Yeah, that's one of my biggest concerns with the matter. She's being pressured by OTHERS into believing that she's in love with him, and is becoming conflicted because of that continuous reinforcement. Whether or not she actually does is still up for debate. She clearly admires him to some regard early on, in part because of their early friendship and Deku's taking to HER, but also because he'd gone out of his way to assumedly fail the entrance exam in order to save her from something everyone else turned tail from, and that itself deserves admiration. But it started as no more than that - friendship and thankful admiration. And then Sparkleboy had to butt in and cause things to become conflicted. Had the repeated suggestions not happened until later, I doubt she would be struggling with it as much as she is now - probably still embarrassed, but not full on denial. BUT we've been dealt a hand, so now all we can do is see how it pans out.

My problem with Ochako has nothing to do with her crush on Deku. Hori just doesn't fucking know how to properly use her powers. Her two recent battles were resolved without her using her quirks and that's fucking lazy. The CQC shit is just a clutch Hori introduced because he can't think of ways to actually make her fight with her quirk. Hell, if Ochako had used her quirk on Himiko when she had her pinned on the ground she would have won that fight. Ochako's greatest feats are all at the beginning of the manga: making loads of robots float, using the column to throw stones at Iida, the meteor shower she used on Bakugou. Hori is being so goddamn lazy with her abilities lately when they're so goddamn versatile. The difference is that Uraraka is actually endearing and entertaining, even if she doesn't have as much "depth" or whatever as the other main characters.

Same goes for all the other side characters. Yeah a lot of them might not get a lot of focus or development, but they're all still well-written enough that they still come across as fully-realised people in their interactions with other characters. They all feel like they could carry their own series and it would be just as good as this one.

No anon. My point the whole time has been that the characters' genders aren't that big of a decision-maker on how screentime is distributed.

Deku is the MC, so obviously he has top priority. Todo and Kacchan are his rivals, the former being the rival with a hard past and the latter being the childhood friend; of course THEY have a lot of screentime.

Compare to Iida and Ochako: Iida had his arc because his hero bro got crippled, but has been relatively irrelevant otherwise. Ochako is a hick with no hero connections or famous relatives; her development can't use her past as a crush.

Toko+Frog and Jacks+Sadrock made sense for all characters involved to succeed. Gender had nothing to do with it.

Aizawa is the homeroom teacher, so he's relevant. Midnight isn't, so she obviously doesn't get much screen time.

Mt. Lady and Kamui are equally relevant as side heroes. Kamui bound baddies; Mt. Lady rekt a building with a car.

The only inequality here is the ratio of male-to-female characters and typical shonen conventions. Everything else is fine.

No objections there. But no, manga Hinata during the Chunnin exam arc was a good supporting character. She had a personality, a backstory that explained said personality, and her own ambitions besides getting the MC's dick. Instead she got swept to the wayside like nearly other non-main character, partly because Kishi was obviously very uncomfortable writing romance.

It's not just romance. He stated multiple times about how terrible he is upon writing female characters in general. Sakura is a prime example as her concept art Kishimoto pretty much stated she was intended to be annoying and in the way, a somewhat personification of how he thinks of girls.

In an instance it made me worried since Hori stated he was going to pair Deku and Ochako in a lot of future moments, but overall I do agree her development has been nicely paced. Her whole infatuation with Deku didn't even 'fully' appear until this chapter. Even so, it's still a nice place to appear, seeing how right now it's just a teenager crush and Deku is pulling off all these amazing feats.

Overall, Hori's strongpoint of just balancing age with maturity, which other shonen(and some seinen) lack. Most of the students feel like they could be actual teenagers if it wasn't for their overblown anime personalities.

That's essentially the reason why I love Boku no Hero. Most shonen after several chapters just keep their reactions to a bland one retaining to their stereotype. And did you not pay attention to the manga? Todoroki "threw the match" because his daddy issues didn't go away instantly. He wasn't going to be completely on board with using his fire willy nilly just because Deku played psychologist. That's not how it works.

Todoroki aside, Bakugou is stronger than everyone in class. He ranked first in the pre-U.A. exam. He ranked below only Momo and Todoroki in the initial evaluation (and he beat Crow who beat Momo).
