I just finished the anime series Shiki.
I thought it was so fucking good. I believe there is a huge message in this series but I can't put my finger on it.
I want to hear your guys opinions on Shiki

The message is thatcapitalism is bad.
This thread is going places.
Shiki is like if someone tried to justify the migrant crisis but every migrant was actually a horrible monster that kills people on a regular basis.

To be fair, most of the villagers were shitty as well. There were like three likable characters in the whole thing.

I think it was that gif of that stalker vampire girl with her head getting crushed by a tractor that made me interested, as edgy as that might sound. Don't remember how much I read up about it before I watched it, but two things really surprised me:
>1.
There were some moments in the first half that genuinely spooked me, like pic related.
>2.
As the show went on, you saw that the vampires for the most part acted like humans and mantained the character they had as humans. I was irritated by this, it made them less horrifying. But as the massacre started it made all sense. Don't get me wrong, the shiki desevered to be killed. But some things the humans did was really cruel and it wouldn't have the same impact if the shiki were just monsters.

I almost dropped the show because of the pink haired bitch. I went in completely blind and during the first episode I should she was the MC. I was so glad when she died.
>>144868960
This. It's the story of a bunch of assholes killing each other.
>>144869004
She was in fact a bitch , but some how I felt something for her when she died.
>>144869004
>I almost dropped the show because of the pink haired bitch.
Almost did the same, glad I sticked to it.
>>144868402
I'm pretty sure it's about how people are willing to justify morally ambiguous actions.
>>144869255
Bingo
>>144869255
I really liked the doc and his actions.
Vampires are monsters.
>>144869004
I was glad when the edgy guy she was crushing on died.

It couldn't into pacing.
It spent it's entire first half with the human's jobbing out super hard to the point of complete hopelessness. Then with a flick of a switch the tables turned instantly and it was the vampires doing all the jobbing.
The was no real conflict, it wasn't some hard fought comeback for humanity, they just fucking powered up instantly and could decimate vampires effortlessly.
It came off as really cheap. It was established that vampires were much stronger, agile and more durable than humans. Yet humans were able to go into a dark tunnel infested with vampires and do a complete clean out. In any other piece of vampire media ever, that would have been absolute suicide. You can't spend something like 16 episodes showcasing how dangerous and lethal the vampire menace is, then turn right around and have them get utterly blown the fuck out in a situation where they have an overwhelming advantage. It's ridiculous.
It just wanted to jerk off over some retarded "humans are just as much a monster as the monsters" tripe, because THAT is somehow profound in this day and age.

The doctor did nothing wrong though. He had no other choice if he wanted to save the few remaining people. And don't for a second pretend that the vampires didn't deserve to be killed.

This is the worst taste I've seen in ages. The vampire hunt was fucking 10/10.
>>144868402
This show was more of a zombie flick than a vampire show honestly
>>144872829
The vampires were picking people off, and then they got turned on by the whole fucking village while unprepared. There was never any reason to assume that the villagers couldn't win in a fight if it came to it.
>>144873137
I even thought it was strange the vampires where even able to bite people with any kind of weapon during the big fight. It should be easy to hit them square in the face with a shovel when they try to get close.
So what was the priests problem? Why did he like the loli vampire, and seemed to value vampire lives over a humans?
>>144868402
>I believe there is a huge message in this series but I can't put my finger on it.
The message is "remove shiki fucking shits"
I loved the ending, but I couldn't take it seriously. Everything was slow paced and suddenly there's mass killing and everyone dies or enjoys a cup of tea over the pile of corpses.
I also thought they tried too hard to pull out a complex, philosophical concept out of a simple idea.
My only disappointment is that the little vampire shit and the priest didn't burn to death.
Bonus points for the gay suits and tractors.
Who was your favorite character?
>>144875265
>Who was your favorite character?
Definitely that one nurse who managed to resist the urge after turning into a vampire.
>>144873945
He's a pedophile.
>>144868923
As opposed to real life?
>>144875900
The vampires would've cut off the priests head if the where like the ''migrants''.
>>144876019
The vampires are literally going to kill every single person in that village through their actions, how is it any different if they do it violently or not?
I never undestood this stupid vampire loli bitches plan either, did they think they would just all move to another area after killing everyone in this village or turning most into vampires? How did she expect this to end? Eventually they're gonna get found out and fucked up.
>>144876333
The priest thing was a joke about a 12yo migrant cutting of a priests head in germany this week.
They where planning to use the remote village as a safe haven, and abduct people form large cities to feed.
> Eventually they're gonna get found out and fucked up.
I don't think that would've happened if they succeeded in taking over the entire village. It would be easy to stay hidden if it appeared to be a normal place from the outside. If the authorities don't know of the existence of vampires, that is.

Anons always frame it as a matter of which side attacked first, but I don't think that mattered much to the priest. I don't think he felt much sense of belonging/connection to human society in the first place, honestly. I mean, he's a priest who writes some 2deep books about Cain and Abel, and he attempted suicide previously, so it seems like he's angsty and maladjusted. Plus his only friend also happens to be the like one other educated person in the village, so I don't think he fit in that well. His father's willingly becoming a Shiki and how easily the villagers turned on his family later also seem to hint at their family not fitting in. He probably just found Sunako more relatable as a person - I don't think the fact that she was killing people, or the practical non-justification of her actions, mattered as much to him as the general attitude of loneliness behind it.
>>144876679
>Anons always frame it as a matter of which side attacked first,
Not really. People mostly point out that vampires could live a long and safe life without murdering anyone yet decided they need vampire only village, murdering many in the process.
>>144876925
That's more or less what I mean. They started it and the villagers retaliated. I don't think the priest cared about that.
>>144876965
>retaliated
In self-defense, I mean, in case anyone takes issue with that wording.
>>144868562
Man that's fucking gold.
