You're right that she did absolutely nothing. That's the problem with her character in the end. She doesn't really do anything and is more of a background character. We still don't even know anything about her or her backstory after 2 cours but yet we're somehow supposed to empathize with Subaru's feelings for her.

What do you expect of her then? She's goddamn king candidate while Subaru is literally a servant. Not even a butler, she is good-for-nothing male maid who can't even clean castle without hurting himself. He just appeared from nowhere "saving her", even though she can't be that sure of it (except that Elsa thing) as she doesn't remember other timelines unlike him.

She did all she could. She is closer to him than he should considering her position. She doesn't hate him even though he called himself her knight as a servant (great king candidate, her knight is fucking male maid). She can't help him and doesn't understand him yet she tries despite him being shitty coward, giving his strength (see: hizamakura scene, she let him rest on her lap- how the fuck do you imagine it, king candidate letting servant touch her legs? yet she comforted him and did her best despite shame).

She is doing all she can considering her position. ReZero needs some kind of ploothook to develop their relationship desipite difference of positions, but for now- having it in mind, she is doing pretty fine and has as much of positive development as she can. She did nothing to be hated.

Emilia actually really liked the way subaru treated her at first, like she was just his friend and not some kind of ultra-princess.
But as subaru's autism kicked in he started seeing her as some kind of ultra-princess too. Although that might have been the deaths and not autism itself, dying for a cause tends to extremify reactions, especially when emilia lost like 90% of the fun little interactions subaru and emilia had in the gardens.

People go on about Subaru's suffering physically but it's the good moments that were lost which are the real suffering.

Imagine he saved anybody else, like Priscilla. What would she do? Either ignore it, just pay him in gold and say him to fuck off or even ask Al/assasins to kill him as it could affect her that she was indebted to somebody who saved her. Emilia isn't like this. She has good heart and is great woman, maybe she wasn't developed properly, but there are reasons for this and she did nothing to deserve any hatred.
