Anyone know how much Redline cost? Must have been expensive but probably not as much as the average Ghibli film.

Ask Madhouse. Making the film cost 7 years, btw.
About three fiddy

If you just put hours spent on actually working on the film it probably wouldn't be more than on something like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away or Akira.

Apparently part of it was done on the animators' free time
And fuck if it doesn't shows. Parts of the movie have different resolutions and the directing is all over the place.
They tried to make a super animated anime, but all they did in the end is to prove that animation isn't everything.
What a fucking disappointment.

Animation is more important though. Light hearted disney tier animations are never disliked.
>Wonder what the fuzz is all about
>Go watch it
>It all style and no substance
Should have spent more time making the script.

That's not how writing works.
You don't make something better by just adding more time to it. Some time is needed of course, but there is a very short limit. Animation however can be improved better and better with more time, with almost no limit.

Pfft, you could spend a ridiculous amount of time learning and dissecting writing and what you wrote so far.
That the effort is not directly correlated to the result doesn't mean you can't spend more time on it for a better result. That is, supposing you have a methodology and don't tackle the task like an aimless artsy fagget.

it was drawn for free, so probably not much

>animators' free time
HEH.
