Speaking of battles, the Katz Korner boss battle is like this too - you have to use both of them. That battle was amazing for me, the best strategy I found was leaving Sorey+Mikleo with the AI and hitting the boss with Rose+Zaveid. That was completely different from any other boss before it.

Laziness is an inaccurate descriptor, terrible management is more accurate. They couldn't even get seamless transitions working right and they were hyping that shit for like 2 years, they were going for a skyrim-esque open world and flubbed that too. There's a disconnect between management and developers somewhere, where they plan incredibly ambitious games that simply can't get done in time, and then chunks of the game are simply ripped out as development winds down until they have a shippable product by the release date. To what extent this affects the plot (the most obvious example of Alisha being revealed so early and hyped so much in adverstisements/merch and then disappears for most of the game) is much harder to say.
