My personal approach to it is that I will first watch it in 0.5x speed so I that I catch everything there is to see. Then once I'm confident I have properly analysed the episode I will watch in 2x speed.
This way the 0.5 and 2 will cancel each other out and I have essentially seen the episode in regular speed.

Anime is supposed to be something you enjoy, the only reason I can see someone speeding it up is to post it on his MAL.

I just hate getting spoiled for stuff and the best way to avoid that is by watching stuff when it airs.

There are certain shows that I watched on normal speed, like Flying Witch, because that show is all about the relaxing atmosphere and that is ruined by putting on 2x speed.

My policy is to never drop anything. As such, I sometimes have to bust out the 2x speed for sanity's sake and only slow things down if the show seems like it could redeem itself. Mainly just needed it for Absolute Duo, Active Raid, and Rurouni Kenshin filler that I didn't know was filler until it became painfully obvious.
