Bert said this in a previous chapter, they aren't really bad, they didn't really do anything wrong, but they still have to die for whatever reason.

If presented with the issue that they're 1.) encaged and 2.) have to die because a titan race decided that it should be so, then obviously, what little they have left of humanity, will be thrown away when they have one of the ones threatening their existence within their reach.

Especially coupled with the fact that they lost so many loved ones because of a "mission" they couldn't understand, and never even had an explanation to.

And I don't think they were entirely indifferent towards Bert's death. They were evidently looking on in hesitation od what to do, the CT may be a monster, but Bert is just a human, and that human is screaming in agony and just looking really helpless and pathetic. You can think that they're crying because of the argument they just had and them still being in shock over what just happened to Armin, but it's also evident that their tears won't stop pouring, and I think maybe some of those tears were dedicated to Bert, the child warrior.

To put it simply; it's way too easy to label x side as evil, and y side as good, they're all pretty much in grey areas much I think the human side gets more of an excuse because, as said above, they're victims of their own ignorance (thanks to the Reiss' brainwashing)

If Isayama was a more capable writer he could have used LMs relation to bring them closer so that Mikasa's character didn't only revolve around EAr. I don't see the point of them both being Ackerman's if he wasn't going to use that for Mikasa's development. If Isayama had no intention of making the Ackerman shit relevant beyond the source of their power he could've just said she inherited her powers from her mother's side. I don't understand how Isayama misses so many obvious opportunities to let characters grow.

Imagine if she knew her and Levi were the last remaining Ackerman's and they actually formed a friendship because of that before this serumbowl went down.
