It premiered in animexpo exclusively, won't be out for ages because it doesn't even open in Japan until August 16th or so

For what it's worth anon, it's a wonderful movie and seeing it later will be just as exciting. just try to dodge spoilers until then.

The actual actual plot:

A boy falls in wakes up a girl.

Unable to talk, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's body. Never minding the strange situation, he immediately tries to make her life better, and is overjoyed to find out that she has as well.

But, the next day, when he tries to remember the girl, she only shouts at him in the deepest corner of his mind. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he was lived in a town destroyed by a comet. In fact, she died in the disaster three years ago. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own three years in the future self, whose three year ago self is blissfully unaware of her crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to perform a terrorist attack in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to save the girl's life and hometown. While the two chase this ultimate goal, AMNESIA ensues as they begin to forget they fell in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

But some day in the future, they don't each other in the streets of Tokyo, and ask each other a question...

The story begins as you'd expect, with typical awkward body swap shenanigans. Every once in a while the two protagonists will wake up in each other's bodies.
However, the two of them only remember their bodyswaps as very faint dreams, so they initially assume they're just forgetting what they did the other day instead. Only after they begin writing messages to each other during the bodyswaps do they start remembering their experiences in each other's bodies more clearly and begin communicating by writing journals.
The girl finds out he has a crush on his senpai at work, and begins making romantic advances on his senpai for her him, eventually setting up a date for him. However, the date goes south because the senpai was in love with his other personality (the girl), who she found much more entrancing. Dejected about his disastrous date, he decides to try calling the girl for the first time, but finds that his call won't go through. He soon also discovers that the bodyswaps have stopped completely.
Eventually he decides to meet the girl in person for the first time, and calls in absent at both work and school to go on a journey to the countryside to attempt to find the town she lives in, with only sketches of the landmarks he remembers to go off of. His senpai and best friend stalk him to the station and insist on coming along because they were worried about him. Eventually, after a long journey, he finds one man who recognizes the landscape he had sketched. However, a shocking truth awaits him.
The town was destroyed three years ago in a meteorological disaster. As soon as he realizes this, he finds that the journals the girl wrote in his phone are quickly disappearing from existence, as are his own memories of her and his experiences in her body as well. As the amnesia sweeps over him, he becomes extremely distraught that he can't remember something that he feels should've been extremely precious to him: that girl's name.

As he stares at the mysterious braided cord on his wrist, his memories suddenly flood back to him. This braided cord was given to him three years ago by the girl, but because he hadn't started body swapping with her yet, he had no idea who she was. He realizes that the body swaps happened over an expanse of three years, and his experiences in the girl's body happened three years ago. He recalls one of his last memories in the girl's body, when he visited the shrine of the local god with her grandmother and little sister, located at the center of a crater created over a thousand years ago. The grandmother told the two of them that the sake they were offering up as a sacrifice were half of their souls, required for them to enter the underworld. The boy quickly travels to the crater and finds that not only is the shrine still there, but so is the sake he had placed there while in the girl's body. Remarking that this sake contained part of the girl's soul, he pours some and drinks it in preparation to enter the underworld. However, he suddenly slips soon after and strikes his head.

He then wakes up once more in the girl's body and realizes it's on the last day of her life. He quickly begins to plea with the townspeople, including the girl's father, the mayor, to escape the area to avoid the ensuing disaster, but they just thinks he's speaking nonsense. Faced with no other choice, he stages a plan with the only two people who believe him, the girl's best friends. They plan on staging a terrorist attack on the power plant and broadcasting a fake emergency evacuation announcement to save everyone from the comet. The boy, however, suddenly gets a strange feeling and makes his way to the crater where the shrine was. Three years in the future, the girl wakes up in the boy's body to the sight of her destroyed town. The two suddenly hear each other's voices but are unable to see each other, until the sun passes the horizon and twilight falls on the crate.

The twilight creates a miracle and let's them meet each other in the crater for the first time. The boy informs her of the plan he had hatched in her body and tells her that she must save her town and live on. He returns the corded braid she gave to him three years ago. They then write their names on each other's palms so they do not forget a second time, but before the girl can write her name, the twilight ends and the boy is left alone in the crater in his own body.
The girl, back in her own body, successfully carries out the plan with her friends. However, before the townspeople can evacuate fully, her father catches on to their actions and stops their broadcast, telling the townspeople to stay where they are. The girl then runs to the town hall, intent on doing what the boy was unable to and convince her father to issue a genuine evacuation order. She becomes distraught when she starts forgetting the boy's name, however, and slips on a hill, falling to the ground. She then glimpses what the boy wrote on her hand. "I love you." Laughing how she really won't be able to remember his name now, she rises again and runs to town hall with renewed vigor to face her father.

Three years in the future, the boy awakes, having completely forgotten why he had journeyed to that crater in the first place. He goes through the next five years of his life with a nagging feeling in his chest, constantly searching for something he has forgotten.

During his daily commutes, he begins to catch glimpses of a girl with a corded braid in her hair, but barely misses meeting her each time. He also recalls how the crater he had visited once was located near a town destroyed by a comet. However, the townspeople had evacuated successfully due to a "miraculous coincidence".

Eventually they finally reunite on a staircase, unable to remember anything about each other but having a painfully nostalgic feeling in their chest. They then ask each other a question.

"Your name?"

>>

At least it's implied that they're still in love and reunited. It ain't no Five Centimeters per Second. There's nothing stopping them from engaging in passionate lovemaking that very night.

Seriously the moment they catch a glimpse of each other's faces on the metro they drop everything they're doing, run out of the station, and search for each other until they reunite.

And yes, it's very pretty, and has a lot of dynamic animation unlike Garden of Words which was a lot of sitting around.
