Have no taken any nip course or text book.

After years of animu, I somehow can understand the grammars (i.e. conjugation) ,also because of chink's base stat boost the vocabs also seeps into me, ( sometimes some out of place kotowaza, jap's 四字熟語, 和製漢語 and 熟字訓 still amuses me )

Able to make out meaning quite accurately from news portal articles, however i still can't write a shit sentence (like : that will be a pleasure if you let me go with you) other than やらないか.

walking into /djt/ first time, i tried tae kim, but starting from は を の へ で is just plain ass pain.
How do I self assess ?
also any suggestion for learning thru chink?

I've been sitting on that masterpiece for too long. I'm glad you can get some use out of it.

I have lots more but I can only recall them when the words come up. I don't actually use them as mnemonics, just curious little connections between languages that happen to pop into my mind.

>Only 10k in 2 years? I thought 10k per year was generally considered the minimum.
I have had great success in subscribing to the school of "read more". I always focused more on reading than anki, when I started reading anyway. Before that I was just lazy about flashcards because memorizing kanji hurt.
I stopped mining about six months ago, and before that didn't do many new cards anyway.
At some point it becomes so easy to just read and have a good time that's all I end up doing. Don't even bother to add unknown words to anki. Of course, I don't need a texthooker to read. I only let myself get this slack because reading got so easy, in general.
>>
>>144709620
>80% useless newspaper words like core6k
Reminder that the vast majority of the words that seem useless to a beginner turn out to be very useful when they actually start reading Japanese porn games.
>>
>>144709914
Holy crap
I just want to say, thank you.
I don't come here often anymore. Stopped a while ago. I came here to post about an incident with anki, because it's the first "learning Japanese" relevant thing that's interrupted my months of solid reading.
And, what do I see, but your post. It made me laugh out loud. It is just so excellent to see, the exact same replies being made to the exact same posts, that were being made months ago, a year ago. It's so funny. The whole time I've been gone, the same things have been discussed. It's an endless loop. It's funny that people participate in it despite knowing its looping, and its funny if people don't realize they're in a loop. What a wild place, DJT. An endless recursion of time.
>>
>>144709906

What was the first thing you read?
>>
>>144710080
My first manga was To Love Ru. I was afraid of Yotsuba because it was THE easy thing. I didn't want to read it and fail. So I just thought of a shounen harem and started it. Was a good read.
The first VN I read, though, was Mako Hunter.
I want to re read it, because at that point I remember being in the "a new kanji every line!" state of mind. How wild! It would probably be a whole new experience now.
By the way, I mention both VN and manga, because the experience of reading with a texthooker in a VN was life-changing. With manga, looking up words/kanji (I didnt use kanjitomo) was so tedious I didn't actually get through much text. But texthookers sped it up so much, it was like another world. I probably read more Mako Hunter in 2 days then I did manga in 2 months.
>>
>>144710054
No problem. Although I don't see why you consider it amusing or interesting. Everything repeats. You talk with IRL people in IRL conversations and it is the same boring topics, the same inane pleasantries everyone uses. You go to other threads on 4chan, there's the same memes, the same style of posts, the same arguments about best girls using the same reasons. You read porn games and they repeat the same archetypes, the same general structure and ideas for plots and generic lines thrown in to fill up line space. What do you expect, each and every line to be a unique, invigorating, new experience of creativity, a collection of geniuses constantly generating new and fresh ideas and opinions? 笑わせるな!

I would be incredibly happy if my post became pasta because in that case it would join the infinite loop.
>>144710267
It's mainly the back and forth that makes me laugh. Yeah, people repeat themselves. Because what they're repeating has a service. Okay, a guy posts about his waifu. He wants to express love. Okay, people talk about boring topics. They want to be polite. Okay, someone posts a meme. They want to be funny. Okay. But people repeating themselves, and then getting a repeated response? Now that's funny. That's two people engaging over and over, of their own will, in an endless battle. It's comical. Thinking of the service, is comicla. Why would two people, of their own will, repeat the same posts to each other? In a serious discussion? Why would two people repeatedly type up the same posts in an argument that's been held over and over? What are they thinking? Do they know they're in a loop? Do they think what they're saying is meaningful, and will change something? If they knew they were looping would they stop? It's really funny to think about. Well, it's funny to me, because I was in this DJT loop, and am seeing it continue, a year without me, it's still continuing, same thing. It's just plain funny.

>>
Where do you guys go to get manga raws? They seem practically impossible to find in non-complete-garbage quality.
>>
>>144710501
I see your point. The idea is that arguments, normally, are to convince people of things, whereas ours consist of the same points repeated over and over futilely, in the knowledge we'll never succeed in convincing the other party. There is some meaning though, namely that the people in these threads do change, as you left, and as new beginners join and start lurking. Each time the loop repeats, there might be a new person who's never seen it before, who reads each point as if it was freshly invented and carefully has to consider which side he chooses to believe in. You break the loop, you allow the other side free reign to spread their arguments unrebutted, that beginner is going to see their thoughts as if they were unquestioned fact, which is of course unforgivable. And that's, at least partly, why the loop continues, and will probably continue to continue until the thread dies.

It is pretty funny now I think about it.

Something strange happened. I put off doing my reps for a really long time today, telling myself I didn't have the energy, and was almost ready to just go to bed without finishing them, but barely managed to push myself telling myself I'd just rush through them as quickly as possible and go straight to bed.

Not only did I do my usual amount of cards much, much faster than usual, but somehow it felt like pushing myself to do them quickly made it easier. I thought that doing them as quickly as possible would be more mentally straining, but it was as if letting myself throw out the first association that came to mind freed me of the noise of all the uncertain associations that I usually go through before I arrive at one I'm confident in.

Can anyone relate to this, or am I talking nonsense?

For some reason the import function on Rikaisama has stopped working for me. When I press the hotkey it plays the audio but there's no popup in the bottom right and it hasn't added any cards. I tried restarting both Firefox and Anki but nothing changes. I haven't changed any settings since it was last working so I don't know what the issue could be.
>>
>>144710501
What was the loop exactly?
>>
>>144711074

Nah, that's very true. It is not always easy to get into that golden mindset but once you're in it you could probably do 1000 cards in one go.

Sometimes this happens to me and the only thing that works is restarting my PC. If even that doesn't work I have no suggestions.

Impression you get from a sentence/word.

Why are you overthinking it?
Look at all the definitions and try to grasp the concept: impression of sentence, word, letter shape one gets.

Now try to imagine that and apply it to オマンコ.

You can attempt to get a (shitty) literal translation along the lines of "what I'm getting from my impression (of your オマンコ) alone is that this is delicious, right?" or you can take >>144714781's fitting translation for it.

i think the difference between the words is that of "legend" and "myth".. legend is a story that details an event that could've happened a long time ago and a myth is closer to do with creation of the earth, the universe...

伝説 I have been told is like a story that is passed down from generation to generation...famous tales of a legendary person like Musashi or someone like that.. don quxiote

神話 the first character in this compound is the one for god/deity and the second character is for story.. so I would guess it would be about shinto gods... along the same lines as the myths about greek gods

i may just grasping at straws but that's my guess at the difference

Yo, got an Anki question.

So I fucked up while messing with a personal deck and ended up making 50 new/100 review cards my default and that's how I started the 2k/6k deck.

Both yesterday and today I ended up reviewing like 700 cards because I strived for perfection and recognizing the words right away without mistakes.

Is this shit gonna work or should I lower my card count? I've got time to kill so I don't mind spending an hour and a half on it.

50 new cards will end up being about 550-600 reviews per day.

If you've really limited anki to 100 review cards per day you should remove that limit immediately.

>I ended up reviewing like 700 cards

check out "breaking into japanese literature" by giles murray. book contains parts from soseki and akutgawa

"read real japanese" has a few editions with different short stories. the speech is much faster than murray's. the audio from read real japanese series and breaking into japanese literature is in japanese only.. no english. Murray has a second more advanced book but that one doesn't have audio

you can find an older Japanese man reading no longer human on you tube
heres the first part : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TyI1lgIv3Y&index=1&list=PLN6srLJBWup4ZhtUC2SaYTwf34kCv4kyC

here's the transcript http://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/000035/files/301_14912.html

what kind of material are you using now that has the English audio blocks?

It's more like about 1000. I did 60 for some time and I had like 1200 reviews.
In the Anki manual is a formular; new cards * 20 = total reviews

No shit you're going to fail all of them if you're just starting. Give yourself 5-10 seconds to recognise the card at least.
Don't worry about being perfect, just try and understand the card and then rate it.

Learning 50 and reviewing 100 is pretty pointless. You'll only see cards once in a blue moon.

What now? Should I plow through the core 6k, or do core 2k and start mining from some simple vn straightaway?

>>
>>144725712
Mining is making your own anki deck out of the vocab that you encounter while reading
>>
How are you supposed to do anki?
Do you only get what the kanji meanings or the on/kun readings aswell?

or do you leave the readings for later when you start reading shit?
>>
>>144725824

Shit that came out unreadable.
In short, do you bother to memorize the readings or only the meaning?
>>
>>144725844
Usually you do anki on a vocabulary basis, not a kanji basis.

So when a vocab word pops up you study the aspects of the kanji which relate to that particular word. Don't just memorize a list of readings for each kanji. Just study the reading that's used as you encounter new vocabulary.
>>

71 days, to be exact. Most of the time I used one of the top 2 community stories, often adding a twist that made remembring the story easier for me - adding things realted to my life or shows / games I like, but sometimes I made up my own: with anime or vn characters that I've come to like and remember (休 as Shizuru from Rewrite RESTing under a tree, for instance).

These were really annoying: 乃 及 吸 扱 丈 史 吏 更
And I didn't like remembering "easy ones" with few strokes in them. Somehow a complex story was easier for me to remember, than a lousy short one.

My advice: don't rush when you create a story. Sometimes I was dead tired after 9 hours at work, and wanted to quickly finish things up with Anki, and made weak, short stories that didn't stick at all. Next day i had no idea what the story was supposed to be even after seeing a failed kanji. If you create your own stories do it right. Take a minute, and imagine, visualize the scene. Remembering them as "text passages" doesn't work well with more complex ones.

Anon Core 5K is an alternative to Core 2k/6k made with a better frequency sampling of the language, but it lacks images and audio, and it's significantly less widely used.

The DoJG deck is a rip of A Dictionary of Japanese Grammar. Some people use it for extra exposure and don't care about getting things right or wrong. Some people use it to memorize grammar like they memorize words. If you want to memorize grammar like you memorize words, you need to edit the deck's format appropriately.

I'm watch a series and a character's name in the subtitles is "Daichi", but when his female friend addresses him, it sounds like だいちょん or だいちゃん. I think maybe she's saying だいちさん but it's just said quickly. Does that seem right? Sorry this is a pretty bad, vague question without actually hearing it, I'm trying to work on my listening skills
>>
>>144736261
Just give the whole episode a run before the subs actually come out, it's a good opportunity since you can't cheat and turn on the subs. It's up to you whether to run through it, pause occasionally or even replay sentences in slow motion to try and get every last syllable out.

When you compare your understanding to the actual sub, the results might surprise you.

Kind of.
Cuck implies that you are consenting to someone fucking your wife. However, the fantasy is that your consent doesn't matter, so a lot of cuck porn panders to this by having the guy cry in a corner and begging her to stop.

Similarly NTR just means that your girl gets taken from you. Whether that's by force or irresistible temptation varies.

Since this is the jap thread here's some trivia, NTR stands for netorare, or 寝取られ.

It's pretty shitty, but the only really good thing about it is that everything you learn builds upon another.
You only unlock vocab once you know the corresponding kanji well enough, and so on.

If anki could do that and someone where to make a really nice deck it would be perfect.

>It's almost certainly not worth the price.

The only reason to pay for WK is if you're willing to pay out the ass to get around a fairly small amount of work. You can get more or less the same results working through the KLC or something instead, for significantly less money. It just requires a bit of effort from you to make it work.

It's a bit of both. By acquainting yourself with grammar you give yourself a springboard to more quickly pick up on its "true" usage through reading and experience. Was playing this shit since s1. Lately it didn't even bring me fun, but I just had to play. Now I'm can't even focus on learning japanese because of withdrawal symptoms. It's trully meth of digital age. Watch out kids.

Low level of vitamin D is linked to cognitive impairment. Normally it's produced when our skin comes in contact with sunlight. So basically it let you think clearly.

If you spent that time watching anime you would be fluent already
>>

And would probably have developed a brain tumour

That tumor would still be smaller than one you're gonna get from 7000 hours of LoL.

I can't imagine the kind of people that would put 7000 hours into LoL would even have brains in the first place

Where the fuck is the guy that posts how much time he's spent on anki and visual novels today

How am I supposed to feel comforted knowing that he's steadily continuing with his studies if he's not here to update me

I just checked my WoW account and I've spent ~8500 hours on it. Although that is 10+ years of playing, and a lot of it was AFK. If I'd learned even 1 word per hour of WoW, I would be fluent by now.

All I know about the difference between those two games, is one allows real money to actually influence the gameplay and the other doesn't.
That's really all anyone needs to know and there's no point in arguing further.

Just finished memorizing the hiragana, do I need to bother with katakana or should I move onto Anki and reading?

I don't have a problem doing it just wanted to know if it was a waste of time or not.
>>
>>144751222
How do you expect to be able to understand the language if you can't understand 1/3rd of the writing system
>>
>>144751222
I did that once
I learned my lesson, even if you get rustier in katakana faster than hiragana due to comparative underuse you WILL need it

Explain what you're doing. Describe what fails.
>>
Should i be learning vocabulary while learning characters? Or should i be focusing on the characters and do the vocab after i've memorized them?
>>
>>144752220
Naw man, spend months learning English keywords for every character there is without actually doing anything with Japanese, that certainly sounds like a good way to go about learning the language.
>>
Is there a way to mass suspend Anki cards based on a list of words?
