I still find it odd that people lump all of synchro dimension together as shit when there was a lot more memorable stuff in the latter half of it than in almost all of standard, and at worst the earlier stuff in the arc was about on the level of Pre-Maiami in terms of quality, but I'd still argue better than the Michie or Quiz duels.

Actually Zexal writing wasn't nearly as bad as the other shows before it. Kaiba had no business being in the memory world arc but the studio didn't a fuck because Kaiba printed money and Kaz was high on painkillers. GX went to complete what the hell are they doing, tier in season 2 beginning with Judai's first defeat at the hands of Edo and didn't look back at all and 5D's post Dark Signers was basically a completely different show with barely any plot and GX season 2 level of filler and nonsense. Yilaster felt like the boring mooks of the Doma arc. Both those shows suffered from horrible inconsistent writing far more than Zexal. The only thing in Zexal that was dropped was the rest of the cards Vector tricked Yuma into keeping in his deck and how exactly a human boy ended being half a number.

Zexal also deus ex machina'd a happy ending, made Shark flip flop from BARIANS REEEEEE to MUH COMRADES REEEEEEE in like four episodes without any real foreshadowing to build it up, made Yuma nearly incapable of losing by design (because astral disappearing if he loses and shit) and therefore removed any and all tension from Yuma duels, spent countless episodes on establishing completely worthless cheerleaders but not really developing any of them more than necessary so they could efficiently sit in the background and watch plot shit happen; all of which led to their collective crowning moment of jobbing to ZA SEVENTH ONE.

Also, there's like 7 episodes of plot relevant content in the first 40 episodes of zexal, so all of the above is worse in the sense that they could have used any of that additional time to develop characters or maybe establish credibility for people other than Kaito, Shark, and the Arclights, but they never do. I feel like synchro's an arc that'll get vindicated on a rewatch. I feel the content there is fairly consistent with what we had in standard, quality-wise, but jumping into another tournament arc with 10 eps of hotels and foreshadowing from 65-75 is a really bitter pill to swallow watching it week by week.

There are 3 slots after Dark Requiem. I'm predicting a Raidraptor, a Phantom knight and an OCG card, 4 slots after Venom Dragon so those two amazoness fusions and 2 OCGs probably that fusion archetype from last set and another existing one, probably Red Eyes. Synchro has 5, the largest in the set, so Enjoy's last Cardian, Crow's Kusanagi and Yugo's new Hi-Speedroid and probably 2 OCG archetypes. Allen will probably play an old archetype like Sayaka, probably the Gagaga's since Gagaga Samurai has an effect that protects other monsters from being attacked and that's exactly what Allen will do, Trains don't fit for something like that. Interested in what the OCG ritual will be this time.
