if you're not going to read the manga, just don't even bother. If you're set in your ways, watch the old anime, then the movies. You still won't understand it completely, but at least you'll know the characters somewhat. Really, I'm only saying to watch the movies because of one character the old anime forgets. Without him, you will be extremely confused by the ending of the old anime. I also wouldn't bother with the new series, it's the worst of both of the previous adaptation. It takes the shite CG from the movies and combines it with the skipping of important things from the old anime. Seriously, if you want to experience Berserk, please please please read the manga. If you still won't, then at least don't be surprised when you don't understand online discussion relating to it.

Read the manga and maybe watch the old show. Everything else is a waste of time don't bother. The new TV shows is like finding gangbang porn of your daughter, it's hard to watch without wanting to vomit.

why even watch the anime then you mong, it's not like the shows are going to pull a definite ending out of its ass. If you really want to get into Berserk, definitely watch the 97' anime, because it does a good job of introducing you to the story. If you're looking for more after that, read the manga. You're not missing out on anything with the new series.

Don't bother then. The manga is the source material; the anime adaptations, even the movie trilogy, are just bare adaptations of certain manga arcs.

The movies aren't bad, some CGI is okay and the animation choreography is considerably better, voice acting also improved.

The new series is disappointing due to the fact that the amount of CGI is overwhelming.

If you're not going to read the manga don't bother with Berserk.

We don't need anyone having an opinion on Berserk without actually reading the manga.

My recommendation anon, watch the 1997 series then watch the three movie.

Some will say don't both with the movies but I found them to be okay as supplementary material for a two reasons:
They did some scenes better than in the 1997 series namely the Julius assassination scene.
The second reason is the eclipse during the third movie. Whereas the 1997 anime omitted skull knight, the movie included it. It also didn't make the whole eclipse any less tame, in fact it made it even more brutal.

I still recommend you read the manga though.
