Tsukikage lost on purpose, Gongenzaka lost because he gave crow shitloads of time to get an action card during crow's mid-duel storytime. The only actual victory crow had was vs Shun, and even then he was arguably forced into making certain plays because of Tanner holding onto Raikiri for dear life.

And of these, the only one to truly continue jobbing is Gongenzaka and both of his duels since have had him at some sort of blatant disadvantage going into either duel.

Gongenzaka for as cool as his duels always are, only won alone once, against a character of the day in Maiami Championship.

I'll give you Shun, but regardless of the result that duel contributed to Shun's developement. Contrast with how shun was batlantly removed from an entire arc to give Kaito a spot to shine. This is a very different way of handling things. Ultimately Shun vs Crow had a purpose in Shun's character arc.

People just blow Crow's involvement or spotlight way too out of proportion. He had 3 duels and when it comes to involvement and screentime he was handled no different than other arc-specific characters like Shinji, or Michio and Mieru back in Standard. The only thing Crow's status as legacy character did for him is putting him on a proeminent spot on the opening.
Yet people talk like Synchro was full of Crow shilling everywhere.

First Virtual World was a fun short filler, but nothing special. Second had great soundtrack and lots of retcon to Kaiba's past, it was crazy, but made me have some feels because of Noa and Gozaburo, the Deck Master stuff was an interesting gimmick, remind me about Pendulum Effects.

But Orichalcos is fucking great. I was bored watching the Battle City finals and MUH GOD CARDS, the character decks were a mess without synergy and Marik won lots of times cheating.

I do too, I wish that kind of steup was more frequent in the series. If you think about it, some of the most well regarded arcs are kind of like that, GX season 3 was all about traveling around the monster dimensions while fighting the dark army, and the dark signers arc of 5ds had the signers travel around neo domino city a lot on their d-wheels and showing off the city and its people even as they were being eaten by the earthbounds. That kinda setup is why I'm hyped for ffxv. Didn't care all that much for the flashy cinematic, but the anime with the main party traveling around fighting bad guys while on a road trip totally sold me on it.

I don't see how that's inherently a problem. That's like saying you can have Gintama without Gintoki or Ultimate Survivor Kaiji without Kaiji, which isn't true. The MC should be prominent enough to have that kind of impact on the story, otherwise why bother focusing on them at all?

I get it if you mean that it seems like the rest of the cast barely matter and the MC is a bore, but even in Zexal the antagonists managed to matter at least somewhat. Academia is an easily bowled over joke and Leo has barely done anything.

The problem ZeXal had with making its MC too important is that Yuma was never allowed to lose ever, or the show would end because Astral would kick the bucket and the Numbers would be lost (rendering the entire plot moot). Later on it was even revealed that Yuma was an aspect of Astral, meaning Yuma would've likely died along with him.

It's a bit different from 5Ds Part 2 (where the writers had numerous opportunities to give Yusei a loss but chose not to), because ZeXal accidentally wrote itself into a corner on the very first episode. In either case, though, it makes for a much more dull plot because there's little genuine drama, and it always feels forced.

Even now with Yuya, while it's easy to say "he's the MC so he's probably going to win", there are still plenty of times where it's reasonable to think that he'd lose.

I'm not even hating on Yuma here, it's just that he is a lot more generic. And on developement department I don't see a clear winner. Both have the same problem in which they do improve and mature during their series, but the transition is nowhere gradual enough.

Quality > Quantity
Most of the DM support is complete and utter crap like BLS, Buster Blader, Magician Girls and Cubics while other support is actually good and brings back decks.
This one card was all it took to make Frogs rogue tier and brought back any deck which could make Bahamut like HERO and Mermails

How is Yuya unique? He has daddy issues like 90% of shonen leads including Yuma. He has a childhood friend who he has sexual tension with. He has a dark side. He wants to make people happy.

Yuma isn't the greatest character ever but it's far more interesting to see that he can't solve everyone's problems in his series. He's a bystander for the post part. Yuya is a super hero in his series and solves everything. He can end years long wars in days. He can change people's lives after a meeting or two. He can make evil people stop being evil after their first encounter. He can solve class warfare with a single card game. He's a terrible character.

Yuya's lost important duels before though.

He lost to Reiji and got drafted into the Lancers, being placed under Reiji's control as a result.

He lost to Jack and ended up hated by the city as a result (until Shinji's revolution was already underway) and this only served to further the animosity between tops and commons in said city when he beat the BEES.

He lost to Sergey and failed to defeat Barrett during that same duel and that ended up separating the lancers, getting Yuzu and Selena kidnapped, getting Selena brainwashed, and getting Shun crushed by rocks.

GX gets more support than anything not Arc-V or DM. Arc-V only gets a lot of stuff because it's the current series and even then we got a pack with two GX archetypes in it in Destiny Soldiers. The new D Heroes are garbage but they still got made.

How did DM get SO MUCH SHIT wrong?

Poor Yugi,Judai and Yusei, none of their archetypes do what they're suppose to do.

Yuma's Gagaga's and Gogogo's can at least do their fucking jobs and shit out xyz like no tomorrow but Gogogo's are much better at swarming and stalling due to them not having ridiculous restrictions slapped on them like losing your battle phase, being forced to use only a certain type of monster or being too weak to last a round.

Who cares what the city thinks? They started sucking his dick in the end with little effort on his part anyway. They're fickle and them hating him didn't impact the plot at all because he never got to interact with anybody. That animosity between the tops and commons led to absolutely nothing.

Serena left on her own and Yuzu was freed like 3 episodes later. Yuya didn't get the Lancers separated and Shun got beat by Stealth Rocks because Shun was trying to play hero. Not because of Yuya.

E-HEROES were awesome with City beat
Stardusts were a staple as board protection
Dark Magician dies to Twin Twister/Cosmic Cyclone and Magician Girls die to Armades.

Did you read the manga? The canon arcs (Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, Memory World) are honestly much better in the manga than the anime, there's less filler and they flow better. NAS really changed a lot from the manga, a lot of it is little stuff that doesn't seem important but really adds to the story.

Too bad their boss is shit. 2 masked heroes for monster that only negates 1 card and it doesn't, treat's itself as LIGHT and an elemental hero monster? What good is that? You've basically won if you have more then one masked hero out, why would anyone run a poly in a masted hero deck anyway when you can used that space for more mask changes, form changes, mask change 2's and Mask Recharge? I just wish there were ways to search those cards besides Shadow Mist.

As Reiji said, he would grovel before Yuya if he lost. If Yuya won, he would've been the defacto leader of the lancers and synchro arc would never have occurred as it did because everyone during that arc was manipulated by Reiji or Roger due to prior circumstances.

The animosity led to Shinji's defeat and later his revolt which resulted in Yuzu being separated from the Lancers in the chaos underground.

If Yuya didn't lose to Sergey, Yuzu would've never been in Roger's possession. There would be no need to even confront Roger directly. If no one confronts Roger, him opening the vortex does fuck all and the Lancers stay together in Synchro, thereby bypassing the XYZ trip entirely.
