>Tournament arcs
Why? At this point every shonen has a tournament arc, even if it's retarded and downright unfitting. Is this one of those "Dragonball did it so now everyone must do it" memes?
Because they're usually 1v1 which allows characters to develop or show off new abilities.

>not liking tournament arcs
Nigga please, they're engaging when done right, especially when they build up to the big fight.
It allows a manga to show a bunch of new characters in a short amount of time.
The readers will inevitably latch onto a character shown and since the goal of all weekly shounens is to top the weekly rankings it sorta works out.

>watching Asterisk
That's your problem.

They are fun.

As someone who unironically watches Yugioh, fuck tournament arcs.

I don't mind tournament arcs, but I automatically despise them when they are either interrupted for some external issue or they change rules midway.

They're fun when done well. They introduce new characters and allow them to showcase their powers against the main cast's while also highlighting the potential strength of others. Feuds emerge, bonds are forged and once it's all over that's when shit gets real.

it's a nice way to make minor character more relevant and show their strenghts. Also, it's nice to see other sides of the characters, the competitive in this case.
