Confusing.
Mostly because of how intermittent translations are, but that doesn't change how hard it is to follow the story.

I can't remember what happens in the last 3rd of this manga. Something about kaiman is actually the leader of the cross eyes, but then there's another Kaiman? Started getting Airgear-levels of confusion when reading it, though I partially blame that on the fact that it would go for months without any new chapters.

It's not that confusing, Kaiman had a bad case of split personality resulting from him being immersed in the mud back when he was Ai. During some times of the day he's Aikawa, Ritsu's friend but during other times he's Kai, the inhuman leader of the cross eyes.

It's not that confusing.

Kaiman was a kid named Ai who wanted magical powers, the kid was a bit of a prodigy and worked with a doctor on figuring out how to get those magical powers via the devils in magic caster heads. The kid dies, and gets buried next to the Hole.

There's some ancient evil in the hole, which possesses the corpse of the kid and resurrects him, makes him its avatar. Kid changes his name to Aikawa and lives out his days as a pretty friendly fellow, but is occasionally possessed by the Hole. When possessed he's the Cross Eye's boss.

Aikawa's friend Riku has a unique curse ability which piques the Hole's interest, the Hole decides to take the ability but in doing so activates the curse. He tries to get the fuck out of there, but doesn't manage to escape, in the resulting scuffle a bunch of bottles containing that magical gas stuff break. This causes his head to change to that of a lizard and he loses all his memories. That's when the series starts.

It's been having an ending for quite some time, who knows how many volumes it'll take at this rate considering it was years ago when the author originally said it only had one volume left before realizing that there was no way to finish it in that little.
