Thunderbolt Fantasy - 03
IT'S REAL DOLL HOURS
EVEN KEN IS AFRAID
Somehow Mr. snow duck
pipe dudehas soo much knowledge on the nest, and also it's history. perhaps he must be the ex owner arcwizard.
he also sounds like a person that would spread rumour on keigai
>tfw threads are too fast
Demon girl probably hates him for getting her in trouble before.
I'm interested to see how he'll get her to join, and even more interested how he'll get the assassin that wants to kill him to join too.
I can already foresee the plot twist
white bishie is a necromancer, and he's also the owner of the tower of the seven sins
and when he gets his possessions back he'll turn on the good guys and conquer the world
It's Taiwanese glove puppetry, and it's the best anime this season.
script for final episode(13) shown to camera from pre-airing special.
Let's see what this show is ab--
THIS IS AMAZING, WHAT WAS HIS PLAN?!
SMOKING AFTER, AMAZING
Ken is great
>TanHi : I have to revenge。。。。。
BetsuTenGai couldn't resist TanHi's attack。。。
>TanHi : Face your death ! I'll avenge aniue with。。。(skill)。。。!
TanHi then uses TanKou's ulti. The attack got parried partially.
>BetsuTenGai (Shou): eh?!
>TanHi : SOKO MADE DA!
TanHi approaches tumbling BetsuTenGai. With whole of her power, she 。。。。. In this alarming moment, BetsuTenGai took the hit with his sword. TanHi 。。。。.
However, from the beginning of this fight, it's all illusion that she's seeing, the man that she fought was actually ShouFuKan.
>BetsuTenGai (Shou) : Hey!? What the fuck happened?!
>TanHi : ANIUE NO KATAKI !
ESL chink here, translating to eng never felt harder, had to leave some phrase in nip for better conveying
What happens if they got bitten by a zombie puppet?
ATM sawano is nothing more than overpriced shit.
His woow oow wooow wooo fits hot blood shit well. But why would you fit "Epic" ost on all these not epic episodic fights, ridiculous over the top.
Also this is a chink fantasy setting
e.g. traditional, it's expected to hear some flute or biba or koto once in a while.
Thanks for that info, didn't really know what it's actually called but I thought the MCs name sounded pretty similar to what was written in the opening. Would make it a whole lot easier for me to remember their actual names instead of giving them nicknames based on their weapon of choice or other traits.
。。。。 is used for unrecognizable blurred words.
it is implied that
TanHi is under illusion by someone and attacked Umbrella dude with ulti
fan theorist dictates that
piper blew the smoke, he might be the last boss
>karate which is McDojo bullshit
The whole story is laid out in the official website. Even the order the allies join the party.
It's a bit too straightforward, but with this pace, they should be fighting the final boss by Episode 10.
Sagacious Swan is highly suspect.
Wouldn't be surprised if he lifted a few elements from his group's games, but then he likes this stuff enough to probably do it of his own accord.
Knowing him, he probably played that dude that beheaded himself in the first episode. When everyone else went 'wut', he was probably forced to reroll into the female necromancer.
This show is so fucking cool. I remember thinking, "what the fuck is this shit?" when I first saw it and the puppets and thought there was no way it could be any good. Then I watched it and had my mind raped by pure awesome.
Is there any more puppet shows that are subbed? Does japan do any or is it mostly a china/taiwan thing?
>mfw /a/ switched from chinese cartoons to taiwanese puppet shows
what the hell happened?
I want to be hypnotized by Rinsetsua's smoke.
There really is no difference between the two. In the end, it's all about overpowered MC's and their party taking on equally overpowered BBEG and their minions, and everything just seems to explode all around them.
There was actually a Japanese dub of pilimany years ago, but just for one season. There was also an American dub many years ago as well, but only
last for one season too and receive badly by fans in Taiwan.
(The Japanese dub)
>What does the finger in the throat do?
The finger operates the mouth. The string going down to the left hand operate the eyelids.
Note that the fingers in the left hand moves, but how it does it is still a trade secret.
>Note that the fingers in the left hand moves, but how it does it is still a trade secret.
I just assumed they have different removable hands like an action figure and change them depending on the scene.
I want to put my thing all the way inside Tanhi. If you know what I mean!
>there's lewd fanart of the dolls
What a time to be alive.
>Note that the fingers in the left hand moves, but how it does it is still a trade secret.
Knowing what I do about animatronic designs I can imagine it's a wire tendon-like setup.
I'm sure aerolas are just fine.
YES YES how can one artist be so perfect
>Is it worth watching?
>This looks fucking amazing.
Nah. It has some QUALITY issues. Major one I notices is that they have problem keeping arm proportions. Either they don't care or fail at fixing it.
Yeah, the torso's frequently seem too close to the ground. There's also the issue of being able to notice a lot of repeated motions, especially with Sho (or whatever his name is. The bearded jerk).
It's quite obviously puppetry, but somehow that fact also makes it seem a lot better than it might otherwise. The production values certainly seem higher than the other clips of older shows I've seen. Aside from maybe the Rock Monster, which is all shitty toku CGI.
In the TRPG Urobuchi played with Nasu and Narita, he played almost the exact character as Betsutengai. Down to stealing his master's stuff and killing him with his own possessions and being a necromancer.
>Sexualize the Tanhi.
She is basically already in a doujin plot. She is homeless, her only protector is dead, and she is seeking aid from complete strangers who are all far more powerful than her. The only reason she hasn't already offered her body to these men is because puppetry can't really do nudity.
I wonder. When this guy dies you can see something flesh coloured beneath his mask but it fades out a bit afterwards.
Thanks to this show, I just found out that puppet shows as a genre isn't some old traditional thing that's being forgotten but has in fact managed to be part of contemporary culture.
Shoufukan is a close second.
As pleb who understands basically no Japanese beyond anime-isms, they seem fine to me. Well, aside from some dumb typos and the obvious problem of the subtitles being the Chinese readings but the VA's using the Japanese readings. Really making me appreciate why the
Pokemon subberskeep all the names Japanese.
Actually, if pili want it , they can actually do it. Older season of the show, before the show became more nationally popular and TV censorship became more strick actually show the sex sence even the puppet back then are not that good looking.
(Don't open this if you're under 18)
With the newer technic and more good looking puppet plus working with Japanese th now,
they could made the sence even more good to look if there is one
>(Don't open this if you're under 18)
admit it, this sub is fucking cancer. Leaving all those name/terms just like that is lazy subbing.
the art of subbing has long lost after fansub's downfall, which i doubt you've ever heard about.
The way the leave "Tian Xing Jian" like that.
"Jian" is literally sword, it should be translated to Tian Xing sowrd, or even Celestial WHAT Sword.
"Xuan Gui Zhong" should have descriptive name that suits The Evil Order or whatever.
"Hu Yin Shi" is definitely intolerable. it's just "Guardian of the Seal" literally, it's not some cryptic word like above.
also, i've watched cr's sub thru kissanime, it's just plain shit ignoring word choice, sentence order and some are > outright wrong.
>which i doubt you've ever heard about.
I may be a pleb, but I've been around long enough to know that.
Luckily TAC is apparently doing their own subs, though they seem to be doing something crazy with the framerate. Not that, being a pleb, I know much about that or why.
I know, it's not really good to look at rught , that is probably why pili never did things like this ever again after the in the later season and after 2000's.
The company want the show becom more artistic and higher standard, so they stop doing things like this, .
The female puppet become more and more pretty though.
>hitting the pipe in a "Well that takes care of it" manner
>How tough is the censorship in Taiwan?
They censored the Evangelion TV opening when you see Rei, Asuka and Misato's naked silhouettes.
Keep in mind that the censorship is about public stations. Cable TV, which is the main source of television now, is less regulated.
>But I find it lazy by the explaination which basically means "but..but.. muh clan rules ."
They had the job of guarding it but was not allowed to use it. It makes sense, if the founders were worried one of their descendants might go power hungry and want to use the sword to conquer the world.
I believe the original dub is in Hokkien
I bet the founders also planned that their descendants will not get killed and have their shit tsken away.
I like this puppet chick , she's so pretty ! Are there anyone who can tell me what is her story and information ?
It's the other way around. Given the setting, Shoufukan's pragmatic thinking makes less sense.
But he's a foreigner who's been through a lot and we'll sure know his backstory in the inevitable flashback episode.
Even the taiwanese seem to prefer the jap dub, but they're ultra weebs so it's not surprising.
Probably a result of how the puppets work but I do notice that arms will suddenly look much longer and have elbows that aren't proportionally correct. Everyone wears robe-like outfits for a reason I guess.
>Also, that "lalala" music that played when they started fighting was really unfitting.
Holy shit, kill yourself, the ost during the action scenes is top notch.
That's the point. It's not even a new thing. A lot of tragedies around this sort of conception of loyalty to a leader, group, or tradition above all else have that tension between the "honorable" thing and sensible one. Choosing the former over the latter is seen a morally righteous and the torque on which the tragedy spins. It's tragic, because they must choose the honorable action even in the face of certain death. Even if the honorable action is certain death.
It's supposed to be kind of stupid, but one's acceptance of it is largely tempered by cultural mores of what honor and duty should be.
Well, considering how overpowered their descendants were, I doubt any of them were able to foresee a guy that can take out all of the other magic weapon's guardians and then use the power of necromancy to steal this one. I mean, I'm sure it has been many generations until this shit happened. Cut them some slack.
I think she's some sort of queen or something,
someone post her story in a Thunderbolt Fantasy thread weeks ago,but i can't remember about it. Anyone remember what that post said ?
She just cover them up, here are the tiddies
>attached to human realm
I bet it is the weather.
Maybe Pipe guy, his father, grandfather, great grandfather, etc, tried to roll seduce on her multi times and she got pissed.
>what is this pipe human seriously smoking??
White haired characters are always the antagonists in Urobuchi works but I'm pretty sure he and Shoufukan will survive, Tanhi will most likely die or get a fate worse than death.
I got the picture from older thread.
Which one do you guys think is prettier,
Her or this one ?
>it still looks more natural than berserks cgi somehow
>Even the taiwanese seem to prefer the jap dub
Probably because Japanese dub has actual cast. Original Min-Nan dub is litteraly voiced just by this dude (who voices all male characters) and two women (who voices Tanhi and Ryoumi).
read the Chinese of manga chap 1, it was really pale in comparison
It's a tradition and it's always been done that way, so it's something Taiwanese people are used to.
Something counter to tradition which a lot of people were against, was Tanhi's design, ironically they thought she looked like a doll. Even the chairman of Pili was against it, but Butcher insisted on her design.
>Original Min-Nan dub is litteraly voiced just by this dud
The issue isn't that there is only one male, but that he is the son of the guy who had been doing the voices for years. He was never going to be as good as his far more experienced father.
Even China hates Windows Update.
Literally it's nothing I haven't seen a dozen times before in Kung Fu flicks but because it's Urobuchi instant A+ and here's so more reasons why I think Gen Urobuchi is the most awesome the end. Feels like reading a Grade 4 students book report assignment.
Their new stock of reviewers make the old ones like Chris Beverage, Carlo Santos, Carl Kimlinger etc look downright professional. The female ones are especially awful and might as well be writing blogs as opposed to stuff for a commercial site that likes to bill itself as an authority on things. All of them always felt like they've made up their minds on things based on what the sites sponsors have told them to say about them or because of childish biases but at least some of them could kind of spin it all with half decent prose unlike a Hope Chapman or Nick Creamer. Now it's just kind of transparent and that's apparently okay cause anime and low standards and all.
Also I know /a/ maintains that ANN should never be mentioned around here but I maintain that it's okay as long as it's laughing about what massive sell outs and terrible columnists the staff all are. Zac Bertschy's really scrapping the bottom of the barrel with his current team.
I think the female ones think they're writing on their own tumblr. It's all just probably copy pasted from there and Zac approves it because he just doesn't care anymore and can't be seen to look discriminatory against women somehow since he's chosen to run with the whole SJW thing.
I like the part where they took days after the first ep was out to add the show to their encyclopaedia despite reporting its existence for months - and when they finally added it they created a whole new category for 'puppet TV' because there's the risk a TV anime with the exact same title could be confused with it.
You should try reading the Kekkai Sensen reviews they did. Fucking masterpieces of literature analysis homework.
>he reads anime reviews
I sure hope you don't do this
dammit that sounds really cool
japan should get on that whole power rangers thing, seems like it would fit them
>not snow white being mastermind as fuck
jesus christ what the fuck? ebin :DD
So butcher is an SMT fan too, I take it
Was she the one tasked with writing reviews for Muv Luv Schwarzmarken that was completely and utterly oblivious to the fact that East Germany actually existed and wasn't just something the show made up for an alternate history kind of thing and then got called on it by several readers only to get defensive and have Zac defend her even though he should know better? I'm always amused by the feeling of knowing for a fact that I'm more knowledgeable and experienced in things anime reviewers are trying to write about and could probably do their job a lot better.
Well the thing is the publisher for it is a major ANN site sponsor so no doubt they'll bend over backwards to create a new category for it if asked. The hilarious thing is there's never going to be another show in this category ever again unless Gen Urobuchi does it because that's literally the sole reason anybody gives a shit about this enough to be inclusive with it on this seasons anime lineup. If it didn't have him and some other Japanese writer and team instead nobody would be bending over backwards to praise and accommodate this show because nobody outside of Taiwan would even be watching it instead of almost nobody.
They're kind of funny when they're done this bad and blogger like. It's not like I take them seriously like the average ANN site goer does. You're telling me you've never read an ANN review for shits and giggles? Hope Chapman and Nick Creamer are flat out comedy gold.
>not giving her a fancy poem to go with this
I just haven't into anime reviews at all. I don't like any reviews in general and the only reviews I've used are for games so I can see the gameplay and then I close it.
>they thought she looked like a doll
I guess this is close enough.
Poor urobutcher, no one cares about his taiwanese dolls. To think he survived the earthquake for this.
All the ones that gave it 5 stars on the first episode preview thing couldn't even make it out of the first sentence before slobbering about Gen Urobuchi. The ones that didn't give it instant perfect scores didn't even mention him once and were actually almost decently helpful and informative reviews that just covered the expected points without any sort of sensationalism and tabloid column style buzzwords. It's pretty funny and about as blatant as you can get.
oh fuck there wasn't a chuuni poem this episode
I guess they would get annoying if it was ever episode
like I would watch xianxia
I'll stick to my wuxia
I can't handle something that unrealistic
I can't be the only one who thinks Ken/Juǎn is literally Vanilla from Votoms.
I can understand because so many of them are just flat out terrible since anime fans really aren't good at setting aside their bullshit for the 15 minutes or so it'd take to type up a passable, insightful and informative one. Many are just seeking drama and attention for themselves by doing it more than anything else.
Taiwan does but then that's home base for Pili. They'll always have an audience there. Using Urobuchi and Sawano (again) to sell the show in Japan is a valid strategy but he openly admits that he's just doing this as a personal project and because it's fun for him and that's it and Sawano is just bland as shit at this point with his soundtracks so it looks like it only goes so far.
Gaim had a law and chaos hero. The neutral MC dukes it out in a final battle with the chaos hero, both leading their own army of monsters.
They'll only do the poem for important scenes, not getting the poem this early is actually a good thing. Ken pretty much confirmed to outlive his aniki.
Just watched first episode. This is the second best thing this season, right after Love Live Sunshine.
The only thing that makes this worth while at all are the puppets. Without it, you're left with another subpar anime/manga that's too stupid to even bother with. The puppets make it different, the puppets let you know it's silly and to leave your mind at the door, the puppets are unique to us at least.
its amasing how much skin pili can let their puppet show for fanservice
her pvc figure
I just imagine his backstory being something along the lines of him just wanting to go visit his family after all his travels, but then he got dragged into all this.
All his adventures and experience trained his swordsmanship, nothing tragic or grimdark happened, and his home and regular family are just on the other side of the evil big bad's tower.
Oh yeah. ANN reviews liked to fellate Urobuchi so much. Maybe they're actually Nitroplus shills.
I remember some ANN shitter said Nasu is a misogynist because of how Rin was treated in UBW. But she said she liked Zero, even though female characters were all treated like fucking trash there and Saber got figuratively raped by almost all the major male characters.
Starts off by saying
>Thunderbolt Fantasy continues to be an exquisitely executed pile of clichés. Besides the puppets, this show doesn't contain a single thing that I haven't already seen 100 times over, but I still marvel as the excellence of its construction.
>He also has a gift for noticing and making use of tropes in stories that many other writers would have never considered. [... ...] This is an excellent point, revealing how Dān Fěi's thoughtless adherence to tradition (which treats the Heaven's Retribution Sword as untouchable) acted against her.
What the shit? Characters adhering to tradition and being called out on it isn't even new. It's not even an wuxia thing, anime has done it too. Way to contradict in the stupidest way ever.
I know ANN reviewers are full of shit but I just can't stop myself after seeing that part.
I just watched three episodes of chinese dolls and i liked it
Seductive puppet girl are the best puppet girl
I find this new character is quite badass.(that music when he shows his power)
He has golden armor and a spear and his fight sence are quite cool.
because you are faggot and certain thing need to take refuge on certain board. /tv/ is not going to take this shit and /jp/ is a containment board. /a/ is the best board for this show.
Just ignore him.
I bet he's one of those chinkposters who are salty that every time they start a thread about the literal chink cartoons, the threads get shit on while a Taiwanese puppet show gets favourable treatment.
This question has being in my mind ever since Thunderbolt first started airing.
Did western audience
ever thought that puppet can do all these action fighting seance before seeing this show? what does western audience generally think of puppet show before seeing this?
The puppetry most westerns are familiar with is muppets. Which, incidentally, function much like the puppets here do, being manipulated from below rather than above with strings, Pinocchio style. Obviously, it's nowhere near as actiony or as a refined as the puppetry here.
The most actiony Puppets have ever gotten in the West, to my knowledge anyway, was Team America. And there, the entire thing was explicitly a joke about how silly their terrible puppetry was for action scenes.
The closest western Puppetry most are probably familiar with is probably the Dark Crystal, done by the same guy who started the Muppets. It's been so long I don't recall how good the puppetry was or what kind. I remember it being pretty good and it was probably done like the muppets, but with higher production values. It was also an adventure movie, and while it had action, it wasn't the kind of heavily martial arts focused affair Thunderbolt Fantasy is.
I'd say this would probably be many western /a/ goers first encounter with a puppet show of this caliber. For most Westerns, puppets are even more kiddy than cartoons, with most the most famous being aimed explicitly at younger children. There is also absolutely no puppet media for adults outside of the family oriented Muppet Show, and one offs like Team America where, again, the "adult action movie done with puppets" is the joke. Or Anomalisa, which was just a modern character drama using puppets, and was stop motion as well.
There's really not many shows using puppets these days, let alone any action shows with puppets. I wouldn't think it would work out if I was just told about it and didn't see it for myself how smooth it can look.
I find it really fascinating how some of their gestures and tics makes them seem more alive and how some of the action can immerse me enough into forgetting it's people controlling them with their hands.
Puppet shows are mostly associated with children shows, and due to their limitation I doubt anyone would have thought they can be capable of complex movement.
Puppetry in the west hasn't evolved or changed much, which is why westerners think it's antiquated. They get around that by not taking the material seriously and just being fun.
Pili evolved puppetry in order to attract a new audience while still treating the material seriously. Which is interesting. It might be the best way to keep culture alive.
Pic related sort of counts as well, I guess.
At least she's not completely flat.
i just found this girl's music mv,she's so pretty,
and it appear that she's an archer too.
other than the action, i'am also amaze how smooth the female puppets move when they are in the romantic sequence or just to show their feminine
You guys just let me start thinking and can't get rid of this idea that what will be like if pili help to do ( co-produce) and upgrade The Muppet and the Sesame street.
I thought this was a literal chinese puppet show with just urobushi writing so why the credits shows Butcher and a lot of Nitro+ guys being directly involved?
Anyway I watched the first 3 episodes and it was amazing, I did NOT expect this at all, it's really solid.
bigger picture and another one of his fight scene
i really like his badass battle music
I didn't even know this genre was even really a thing before watching TBF. I'm really impressed, it's really to see what a lot of dedication can produce through such a medium. I should really get around to watching that prologue documentary.
Why the fuck has only one person called out this fucking retard?
Where the fuck do you think power rangers came from? I cannot believe how fucking pleb you people are
Why make fun of ANN when you're just as ignorant?
Fuck this board
Western puppet are actually very cool too just like eastern puppet. I think it's the culture and direction difference . It appears to me that western
puppet are better (and prefer) on making non humen creature like puppet and focus alot on facial expressions but less handsome and pretty while eastern puppetare better(and prefer) on making humen looking doll(puppet) with less facial expressions but many body language and usually more handsome and pretty looking.
There was actually a Taiwanese puppet show like this airing on Toonami at some point. I think it was called Wulin Warriors. I though it looked interesting, but it was cancelled after a few weeks due to poor ratings and complaints.
TBF's puppets look more beautiful in comparison.
>ever thought that puppet can do all these action fighting seance before seeing this show?
I only really expected this level of fight scene choreography from stop motion when dealing with puppets.
>what does western audience generally think of puppet show before seeing this?
I'd assume that most westerners are more familiar with Muppets, Sesame Street, Between the Lions, etc styles of puppet shows. On the other hand People also have seen shows like Thunderbirds and it's derivatives so that's something else to add to the western pile.
I would agree that Western Style puppets seem to lean towards expressive faces. The bodies also tend to be pretty immobile with arms being controlled by sticks from underneath.
Between the Pili shows I've been watching, and the few japanese puppettry example I could find it seems like they lean towards expressive bodies with static faces.
There's probably some overlap here but since Western puppets usually have a whole hand controlling just the mouth, and Eastern puppets dedicate the hand to controlling the arms and head direction is really informs what each style is going to emphasize.
Still amazes me how far we've come.
>There was actually a Taiwanese puppet show like this airing on Toonami at some point. I think it was called Wulin Warriors. I though it looked interesting, but it was cancelled after a few weeks due to poor ratings and complaints.
The main issue is that the original script was thrown out and the entire thing edited with gags like it is an unholy union of robot chicken and Robotech.
Wulin warriors is a 4kids adaptation of one of the Pili series.
TBF at first was going to be a Pili spin-off but they decided against that and made it its own thing.
>Wulin warriors is a 4kids adaptation of one of the Pili series.
More like butchering. One of the characters in the 4kids version was constantly made fun of for not speaking. But in the original it was because he had his tongue cut off. As I say, it was Robotech-grade murder of source material.
People getting murdered and shit in gory puppet action, so yeah. I want to fuck a doll.
She is one of a heroine in two of the seasons of pili puppet show in Taiwan,
who was originally a demon goddess alongside with two of her"brothers(who the three can combine into one powerful demon god) "but turn good after loosing her memory and still want to stay good after regain her memory
Hare is her video
The other two men on the photo are her
and this is their combine form, which have three face for each on of them
Regardless of the sales I'm going to be mad if he does shows about little girls again
I have nothing against with Madoka or Gargantia but Urobuchi can do so much more with anime.
Madoka and Gargantia aren't one of those Urobuchi original projects. With those works, he gets an offer for a certain type of show and writes the scripts around that. It's not like in TBF where he handles pretty much every aspect of production. He's always on the set, like a director.
>I'm always amused by the feeling of knowing for a fact that I'm more knowledgeable and experienced in things anime reviewers are trying to write about and could probably do their job a lot better.
I wonder how much they're paid.
Who is the good guy and who is the bad guy in these videos ? the golden guy is the hero or not? what do you guys think.
I 'cant understand the songs, but i still get hype everytime when watching these op songs someone pose on the older thread
I wonder if there are anybody think and fell the same.
Can you guys tell who may be the bad guys and who are the heros in these oping songs ?
Chinese shit is out of control
Any of those stories would make great trainwreck anime.
It was the same TRPG session, but they didn't adapt the events like they happened. They also genderbent his character. I guess it's why they named the anime Chaos dragon instead of Red dragon.
