Has this anime aged poorly for what it is or do you still find

It's still pretty good. I just downloaded the 1080 BD version and i'll rewatch it again this weekend.

Its still one of my favorite anime. You just need to watch a lot of anime to fully appreciate it.

Well if you compared to the "4 girls doing cute things" of these days, Lucky start doesnt have anything to stand out, usually these series have some theme or gimmick with them, usually related to a club or certain activity, and the cast tend to more generic. Lucky start is for me one of the first SOL of these type I saw, and usually used as my basis when comparing modern ones.

Art style looks like ass compared to today's standard, nobody likes chibi anymore.
Not to mention this anime itself is kind of outdated. It's kind of a time piece for the mid-2000's, a lot of the material in this show is about things that were relevant to otaku at that time. I can't really imagine anyone going into this show now the same way I got into this show when it was new.
Context matters a lot with Lucky Star

I don't know how to describe its charm other than that I enjoyed it because I was caught up in the hype when it aired. Same with things like Guilty Crown really; no way in fucking hell i would have enjoyed either if i had watched them years later alone. It was so much fun getting into pissing matches between this and Gurren Lagann and just KagamixKonata shipping.

It will only hold up to oldfags or people who watch late 90's to late 10's anime. Newshits like Reddit: Zero or LoveLive won't really get much of the references and jokes.

What really draw me into Lucky Star was the top tier banter between the girls, especially Kagami and Konata. No anime has been able to really replicate that enjoyment for me. Joshiraku came very close though.

Very few (if any) shows from that same time looked anything like it.

I agree, I loved Lucky Star and I don't think any SOL has come close to it so far. From K-ON onwards any SOL with cute girls doing cute things has just been an unrelenting exercise in trying to get you to like the girls by making them as faux 'cute' as possible so you'll buy merchandise, everything is too perfect and idealized and the comedy always falls flat.

Lucky Star was just its own thing - the characters were individuals, they weren't perfect and didn't try to appeal to the viewer in any way, they felt very real and natural as a result. The comedy was genuinely great and the parodies were top-knotch.

I feel like from the over-the-top super deformed art-style to the constant "BUY HARUHI DVDS" subliminal advertising Lucky Star is/was just one big ironic mockery of anime, back when KyoAni actually had a sense of humor.

Nowadays Lucky Star is a litmus test of how much of an anime fan someone really is. It's easy to get into flavor of the month SOLs knowing that there's actively merchandise being made of the characters and that you can make lots of threads on /a/ about how fun things are fun, but if you're 10 minutes into the choco cornet conversation and falling asleep, your powerlevel just isn't high enough. Cult classic for hardcore fans.

You know you might be onto something. Commercially the Choco cornet scene as the very first episode is kind of a flop but as a pleb filter its pretty good.

I still enjoy it as well. I like it a bit more now though since back when I watched it in '09 I was only just getting into anime so I didn't get a solid amount of the jokes :P
