I wasn't really expecting much from this ep. But, fuck. I was amazed by how much I enjoyed it. I never expected them to actually take a full ep to round out Shun's development. Easily one of my favorite eps of the series.

Legacy characters are just a mess in their philosophies. They're extremely forced and it's jarring to have to deal with them in what should have been a stand-alone series.

He did. He started trusting them by accepting the pendulum cards in 49. He questioned them in 53. He was distrustful as shit regarding Dennis in 58. He showed concern for Gon's survival in 62 but was still very solitary. He unveiled Dennis's shit and went full RU-REEEEEEE in 74-75. He continued to be paranoid until partway through 82 where he comments that the circumstances of the duel helped him remember what he was fighting for (which he monologued earlier to Sora in 33-34). He was still fairly solitary in 90, although trusted the lancers who were there (the ones who fought at his side in Standard) enough to help them out (and remember, in addition to this, he reluctantly did agree ON SCREEN to the plan to gain allies in Synchro dimension, as such helping restore order to the city is in line with that) and finally after the Yuya/Jack duel (as of now in 105) he admits he has come to consider them his comrades.

It's character development provided piecemeal, which makes it harder to swallow watching the show week-by-week, but it is a solid character arc for the most part.

DSOD has only 137 theaters. That's a big red flag right there that expectations aren't terribly high and NAS/TVTOKYO/Konami don't expect tons of people to watch it. It's basically expected to do as well as a late-night anime movie.

Meanwhile, everything else it was competing against (Disney Zootopia shit, Captain America, Detective Conan, Shin-chan, etc) have upwards of 300 theaters and they're WAY more mainstream than YGO. YGO has never done well at movie theaters. PoL didn't do that well and neither did BBT. The 300 theaters those movies have are more than double what DSOD has so of course statistically speaking those movies would make more money just because there are more theaters showing it.

It's astounding how despite that the movie has stayed in the top 10 for 3 weeks and it's looking at it again in week 4.

I only have Utopic Future in it since Yuma's ace is that and Utopia and it's forms all belong to Astral so I didn't have access to the almighty Lighting.

In fact, If you were to run a Yuma/Astral deck that focused on Utopia forms vs any of the strongest incarnation of Heroes,Junk Stardust and Performapal, it would win, This thing can shit all over Yugi's magicians as well because it negates their attack drain and special summon gimmick making the deck completely helpless against it unless you summoned Dark Magician and got Thousand Knives or Dark Magician Girl and got Dark Burning on it. Hell, Crystal Wing and Dark Requiem can't even beat it.

He's not OP, he's a pretty balanced card since the only thing he's good for is being an out to annoying BP effects and taking out stuff immune to effects.

Hell yeah, it's over powered, you can negate your opponents card effects, swing with a 5000 attack monster and all they can do is take it. But, it only works on trigger effects meaning that if a marshmellon is what they're being attacking you and your lp would still be safe. Now the combo of Vortex and Gravity dragons is a real threat if Odd Eyes ever gets better support, thankfully that will never happen because Konami is shitting out Performapal trash at an alarming rate and ignoring Odd Eyes and Magiciains as an archetype completely.
