I just said why I don't mind those scenes, I've seen them in every romance anime/manga I've read/watched, so I grew accustomed to them.

There are. You just need to look for a show beyond cliche romance. Princess Tutu, Cross Game, Real Drive. There's lots of them where they don't stall out the relationship with misunderstandings. They stall it out with other plot elements. Like actual character development and drama.

Even with that said, while Kimagure Orange Road falls into the same misunderstandings as a show like Ranma or Kimi ni Todoke, it does is infinitely worse. For fuck sake, the entire premise of the show is built on a misunderstanding in episode 1 that could have been easily cleared up. Then every episode after that has its own separate misunderstanding to divert the MCs attention from fixing the original misunderstanding. 'Well I can't tell Ayukawa how I really feel until I apologize for looking at her from the window like a creepy Stalker. Well now I can't tell Ayukawa how I really feel until I apologize for touching Hikaru's butt on the beach...'

The show has no plot or character development. It just throws endless misunderstandings out.

Well since in episode 2, Cross Game does a time jump to high school, you really don't understand the plot yet. But I can't say more without revealing what the whole show is about. Its very simple at its core. What makes it stand out is the focus on character interaction. Its able to develop characters separate from the romantic tension.

The first maybe 10 episodes has some resemblance of plot but after that it goes into endless misunderstanding and the plot stagnates and does not progress at all. The movie is not supposed to be happy. Ayukawa and Kasuga get together, but the whole thing is very bittersweet. They know they fucked up this whole thing with Hikaru by letting things go as long as they did. In essence, the film is as much a painful tear-jerker as it is commentary on the idiocy of the dragged out plot.

Hikaru gets the role she wanted in the end, so not EVERYTHING goes against her.

I actually like the 80s style designs, but would like to see them done in the higher resolution. To date, the only show I can think of that does this is Gundam and Cross Game. Two series I never really liked the designs for. But Cross Game is still one of my favorite shows despite the design.

It was the Inu Yasha before Inu Yasha came out. So yes, it was one of the more popular Shoujo series that 'felt like a shounen'. Though I couldn't stand it.

Nowhere near as popular as Sailor Moon or Ranma though. Or Ayashi no Ceres for that matter.

I'm considering moving KOR to dropped after seeing how everyone hate it. Haven't seen any of it in years anyway. It's just that I hate dropping stuff, but seems this may be the best choice for this anime. Or I could use it for practicing watching at 2x speed...

Seen the two first parts of Project A-Ko recently. Not good anime, but just good enough to not bore you to death or cringe you to death. Will probably finish the franchise despite it's low quality.
The two songs are really good though, listen to them a lot.

I like KOR because its quite comfy but fuck the plot and characters can be a bit daft in terms of that fucking love triangle, I do wish more modern anime tackled realistic situations more often though, that would be pretty cool.

Anyways yeah there's a lot of cliches like TOURNAMENT SAGAS EVERYWHERE, villains becoming the good guy's friend, power levels like I mentioned before and obscure old references that wouldn't make sense to a modern viewer I suppose but you have to remember this series is old as fuck (I mean it was made in 1979 for God's sake). It's still very enjoyable though because it's freaking pro wrestling with cowboys, knights, kung-fu fighters, nazis, russian cyborgs, aliens, monsters, and all kinds of other stuff.
