definitely suffered though; there's some weird animation issues when the cars have to actually move.

literally this.

>>
>>145496958
This is the wrong proportion for Samus. A muscular butt will not have as much of a curve to it that is in perfect rounded alignment with the leg muscle. Also it will be more oval in shape compared to circular. There are also tell-tale signs on the legs that indicate more developed muscles rather than fat. Look up female bodybuilders on google image and you'll see an extreme version of the muscular type of leg, while that girl and chicks in Playboy images don't really have well developed leg muscles. Obviously this is the artist going for sexualization over what a female bounty hunter would probably be like though. Actually in Super Metroid when Samus removes her suit her legs look far more like that of a muscular woman than in ZM, although its from the front rather than the back.
>>
>>145497217
That's only needed for Hollywood due to motion blur. Anime doesn't need the false realism added by 24fps since it isn't realistic at all anyway

>>
>>145490688
Why not? Cars and buildings require solid construction which makes sense for CGI and crowd animation is also more convenient especially when you can reuse them for other shots. Doing them in 2D will take up more time.
>>
>>145497676
Yeah, if you need to resort to logic to prove your argument, it means you obviously don't care about it and are just trying to be a smartass.

I guess it was "Blue Submarine N.6", but I am not sure.
>>
>>145497902
Why do logicians not want you to use past trends to try to predict future trends? Just because it isn't ALWAYS the case that past trends continue? Sure but there's at least a good likelihood trends continue, depending on how gradual or extreme the trend.
>>
>>145497932

False, 2D looks better than cheap 3D fundamentally.

>>145498364
Nowhere in my posts does it reflect that I prefer 3D over 2D, I am even a fan of what some might call "forced animation", I was merely pointing out your bias for disliking 3D because all the examples of it you've encountered thus far have been of poor quality, even so far as to imply if one likes 3D then one cannot enjoy 2D as if for some reason one would not be able to enjoy both.
>>
>>145496374

Fallacy of induction.

1-2-4-X

based on the three data points, you have to deduce what X will be.

for example it can be 1+Y, with Y being uneven numbers plus zero (0-1-3-5), meaning x could be 6

or 2^Y with Y being (0-1-2-3) meaning x could be 8

it means that without complete information of a system, predictions can and will be wrong.
>>
>>145498621
see >>145497997
Predicting you will not roll a 4 is a statement with pretty useful predictive power at 99/100. Sure, we know it isn't necessarily always going to be true but but as "I think this will tend to be true" it's a good predictor. At some point CG will not look horrific to future generations, but I'm reasonably sure that point is not yet here.
>>
>>145499088
Not all encounters I have had with it have been of poor quality, but I have preferred 2D in all cases to those 3D cases, no matter the quality. This is what it means to prefer 2D over 3D. Do...you?

Furthermore I did not say you cannot enjoy 2D but I did indicate that you are settling for 2D because high budget 3D, which you said you would prefer over average 2D, is not available.
>>
>>145498071
So you think Dragon Ball Super looks better than Disney movies?
>>
>>145499129

That bring us to the Argument from fallacy fallacy.

Just because an argument contains a fallacy, it doesn't necessarily imply the conclusion is false.
>>
>>145499352
But people will shut down any arguments that contain a fallacy by saying "that's fallacious" without regard for the potential predictive power of the argument or the likelihood it may be right despite containing fallacious reasoning.

>>145499222
>but I did indicate that you are settling for 2D because high budget 3D, which you said you would prefer over average 2D, is not available.
Seems like you missed my entire point, I was only stating that proper 3D would look better than average 2D, not that I'd prefer shows to be all 3D rather than 2D.
>>
>>145499684
Then aren't you basically saying you want some shows that don't look as good to you as they could if they were 3D? Unless you desire shows to only be either high quality 2D or "proper" 3D but we know that will never happen.

Also, proper 3D existing would lead to 99% of shows becoming 3D due to the way humans jump on bandwagons and prefer the easier, cheaper way. We must actively work to prevent this.
>>
>>145499674
Any storyboarder/director with a brain wouldn't allow such a shot to even exist.

Also it'd look horrible in 3D too since you'd have repeated models. There's simply no way to do a shot like that acceptably. You use illusion and inference to imply large crowds--you don't actually draw them/model them
>>
>>145499279
>;)

Just get out.
>>
>>145500091
Do you understand what emoticons are supposed to imply? That one simply had to follow his post since he--or you if you are the same poster--thought he could trick me by choosing a 2D anime that looked like shit and comparing it to a high budget 3D movie. But I have already thought out my position and examined by beliefs. The most barren, poorly drawn 2D a studio would dare release still feels better to me than the cold, sterile embrace of empty 3D models.

If you want to blame someone for summoning that emoticon, blame him, or blame yourself if they are one in the same. For thinking someone who said he prefers 2D would change his mind.
>>
>>145490688
Anytime you have a lot of camera motion, the inbetweeners will fuck it up. CGI results in more continuity of shot composition than the alternatives.

Vehicles are blocky and move predictably. They tend to move fast enough that the camera has to keep up with them.

Usually with a buildings or a crowd you want to show off the scale of the object relative to the subject. The way to do this is with sweeping camera motions, which are easier in CGI.
>>
>>145502252
Why does Sidonia look so choppy?
>>
>>145502385
There's an "uncanny valley" in the midrange where models tend to underperform. Really pulled back, they're fine. Up tight, they're fine. Inbetween, shit looks weird.

Models of characters look good head on and at 3/4 and in profile, but they end up weird as the camera moves. This is mostly attributable to the contrast between CGI lighting and the kind of shading used to convey weight when drawing by hand.

Motion of people is more complex than motion of vehicles. We believe it when the robots swing the lance and when that dickfaced gauna squirms, but you can't have the dudes arms cheat and go noodly the way you expect from a hand drawn model.
>>
>>145502745

He wasn't trying to trick you, first off - he made an obvious and straightforward counterexample/reductio ad absurdum in response to your equally straightforward statement that you had offered without any prompting from him. Regardless, a non-emoticon response in that situation, to capture your examining of your position and refusal to move, could be "The 3D ones, in fact, yes" or something similar, or "What did I just say," "Is Dragon Ball Super 2D? And are 3D Disney movies 3D? Then figure it out yourself," or something similar to those, or any range of reaction images, among other possible responses. And even if there weren't all these other options, "I can't think of a way to express myself other than cancerous emoticons" is still not a fucking excuse any more than "I can't think of a way to say what I want here other than using LOL/making a Bane joke/whatever!" would be a valid reason to use any of those.
