I went to the Japan Expo in Paris and both the episode and the OP was fukken great - the OP animations were, according to the anime director, created by a single French dude. They weren't the best I've seen, but original enough.

While I see no problem with the anime - VA, direction, chara design were all on point - the biggest disappointment was Hirano himself.

Holy shit, he's literally a ball with clothing and chubby short limbs.
Generally I try not to judge from one's look, but seeing him like that honestly made me wonder about his health.

But the absolute disappointment was his UTTER lack of interest and partecipation - pretty much as soon as he came up on stage, he told the interviewer he wanted a shorter interview because he didn't feel like it.

Most of the time it was his editor (who had the biggest typical fake Japanese "excitement" I've ever seen) or the anime director talking. He literally said nothing, and mid interview I'm 85% sure he started dozing off, as he was lightly swaying back and forth and didn't answer 2 questions.

Fairy Tail might be utter shit and Mashima a hack writer, but fuck it, I have no shame in admitting that I fucking enjoyed every moment he was on stage during the "drawing battle" with a French mangaka (Reno La-something..). Energetic, self-ironic about his manga (saying fanservice is one of the biggest quality of it, and then joking about nakama power) and entertaining.

I've seen and met quite a few mangaka this past few years, from Inio Asano, Masasumi Kakizaki, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Masakazu Katsura and others... some were extremely reserved and often answered with literally 2 words, but at least they didn't fucking doze off in front of the audience.

What a disappointment anons... Hopefully the animu will fill the space that Hirano's impression left me.

Sorry for the blog, stay hyped for the anime, as it's great in my opinion.

There are many mangaka that do, and they're nowhere near as spent nor lazy. From shounen to seinen, I've never seen someone like that.

Like I said, there were few mangaka that often answered with a yes or no, but never fucking fell asleep on stage.
