If she's stupid, why did she get a 100 on her test? And how did she learn guitar so quickly?
She's an autistic savant. She's like that guy who painted the New York skyline from memory.
Lain and Rei are the only two valid answers, but then again valid answers probably wasn't the point of this thread.
People been saying lately that there are no autistic characters on anime =(
Lain managed to make friends, she just got fucked by her split personality, and she isn't even human to begin with, she had to deal with other kind of problems, her "autism" was just a stage on her evolution.
Yui can't be autistic. She likes contact and hugs way too much. She's too friendly.
The signs fit like a glove to Jotaro.
>Can play live in less than a year
>Beats Mio on the final exams on her own
>Can reproduced a song after she listen to it once
>Plays well enough to amaze the daughter of two professional musicians
>Admited in a prestigious college
I don't know what you hate her so much anon. I mean I don't like her that much either but is proved over and over that as she can surpass the other girls when she actually tries. She is cert any not normal, she as ADD and is kind of autistic but retarded? Nah.
>not wanting to cuddle with their waifus
>inappropriate laughing or giggling
>no real fear of dangers
>may avoid eye contact
>difficulty in expressing needs; May use gestures
>echoes words or phrases
>insistence on sameness
>spins objects or self
>Yui can't be autistic. She likes contact and hugs way too much
But unfortunately this is a lost cause, since at this point everyone is using the word "autistic" as a synonym of "retarded" or "crazy".
In truth autism's mental retardation is just a collateral consequence of the absence of abilities to relate to other people and other people's emotions.
pic related: She simply cannot be autistic because her ability to understand people's hearts is actually above average.
Assburgers at least.
>Lain managed to make friends
Only by being dragged along to everything for the course of the show. I don't know, to me it seemed like they made a checklist of personality traits for her to make sure she came across as autistic.
Sawako from Kimi ni Todoke
Besides the obvious, there are also more subtle things like her collapse at the party, and she seems to develop an obsession with ghost stories that's kept in the background. Her father also seems pretty autistic, so she probably got it from him.
>bad at social cues
>inappropriate angry outbursts
>over-attachment to objects (his hat, his jacket)
>asexual, doesn't perceive flirting
>repeats phrases over and over
You wouldn't be wrong there, I'm legit autismal but high functioning.
>She likes contact and hugs way too much
I've actually been diagnosed with high-functioning Asperger's since 4. For the most part, I'm fine with hugs, especially if it's someone I like. If a stranger hugged me, it would be extremely uncomfortable, but when I'm happy I like to hug friends of mine,
especially of the opposite sex. That said, for the first few years of my life, I was very particular about how I was hugged by my parents, (what sort of angle and the tightness).
So liking hugs is not something that disqualifies you from being Autistic.
>Posting on /a/
>Not proof of autism
But I've consequently done my research on my ailment and about the history of the diagnosis, and those who likely had it (Cavendish and Turing in particular) from Asperger and Kanner's classifications at the same time on opposite sides of the Atlantic, why Kanner's interpretation was successful and retarded the treatment of those with autism for half a century, as well as the cultural uplifting effect that Rain-Man had on autism awareness, around about the same time Temple Grandin started to campaign for neurodiversity. I know it's pretty shitty proof to just ramble about your knowledge of the syndrome, but I'm well versed in the history of autism, not to mention having gone through the state support system for assistant teachers and the like.
