The point is CR gets the original script for the entire episode, meaning they have the ability to translate far more fluently than Asenshi can having to listen line-by-line. But they don't, they mistranslated, they localize atrociously, and they insert literal meme dialog in place of valid translation. And at who's expense?- people pay for these subs, they're supposed to be "professional", not half-assed. And even if you don't, just watching them is doing a disservice to yourself and the show. Fansubbing efforts are always appreciated in that regard, if you ask me.

Am I the only one who is preferring this to Aria? I've only watched the anime of both so I'm not talking about the manga.

I like how Amanchu focuses more on its characters than Aria, it feels more intimate. Its art style is better and I prefer Amanchu's soundtrack too, even though both OSTs are great. Aria feels a bit too childish compared to this and its characters feel a little too idealized and unidimensional.

I'm glad Amanchu seems to be doing well commercially, I hope it gets more seasons in the future like Aria.

For me, it's like Aria focused more on the interactions with their clients/other people in it's huge cast, which is not a bad thing (I love it, actually).
Amanchu goes towards the main character and their interactions, with a small cast of characters, which is also very nice.

I can't tell you which one I prefer, honestly, having read both manga, but I'd say that this is the difference between them.

I dunno, I don't think I have a preference between the two. Amanchu is more about the characters, while Aria is more about the world and the iyashikei. I can tell you that Amanchu has grabbed me more immediately than Aria did, I didn't really get into Aria until the bridge episode which was like ten eps in. Amanchu seems like it's easier to get into just because the characters are a little more investing.

I think the best way to describe the difference is by first of all stating that Pikari and Akari are basically the same character. They're both totems of happiness, infinitely optimistic and enjoying their lives no matter what happens. The big difference is that in Aria Akari is the lead, while in Amanchu Teko is the lead.

Teko is our avatar in this story (the "self-insert" in the parlance /a/ insists on). Hers is the character which differentiates the two shows. As a character she is immediately defined by her doubt, her fear, her anxiety, and the story (of the episodes so far anyway) has been about Pikari helping her push through that anxiety, leading her by the nose into a life of happiness and friendship. The two of them have a very clear and distinct (if fairly cliche) relationship as characters, and the show is largely about that relationship and Teko's arc.

That sort of relationship didn't really exist in Aria. None of the characters ever had real emotional struggles to the degree Teko does, and if they did then they weren't a central element of the story. Akari and all of the other characters were utilized to illustrate different sort of philosophies on life, and they learned from each other from time to time, but it was all fairly abstract. The show was a lot more about theme: friendship, iyashikei, mono no aware, etc.

I suspect Amano ended the manga when her white cat named Aria passed away. It was volume 11 (out of 12) when she made the announcement. There was nothing suggesting the end of the series until the last chapter of vol 11 and the entirety of vol 12.

Equalizing your ears under normal pressure helps them open up at depth (until you've been regularly equalizing the eustachian tubes there can be some issues in doing so) and provides practice in doing it. It's going to take a long time before I can compare Amanchu and Aria. Aria grew on me so much while I was watching it, it was such a slow build. I will say that if I was comparing the first three episodes of both anime, I would probably prefer Amanchu.

But Amanchu has its work cut out for it if it wants to rise to the level of Aria. I just loved the world-building in Aria too much, and Amanchu is lacking that since it just takes place on Earth.
