Serious answer: when English was first put into the Latin alphabet, C was only used for K sounds (unless an i or e was nearby, in which case it could become a CH sound, such as cild->child, or ciric->church), and S was only used for S sounds. The Normans were using C for S and K sounds because they were Frenchified Viking fagets, and ruined everything. Our spelling system has been fucked ever since.
