With the Olympics around the corner, what are some good sports anime to watch?
My personal favorite is Ping Pong the Animation.

Free
Haikyuu
Ace of the Diamond
Yowamushi Pedal
Chihayafuru (?)
Battery (not really about baseball though)
Hajime no Ippo
>>
I can't even think of another good sport anime, hell, I can't even think about another anime that is as good as Ping Pong either.

Could always watch Hajjime no Ippo and Slam Dunk I guess.

>That last episode
There's something almost magical about it.
It's like there's no stress. No tension. It's just everyone having a good time, and it's very feel good.

Man, if Free wasn't so fucking gay, I'd show it to my dad. He was a swimmer back in the day and I'm sure he'd appreciate the detailed animation in the race episodes.

Ace of Diamond is good.

Ping Pong is like the best I can think of of we're ignoring typical shonen mumbo jumbo. There's ancient shit like Joe and Aim for the Ace but I've never seen em cause frankly Dezaki does fucking nothing for me. If sports-likes count then Eupho is A++

Ping Pong is ultimately a story about the characters more than the sport of ping ponging, helps it set itself quite apart. Not that i disgree with your post
>>

I hear this shit a lot but do you think that's really what separates it from the rest of the pack? To take another contemporary example, Haikyuu is absolutely more about the characters than it is volleyball itself. Yeah, cool he learned a new serve or whatever but the underlying point is still character growth, right? I definitely don't deny that Ping Pong is atypical though.

I think Haikyuu works for a lot of the reason Slam Dunk did, in that it makes you care about the game because you want to see the character succeed.

While Haikyuu doesn't dwelve too much on the intricacies of the sport, it uses it as a plot device really well. Which is what i think separates the really good sports manga to stuff like Kurobas

Touch and Cross Game are also very good sports shows

Are they even going to go through with the olympics? For what purpose? The air is poisonous and the water is second only to india in the shit department. Not to mention the daily shootings all over the place.
>>
>>145116545
I think what sets Ping Pong apart is the really tight and excellent writing. Definitely one of the most well-written anime I've seen, up there with shows like Spice & Wolf or Uchouten Kazoku.
>>
I highly recommend everyone watch or read Baby Steps. The biggest flaw of the anime I'd the poor production values, but the story and characters more than make up for it. Having the main character have no experience with tennis at the start really makes it fun to watch as he keeps more and more passionate about tennis. Because the stakes of most matches are pretty low you never know how it's going to end. Each victory really feels like the main character earned it through his hard work. Plus there's a nice romantic subplot that does progress further than let's say Hajime no Ippo
