A girl finds a wounded animal and nurses it back to health. To her surprise, the animal speaks to her. He's actually from the magical world, which has nearly fallen to the dark kingdom's invasion. He tells the girl that the only way to save the magical work is to collect the shards of the magic crystal that powered the magic kingdom's defenses, which was shattered and sent to Earth by an infiltrator from the dark kingdom. However, he's too weak on his own, as agents of the dark kingdom are also trying to collect the shards and thus he needs the girls help to collect them. She agrees and becomes a magical girl. Initially she has great success and defeats the dark kingdom's agents. However, she's soon stopped by a dark magical girl, recruited by the dark kingdom. The mc tries to reason with the girl, but it doesn't work, the dark magical girl insists the mc is being tricked. Convinced the girl is brainwashed, the mc continues to battle her. In the end the MC wins, critically injuring the darl magical girl in the process, revealing she's actually the MC's best friend. As her friend collapses in the MC's arms bleeding, the animal who gave the MC her powers takes all the shards of the crystal and reforms them. At which point he says the MC should have listened to her friend and reveals the magic world invaded the dark kingdom first, adding now they can conquer the dark kingdom and then Earth would be next. He then strips the MC of her powers and leaves her holding the friend she hurt.

A remake of The Warriors but every gang is a group of anime tropes. A gang of lolis, a gang of childhood friends, a gang of hot-blooded rivals, a gang of MCs, etc.

The setting is a feudal Asian fantasy world. The Main Character is a promising student of a supernatural Hokuto Shinken-esque martial art who is training under his wise old mentor to become the next Chosen One or whatever. He is a fine young man, and his master regards him almost as a son. His training is 99% complete, and he practically has the title of Chosen One in his grasp.

But soon, the MC's love interest is killed by a villain and the MC abandons his training and goes on a long quest to avenge her. He slaughters his way through the villain's henchmen and kills his nemesis in a rage. But his vengeful killing spree has proven him unworthy of the title of Chosen One, and his master sorrowfully dismisses him. The MC is stunned, feeling that his master has betrayed and shunned him at his lowest point, and leaves his homeland.

Now jaded and bitter, the MC wanders the Earth, eventually taking up service with a powerful but somewhat unscrupulous Lord in a faraway province, acting as his henchman and training his troops. He initially sees it as just another job, but eventually comes to care somewhat for the people living under the Lord, and begins to take his role as their protector more and more seriously throughout the show. Meanwhile, the old master is training a new student, but is still haunted by the MC's failure. The new student of course is the true Chosen One, and he sets out to defeat evil and spread justice. In his travels, he comes across the MC. They dislike eachother, and the Chosen One dislikes the Lord, but they set aside their differences for the greater good.

The whole story is about how the Chosen One, the Lord, the wise old master, and various other factions react to basically having a renegade 1.0 version of the Chosen One on the loose; and whether or not the MC will decide to become the hero he could've been if he hadn't gone on his quest for revenge. Perhaps the MC crosses a line and the Chosen One decides to fight him, perhaps he comes to respect his Lord for whatever good qualities he has, perhaps the old master tries to convince the MC to return home, perhaps the Lord or some villain wants to use the MC for his own ends.

Basically, it's a story of the hero's renegade anti-heroic rival from the anti-hero's POV. I don't really have too much of anything concrete, so maybe the MC has a different reason to be dismissed by his master--the dead love interest is a pretty cliché anti-hero backstory, I'll admit--and I'm not sure if the Lord should turn out to be evil or just somewhat scummy and antagonistic toward the Chosen One.
