Problem is you can't really do much with modern air combat. It will never be as exciting as propeller dogfights without pulling some bullshit like they did in 3rd Aerial. Even Ace Combat games get boring and predictable. If you want to do a large cast with varying personalities, then you have to lend them different vehicles to do so. Unlike what Flight Highschool memes about, jets very much kept up with each other in terms of technology and capability and very rarely do technologically inferior generations beat newer ones. This removes many of the elements which makes shows like GuP and Haifuri exciting. Personally, a show like the Red Baron movie would be the aim.

Include all the gorey goodness of WW1 and it'd be hot shit. Witch vs. witch dogfights, witch vs planes, witches strafing trenches and dropping grenades, as well as airships becoming witch carriers. Terrify civilian centers by launching witches onto the general populace.

Heck, stretch it on to WW2 for kamikaze witches and witch banzai charges. Stretch it into the Cold War, get little girls in a battle for supersonic speed. Stretch it into modern day, get witches directing CAS and raiding terrorist hideouts. This shit has so much potential.

I'm not. The original post I replied to claimed the Zero and the Hellcat were evenly matched, which is factually false. Even if you disregard their performance in battle and just look at the raw data the Hellcat is superior in everything but turn rate, even compared to Late Zero variants.
To put it in other words: If you were to put two equally as skilled pilots in the planes and let them fight the Hellcat pilot would win almost every time for the sole reason that he is able to pick when and where to fight, while the Zero pilot needs to react.

Doesn't matter what training you have when the enemy can engage and disengage at will whenever they want.
The Hellcat is almost 100km/h faster than a A6M even in a straight line, can dive faster and has better acceleration and energy retention.
The only thing a Zero pilot can do is try to dodge each attack, but that only bleeds more energy every time.
After a few passes the Zero is fucked, out of energy and can't run or dive away because the Hellcat is better at both.

Air combat sucked but for first episode teaser of big final battle, which sucked.

Corsair was arguably better than the Hellcat in my opinion. Zero a shit. Can't roll, locks up at high speed, shitty weapons, no protection, etc.

If you look at the design of the Corsair, you could kind of tell how hard it was to land it on a carrier. Whenever it touched down, it would usually bump up a lot or flip over very often. And with the cocky and canopy so far back, the pilot couldn't usually tell if the plane was landing at the right angle.

Hellcat didn't have any of those problems and could very easily land on a carrier because of how rugged it was.
