It's shit. Anime was the best at cyberpunk sci-fi. But it was rather a short period of time. In general anime isn't really good at anything.

I severely dislike fantasy anime, with a few exceptions like overlord. It's really the only medium that can give mecha justice. I for one also love sports anime but that's just me

i think SOL is pretty good. but i also think the reason it is so popular right now is because everyone is burned out on the more popular genres. You can only watch so much mechs, explosions, and sword fights before you get sick of it.

So SOL is like something simple and enjoyable to watch. I think its a great genre, its somewhere around number 2 on my list, but the problem for me is i just started watching SOL with Flying Witch so maybe the hype hasn't worn off yet.

I've always liked volleyball and after watching haikyuu it just made me sad my high school didn't have a boys volleyball team, cause I would've played the shit out of that.

What I could never understand is why ADHD kiddies get 'bored' when the pacing of their anime isn't going at breakneck speed.

I would much rather have an anime that spends the first two, or so episodes settling you into the characters before doing anything on a grander scale. That spent time and care on the small details.

Anime that do too much in a short a time just leave me feeling disoriented and frustrated.

There is a lot of overlap between them, but that's not true. CGDCT has been around forever (Gall Force, BGC, etc), it's just what people considered cute went from space murder and piloting mecha to more benign things.

Dramatic stories, well built worlds, interesting action, and thought provoking subjects are all better handled in different mediums. Cute idealizations of girls is really all anime has. It makes sense CGDCT SOL anime, pure distilled cute girl is the best genre.

I like shows like Haibane Renmei and Aria far more than NNB or Yuru Yuri

For me, the world building does it for me. Seeing other people tackle the mundane in their weird, different world makes the setting come alive. Also I'd much rather see at least something resembling characters than just blatant archetypes of characters. Comedy should exist, but it's best if it strengthen the characters and the world.

Anime should play into it's strengths, by offering us a world where it's only limit is the imagination of the studio. When I think about it, actually, most of my favorite shows aren't about a boy/girl in a Japanese school.

So basically, I like slice of a life rather than slice of life.

I watch plenty of genres, but I still find SoL and comedy anime to be the most entertaining.
