Those were the times.

What I loved about this show is that the characters acted like people. I've never seen that in another anime. Pretty damn rare in TV and movies, too. But they were reasonable and unreasonable in turn, they had irrational reactions and then talked them over and worked through things. They got mad but listened to explanations. They did things that made us dislike them and then atoned for them (or not). The writing in this show, other than the stupid ghost/amnesia thing, was stellar.
