Everyone that replied has such cute art. I'll try and avoid anything I've already mentioned to other people but I think you'd benefit from the perspective stuff too. Even if you're only drawing a figure and an object or a surface, try to imaging a box around the figure and you only need to worry about keeping that in perspective with whatever it's resting on. I see you like to do cute waifus lying or leaning on things occasionally so it'll help a lot with that to make the delivery feel more real and intimate. I also think sometimes when you draw faces at more extreme angles the rest of the head doesn't change appropriately or the face feels like it's drifting off a little bit, it's most noticeable when you draw characters looking back over their shoulders.

Have you ever played around with line weight much? You occasionally put a darker/thicker outline than interior lines but otherwise your lines usually have a uniform thickness, especially when drawing digitally. I think it could do some fun stuff with your style, pic related has a few things that are great just to keep in mind casually while you draw, it can make things feel a lot more dynamic. Lines that are facing light being thinner in particular will really help give drawing a sense of 3d form.

Also don't be scared to use dramatic cast shadows on the face if the lighting in your scene allows for it, you love doing it on clothes and the body but looks like you get a little timid when it comes to putting shadow near a face even if there should be some nice long shadows cast from the features or the hair to match the rest of the scene. Cute chibis by the way!

Hey anon! It can be hard to give critique about anime stuff because people can turn around and say it's their style, so take this with a grain of salt and hopefully something will be of use.

Looks like you colour very lightly, that's fine if it's what you want but I did a little colour correction on your last drawing to show how washed-out they are. This happens when people colour starting with a white background instead of a mid-range grey. We see colour based on what is surrounding it, so every colour you bring into the piece is attuned to white and then you pick the next colour to match that etc. etc. so everything ends up at super high values. If you look at the histogram there is nothing at all below a certain range that you could be using to give contrast and make the image really pop.

I want to ask everyone about what they're goal is and who their inspirations are, it would make it a lot easier to reply. I've found the best thing to do if you want to draw anime is just copy your favourite artists, the better you get the more you'll understand what they're doing. If you really want to get into drawing and see progress it's definitely important to learn the basics along side that too in a more academic sense, like perspective, anatomy/construction, lighting/colour/value, etc. A lot of people just learn how to polish anime things for years and mask the flaws while still not really understanding the basics, but you can get such a huge head start if you put the time and effort in to learn.

Anime faces are very stylised so they break a few basic rules like certain symmetry, but otherwise it's still grounded in reality. The chin will usually line up with the middle of the eyes and the features are all parallel to each other (except when artists stylise the mouth to be on the side of the face). I noticed every one of your drawings has the face at the exact same angle, so make sure you try some different views too. Keep it up I expect big things!

Looks like you're getting a lot better at rendering while leaving your poses and anatomy behind. Try doing the poses yourself, you'll struggle to match the arms on that wanko or the misato on a waterslide without feeling a lot of pain. It's mostly that you're trying to draw hands facing the camera flat in your drawings because it's simpler than a view where the fingers are behind each other. Same with feet, try to keep them feeling natural instead of needing to show the flat soles. You have two hands to draw from so don't be afraid to use a mirror or grab a reference picture, it's not cheating.

Definitely draw through your forms too, there's some funky stuff happening to the body where things are blocking our line of sight. Try to fight the urge to force things into view that shouldn't be, like misato's belly button or the hip on her far side. Imagine taking away her leg that's in the way, we'd see a very very wide pelvis, so don't be embarrassed to draw a stick skeleton and double check your proportions as if you were using an xray.

Another thing I noticed is you tend to close off your limbs. Here's a page from Hampton's figure drawing book, he's talking about gesture drawing here but it applies to figures in general too, otherwise they end up looking like a balloon animal with pinches where the joints are. It can be difficult to apply that in actual drawings without having anatomy knowledge though, you can check how your favourite artists simplify joints with overlapping lines. I might have to keep these shorter since I see a lot of replies down there.

Haha yeah, I need to grind out hands quite badly. No other way I'm going to get better at them. It's probably pretty obvious by now that I'm not confident with feet or legs in general with how often I hide them.
Regarding closing off limbs, I still have a lot of problems even with the basic construction of them, so trying an asymmetrical method will probably help quite a lot. Which still likely boils down to anatomy knowledge which I lack.

Sup woof, cute stuff. Sketchy is great, you'll learn a lot faster than if you sunk hours into rendering everything you do, though I would like to see you go 'all out' on something some time too.

When you are hatching those quick sketches try hatching along the form of the object rather than all in the same direction or in random directions, it adds a huge sense of volume to whatever you're drawing. Of course there's some nice effects you can get if they're all parallel too.

Be careful with scarves, you have a habit of shortening or elongating the neck when it's hidden. Picture what's underneath, or even put a few seconds into sketching it out quickly. When you draw 3/4 view faces make sure you only shorten the far eye horizontally, not vertically. There isn't enough distance to see any change in eye height from foreshortening like in that haruhi/kurisu cosplay pic.

Another thing I noticed is that you draw dogs a lot, but cats are actually superior.

That's some sexy stuff bro, great rendering. Your last few seem like a big step up so I wont touch the things before this year which doesn't leave too many to go on, so I'll just be spewing subjective shit at you, feel free to tell me to fuck off.

I'd love to see you bend closer closer to realism with the complexity of your faces rather than mostly gradients that just follow the sphere of the head and ignore the features, they feel very flat on your bodies that are have such nicely fleshed out forms. Especially around the eyes where the colour just keeps going smoothly over your brows into the hairline. It's not that it looks bad, it's a nice style, but I think there's a ton of potential to add some delicious plane changes with lighting like you do with the rest. If you look at people like krenz or alphonse they use such beautiful hard and soft edges to break the face and it adds so much depth and character and it looks like you're starting to go for that more painterly style.

Sorry I can't give you much, you obviously know what you want. Nice job on that progress over the last 3-4 years.

Cute work anon, don't pussy out with shadows though. Your drawings usually lack them and when you add them it's usually very soft, let me see some hard edges and bigger value changes. Soft edged cast shadows everywhere makes it feel like diffuse lighting. That's fine but then you'll make another cast shadow in the same situation have a hard edge which means it's under direct light. You have to keep the lighting consistent throughout the image and obey the laws of physics, you can't have conflicts across your painting. Also there's nothing wrong with that kind of diffuse overcast lighting but it feels more like you're doing ambient occlusion and just adding shadows where you are used to them like under the chin and hair.

Getting a good grasp of lighting will make your drawings feel way more 3d, don't be afraid of ruining your images with them. As for the darkness of the shadows, be more aggressive. A good cheat until you have a better grasp of colour theory is to go half the distance from the colour towards black and then increase the saturation a little and you'll have an ok 'cheat' shadow colour. Have fun!

Cool that you do mostly traditional and some watercolour. Be careful with proportions though, particularly elongating torsos and confusion around the pelvis, especially when it's being partially obscured. Construction construction construction! Make sure your figures make sense in 3d space. I threw similar things at a few others about drawing through the form.

If you've never tried gesture drawing I think it'd be a great help, pretty fun way to build up a sense of distances around the human body.

You haven't got many rendered images on the booru but check out the stuff I said to ruuey about shadows too. Try to think about the body in basic 3d shapes and apply consistent lighting rather than symbolic lighting, there's a million tutorials out there about form and lighting that can say it much better than I can. Looks like you have a lot of fun adapting to different waifu's styles, keep it up!
