Simon grows to be a better man than Kamina. Simon seems more like a guy who pulls you up and makes you stand alongside him as an equal, while Kamina makes you follow him.

Becoming a hobo is many times better than the Spiral Nemesis. The Spiral Nemesis future in which Simon wages war against the universe is the same as the future Ryoma saw in the Shin Getter manga. The Getter Emperor was even described as being the enemy of the universe by Ken Ishikawa. Getter and Spiral both benefit humanity by helping it expand across and conquer the universe, but they can also ruin the universe for everyone else.

Simon managed to stop that from happening, but Ryoma was doomed no matter what. I haven't read the manga in ages and haven't watched TTGL in while, so I might be wrong when it comes to describing Spiral Nemesis.
