After the end of the anime (Guts leaving Godo's house), Guts engages in a solitary war with the Apostles and tries to hunt down the God Hand in the name of vengeance.

It starts with Guts killing the female apostle that ate Corkus during the Eclipse, followed up by the death of the Snake Baron (EP 1) and The Count/giant caterpillar apostle.

After that, he went on and engaged with Rosine and her "elf" monsters, who were all actually kids. Rosine (the female moth apostle who had a brief appearance in the anime) abducted kids and turned them into "elves" in order to satisfy her dreams of living in a kingdom where elves ruled and there were no adults to obey.

Rosine insisted that she and her friends are elves, but Puck later realizes that they were actually children. In the fight between Guts and Rosine, there were egg sacs in the mountains that housed the "elves" who were in the process of transforming into monsters. Guts gladly killed those little fuckers and had no remorse for them, even after realizing that the "elves" actually revert back to children in their dying moments. Guts was fucking edgy back then. Also, in order to douse the flames in the forest, Guts tore open the egg sacs containing the monsters, killing the children in the process and also to cool himself down from the heat.

The first manifestations of the Beast also appeared in that arc. Guts was more of a monster than Rosine was. As if Guts was in the verge of becoming a monster himself, lost in his lust for vengeance and thirst for killing apostles.

Guts was the one who killed the Kings right hand man, whatever his name is and his son, as well as being responsible for the deaths of a few other members. On top of which Guts was born just to suffer. The egg reacts to him, and he manages to survive many attempts on his life.

My theory is Guts was supposed to be what Femto is, not Griffith, but because Guts essentially says fuck fate, he didn't stick around long enough to be accused and tried for the assassination of the duke and his son. In fact Guts is always taking off when things feel to good to him, something always happens to throw a wrench into things, because he fights against his own destiny. He even has the murderous demon intent inside of him, and had it way back, though it was nowhere near as bad as it is now to be kept under control.

Guts was to join the God Hand, not Griffith, and usher in an age of darkness, but because Griffith wants a kingdom, its a age of light and he is keeping the demons at bay. If it was Guts, the age of darkness would be at hand and he would swallow up as many as he could to keep fighting.

Guts currently has a egg, the odds are its his second chance.

Since Guts cant be the angle of darkness that they wanted, they will let Griffith bring everybody in the world to one location, using Griffith before tricking him and triggering a true sacrifice where the god hand become one, and god, this pisses off Griffith and he fights back, Zodd, Skull Knight, and Guts all join the battle taking on one demon at a time.

It ends with Zodd and Skull Knight almost dead, and they just duke it out to the death until both die. Griffith and Guts almost dead, they have one last fist fight and Guts wins, and cries cause his best friend is dead regardless of everything that happened, cause destiny is a real bitch.

God is being born, only one way to stop it, Guts goes to use the Behlit, and is stopped by Zodd, who uses it to end the fucking cycle and reclaim himself, the ultimate glory, killing god, Skull Knight comes in to explain that Zodd was the king and that he was just his friend, and the cycle is ended, Skull Knight fades away.

Guts puts his glasses on, and nothing will be wrong, and abandons Casca and his friends to go off into the woods to train HAAAIIIII YA! HAAAIIIYAAAA CLANG CLANGIDY CLANG CLANG CLANG HIYYAAAA!
