I doubt age is the only reason. It probably doesn't help that while the story is simple, he's changed the tune of it for a long time over the years and has to decide whether to change it back later and all that jazz. The example I gave has a lot more depth from a planning and innovative stand point but creativity wise it's just following what's already laid out reducing a lot of work.

I highly doubt someone who took as long as Miura is 100% confident in his own built up script. Only guys like Oda would be like that, and that's cause they are like mad men. The longer you leave something cold and undrawn the more opportunities you have to not only change it but second guess yourself. Hell Miura even took a break for that shitty piss loli.

There was no need to see him since Griffith merged the worlds, but I'm kinda worried about him. Griffith used his sword's slash to cut the Ganisha tree, settle the world tree and Falconia.

On the chapter, most ideas were just confirmations, except one.
Falconia was not created from scratch, but was revived by Griffith.
If the Gaiserik city was one of the greatest, it was located under the huge tower where Griffith was trapped. And after him, no king merged the midland again, so no reason for a huge city to be created (the destruction would be on historical records too).
So, what city did Griffith revived? Is it a very old city? Was it more than 1000 years old?

If that's a very old city, is it fate that the Ganishka tree ended in this place? The Ganishka egg looked looked like it used the power of abyss without being controlled by them, but at the end, it was also a part of them? Ganishka thought he'd become the great king by opposing the Falcon's apostles, but in fact he was doing the work of the abyss? Was it his fate to create an artificial egg to re-transcend himself so he'd become a giant tree (helped by the fact that Griffith erased the sacred woods to weaken the roots of the spiritual tree)?

On the top of that, even if Elves and wizards seem powerful, how can they even scratch that tree, whose branches reach the sky and spread over all the midland (the army of demons seems low level compared to the hugeness of that tree (the same way Guts party wouldn't be able to destroy the re-transcended Ganishka))?

So, thanks to his knowledge inherited from the abyss, and the idea of evil, he targeted the spiritual trees to weaken the connection between the upper parts of the astral/spiritual world (magic/faeries/elementals, ect...) and the real world (he weakened the same way the wizards which may be powerful opponents to his goal). Then, thanks to the re-transcended Ganishka, he seeded himself a huge spiritual tree, that was huge enough (weak spiritual trees around so more place for it) to root into the lower parts of the spiritual realm, to reach the abyss.

The purpose of Griffith is to connect his master, the idea of evil, to the real world, so it can rule over it. The fact that his tree rooted itself deeply led to the released of numerous mythical/spiritual creatures, being them friendly (upper part of the astral realm (faeries, unicorns, ect...)), or very dangerous (lower parts of the astral world (dragons, hydras, ect...)).

Yay we reached elf king. Now guts need to ditch that armor already. Not only will it eventually fuck his body and mind up more than its already been fucked up but fights have gotten stale with its overuse. Please miura.

Or the lore goes deeper and explain that the idea of evil was sealed into the abyss because it's always trying to destroy/rule over the whole world.
Or it explains that connecting the worlds is a kind of illegal/forbidden process because it modify the imbalance of the worlds (magic, natural, abyss, ect...).
Or it's the goal of idea of evil to rule over all the worlds because, it's, by definition, an evil spirit.
Or it's because of the lore. The heroes need antagonists, so they need a treat big enough to justify the story. The same way Kurumada got influenced by Greek gods, but turned Hades and Poseidon as treats towards Athena to justify the actions of the heroes.

Don't get me wrong, Guts' development in the Golden Age is perfect. The main trio have great interactions and even the secondary characters are well-fleshed, it's one of my favorite arcs.

Gut's development from Conviction and onward is just shit. He realizes he wants to protect Casca, that's basic as fuck, we already knew that, that's why he hid her in Godoh's cave.
Then?
Nothing. He gets some dumb secondary characters to protect her, that's not development, and after a while he says he likes those guys too. That's all. He has no meaningful interactions with them outside of "you're cool guys" and sometimes entrusting them to kill some monster or whatever.

It'd be fine if it was 3 or 4 vols. But it's like 15 vols of that shit. Fuck. Golden Age made Guts' whole character in less than that.

They really weren't. Every BotH member had the bare minimum of characterisation to make their deaths actually mean something. They were also completely static. Compared to the current party that actually grows. And serpico and Farnesse who have had entire episodes devoted to their childhoods and were firmly cemented in the world even before they joined the party.

Holy shit you must have a legitimate disorder if you thought Guts leaving Casca in a cave was for her sake. He did it so he could indulge in the edge-quest you hold in such high regard with no strings attached. And got chewed out for it the minute he came back at which point he realised he had pushed away the one thing he cared about.

Griffith had almost sized a Kingdom by killing rival nobles and being close to get the hand of the princess (in a formal way, it was only a matter of time), had most of mercenary band positioned in key places, and because that was not enough for him he throw it away when he couldn't get more (that's it, he couldn't get Guts).

Guts knows that Griffith will want more and more. It's in his nature. The castle in the hill is just an idea. He will always keep climbing the hill trying to reach for the castle, one that elevates over even countries.

Putting Casca in the cave was for her sake. Leaving was for his sake but also to avenge the falcons which is a reasonable decision. Also, he had no other choice at the time because you can't shrug off PTSD just like that. Casca went retarded, Guts went to war and saved people just like that.
