Orihime is one of those characters that don't exist outside being in love with the MC, whereas Rukia actually has a life outside Ichigo. Kubo seems to like Orihime just fine so I don't think he'd screw her over in the end.

Rukia can even remain single and she'd lose nothing from it. Orihime has always been token love interest.

I honestly believe this manga would've needed at least one more arc to actually deal with the fucking romantic subplots. That is why shipping is stupid. It's shounen and it's just a way to attract readers, it's a natural letdown at the end.

She had a character arc of learning to be independent. The conclusion should've been Ichigo making a move on Orihime and she turning him down lovingly because she grew up and realized that she no longer needs the hero archetype to protect her. That basically was her character arc.

Kubo already done similar things, like for example when Rukia decided to stay in SS after she was rescued, and Ichigo instantly understood and they were both happy about it.

So he's capable of good writing.

I left out the way that would've led there from the explanation, obviously. I would've written this manga completely differently. Well, not entirely, for example, I would've had Yhwach win against the RG too, but would've concluded the arc with the defeat of SS and started a smaller finishing arc where they regroup and unite against him. Conclusion would've been the same basically, with Aizen using his illusion powers to make himself look like Ichigo. i had that idea for over a year and it seems like Kubo and I were on the same page there. But I can't help but feel that he didn't give this arc his best. At the beginning he did, because he took a break before it. It was visible. He should've taken another one. Kubo seems like the type who needs the wind-up time.

There's even a plot hole where Kirenji says it makes sense the Soul King took interest in Ichigo.

Anon, he spent the whole last arc setting up Ichigo-Orihime and Renji-Rukia respectively. Ishida was shoved aside as the rival of Ichigo while Renji became his bestest friend in the world who drained his rain and made him feel better. Ichigo would come out as a dick if he cucked Renji, while Ishida is more of his rival (friend, but cast in this light). Likewise Ulquiorra and whoever stood on his way of Orihime. Orihime's 'abduction' was sexualized by the enemies while Rukia was highly platonic, except for the Renji part which Ichigo helped them to overcome their issues.

The Soul King had a will. He woke up and according to Yhwach saw the future. He also mentioned that Mimihagi siding with the Shinigami is proof that his will doesn't reside in the arm anymore. Even after Yhwach absorbed him, the Soul King still had some autonomy that Yhwach couldn't control. Aizen had most likely two reason for his hatred. The first one is that he doesn't want to be ruled by that thing. The second is, that he most likely realized that the Soul King may not be a nice guy.
