With Japan and Abe's cabinet trying to maneuver into a position from which they can amend article 9 of their constitution, do you guys think we will see more militaristic/nationalistic anime in the future? Not even talking about manime, could be cute girls doing cute things with military stuff like GuP, but with a more patriotic tone.
Do you think we will see a change at all in anime with the ever changing and tense political climate we find ourselves in currently?
Maybe I should have made this thread on /pol/, but I really wanted it to be a discussion about possible changes the political climate might cause in anime specifically. I doubt /pol/ would manage to keep it on the anime topic and instead would derail any real discussion.
Yes, expect more inane shit like cute girls doing military stuff and the occassional long black haired japanese nationalist girl insewrted to rant about yamato damashii and how all those koreans and chinese want to prey on poor japan.
In the end, Manime is dead in a nationalist environment as designed by Abe and LDP - because that would be too grim and realistic and be counterproductive to the cause of goating young people to join the SDF and to woo the general population to 'support the troops'. A Ultra-Violent 80s manime would actually show the brutality of war and be understood as anti-war show. Which they were, in some way, since Japan in the 80s was more liberal in their public leanings than nowadays.
So, enjoy more GUP, Haifuri, KanColle etc. masking war-propaganda as otaku pandering shit.
Well, we already had Gate and it's portrayal of JSDF as the Good Guys Who Can Do No Wrong while simultaneously representing the media as lying bastards and other countries as incompetent retards.
It's basically cryptofascist crap, but I liked it anyway.
Attack on Titan, or:
- why a defensive posture equals guaranteed loss against an implacable enemy which you can neither appease nor run away from
- how the current government is both corrupt and based on a lie
- why the solution is the restoration of True And Pure Royal Blood to the throne (see: Meiji Restoration)
- why life is an an unending violent struggle where you can only win by becoming a living weapon
- humanity needs lebensraum
The sooner the masses realize it the better.
Japs have to understand that the gooks and chinks want them dead and their grudge will not disappear, so they have to prepare their army.
Do you guys expect it to take a more realistic war glorification approach in the future? By this I mean more realism in the plots and characters, rather than in the depiction of violence. More anime about overcoming an outside threat, about being assertive, about embracing more traditional values, about asserting your place in the world by all means necessary etc.
>Japan gets military
>Spineless faggot China decides to make a move because muh nanking a bloo bloo
>Japan defending itself
>America realizes that now is the perfect chance to fuck up China for protecting Worst Korea, while also defending their ally
>Remove Worst Korea with ease
>World fears the American Nihon alliance
>Islam is next
This; for example, will never be shown in any future war-themed anime.
Except the perpetrators depicted are Japan's enemies.
Miyazaki did this with The Wind Rises and received a ton of flak for it. Now this is Miyazaki we are talking about, if he can barely get away with doing it, I doubt most others would try.
Most likely, Japan would unilaterally sue for peace once their capital ships, their BMD-capable Aegis destroyers, are sunk by the hundreds of ASBMs China will unleash on them.
Japan is completely defenseless without them, and the US will not risk the loss of their entire pacific fleet and a large chunk of their global power-projection capabilities to wage war against China. Because remember: The US also has to have enough carriers left over to keep Russia and Iran down.
There's already Kankore.
Mark my words and heed my warning, Japan is raising an army of otaku super soldiers. And they will get a commemorative cute girl trading card for every five confirmed kills, so they will be without mercy. Prepare yourselves.
G Reco had the guys trying to change the national defense force into an offensive military as the show's main villains. I was honestly surprised that the netouyos didn't throw a shitfit over the show.
Then again, Tomino is a known for being pretty strongly anti-war in his themes, considering that the villains in Gundam are basically Imperial Japan. There's a reason why Gundam and Ghibli were listed as the two types of anime most responsible for brainwashing Japan by that patriotic anime list netouyo site that an anon linked on /a/ once.
It will affect anime.
Imagine Japan losing to China in a modern day war.
Man, the amount of anal-devastation will be a killing blow against their entire nationalist discourse, which is based on their deep illusion of cultural, technological and racial superiority vs. all those mainland asian races.
Anime will be transformed for sure. Probably as dramatic as Japan's defeat at the hand of the US And probably even more, since at least they could rationalize that defeat with the long-propagated and believed racial superiority of the white man, which has kickstarted their own Meiji reforms in the first place. Nukes and WWII americock-rape was just a later confirmation of that already widely held notion.
But a defeat at the hands of "dirty cockroaches" like the Shinajin? Holy hell. Collective sudoku would be appropriate.
You're are forgetting two things:
1) In a globalized economy, attacking a big country, or even a medium sized one is shooting yourself in the foot. If you destroy their economy, you severily damage yours as well (China attacking Japan is the perfect example of economic suicide).
And many other aspects beside economy, read some Umberto Eco about this.
2) Nuclear weapons. MAD.
No, you are intentionally derailing the thread with /pol/ tier powerlevel comparisons of countries.
OP didn't ask about "how will anime change after china bumfucks japan", the discusion was to be about (and has been until you turned up) how the current political cilmate might change anime.
Either read the OP and take part in the discussion properly, or GTFO
or tits, obviously
Chinese delusions are always interesting to read, not as interesting as American ones when it comes to pretending that they don't care about yurope but at least it is somewhat entertaining.
The guys casually hipfiring the MG42's triggered me a tad. I had to pause the film, close my eyes and repeat "this will not break my immersion, this will not break my immersion, this will not break my immersion" to myself for a minute before I could continue watching.
They do in fact "make peace" by slaughtering their whole armies and intervening in local politics.
Basically what the US is doing in the Middle East atm. The Winning hearts and mind thing while destroying your nation thing.
>Basically having power armor
>Being able to shoot from your hips in any position
It kinda made sense. If you accepted the power armor part.
And actually i don't care about that. I just want to see more good old sexy MG-42.
You want to claim that a demonstration like this is allowed in any other civilized western country?
If this is not a mirror of the Japanese psyche, what is it then?
Japan only won one time against China. That was the 1st sino japanese war of 1895.
ONE (1) TIME.
The last few attempts they lost. The hardest during Tang-era, which is why they begun copying the entire Chinese system and language. Japs always copy from the people who kicked their asses. It is in the nature of the dwarfs of Wa to be buttlickers of the winners, no matter if they just got a spear up their asses, or two nukes.
small island and population centers basically so closeby that one single megaton hit will wipe them out.
also, all their island bases are in range of chinese missiles. China even has a missile system that they call Okinawa-express, for that purpose.
Took me a while to find it in the archives.
Reminder that Miyazaki and Tomino are anti-Japanese leftists responsible for corrupting the pure Yamato damashii of the people.
I think I read somewhere that Japan tried to invade Korea twice during the Silla and Joseon. Ming and Tang dynasties stopped both. If anything, Ancient Japan couldn't beat Ancient China.
It's just modern chinks are shit.
When he talks about farmers being beaten as punishment and drinking poowine to stop the wound from getting infected, is he sure that is why they drank it? Sounds to me like that would just be an extension of the punishment.
Nanking was just an especially bad Japanese chimp-out. It was a chimp out born from butthurt that the 'cockroaches' actually started to fight back and dealt them losses. See, the Jap is not so tough, when he's getting stuck in the mud that is a protracted land-war in asia. Hence, why he murdered hundred thousands of civilians just so that he could deal with his angst issues.
Chinese remember that very well, which is why the upcoming Chinese Type 055 heavy missile cruiser lead ship, with a firepower surpassing all Japanese and US ships, will be named Nanjing and armed with nuclear tipped cruise missiles, while deployed close to Japan.
since thread is already derailed, let me tell you that they actually are building a 2nd carrier.
They plan to have six to eight by 2030.
We're all shaking in our boots here over the people who build our iPhones for a dollar a day, really.
No, you have been derailing from the start turning this thread into, as I said before, a /pol/ powerlevel thread.
Go away, we were discussing possible changes in anime before you entered the thread. go back to being Chinese somewhere where we can't see you.
>the upcoming Chinese Type 055 heavy missile cruiser lead ship, with a firepower surpassing all Japanese and US ships, will be named Nanjing
And that's why it'll be extra sweeter when it gets sinked.
>Naming something after a great historical event
>That event is also something that outrages your people till today
It's like they want it to be either sunk meaninglessly or some shit.
GATE was shit. I hated it. I hated the dumb pandering and otaku lead.
I hated how the JSDF was so powerful. Not because I hate armies. No, because the fantasy army they were fighting was so inferior in terms of power, that it completely robbed the series of tension or potential.
I also hated the Japanese dick-swinging nationalism and self-righteousness. Especially combined with how Japanese expansion mimics the Japanese rhetoric of "Enlightenment" that was employed by the Empire during World War II, and the imperialism before that.
I guess when your country has been in decline for 20 years and has been dominated by other western powers, you can always turn to fiction to get the power-fantasies you want.
>GATE and Haifuri have cross promotion deals with the JSDF
>Weebshits enlist because a slice of life kawaii schoolgirl anime,
>Enter an enlisted life of hazing, abuse and mediocre military life.
>Especially in a confucian culture like Japan where hazing is widely practiced.
Oh man, I don't want to imagine weak otakus like Pvt. Kyle suffering in a military boot camp scenario ala FMJ.
On 2nd thought, that would be a nice anime idea.
>Slice of life School girl Boot camp X FMJ
>You get US GI School and Viet Cong Schools fighting each other in quasi High school exhibition matches
The thread was going fine, and it would have continued going fine, /a/ out of all places is usually a place that adheres to "anime or manga or gtfo".
I simply did not expect a Chinese guy to enter the thread to spread his disgusting nationalism.
>I simply did not expect a Chinese guy to enter the thread to spread his disgusting nationalism.
Well your thread is about Japanese Nationalism after all. It is quasi related as the Chinese are depicted as the typical Japanese enemy similar to the Russians to the US.
>I actually enjoy my military life thank you very much.
That's great anon.
But in East Asian cultures, the hazing/bullying is on a whole new level. Confucian Hierarchies is tough shit.
Even the Japanese princess got hazed.
No, the thread isn't about japanese nationalism, that is what the chink read into it so he could come in with his "china so great" posts.
If you refuse to properly read the OP then you might as well just admit that you are a derailing shitposting waste of space.
I am honestly mad at you, the chinkposter, and anyone else who is delibaretly misreadin the OP just so they can /pol/ post. You have AN ENTTRE board dedicated to that sort of powerlevel comapring bullshit, take it there.
Once again I ask a mod to close the thread, this shit is currently just encouraging crossposters to come here more often as the derailing is obviously being tolerated.
I really can't take GATE seriously when the puny little JSDF can run circles around America and Russia.
And what's there to be proud about when the people you're fighting are so inept and weak?
I think the idea had potential, but the execution was awful.
Why don't you just leave the thread instead if you can't deal with this. You could've simply not respond to the chinkposter and ignored him. That or report him. Yet you give him more things to respond to, increasing the pointless /pol/ talk.
You're just as bad as chinkposter.
>Even the Japanese princess got hazed
Take a good look at Aiko, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why. No one in Japan respects her or her parents. Mako and Kako are the REAL princesses that the people will give their lives for.
That's honestly a secondary concern for me. If you think that winning over and over again without any sort of tension or struggle is entertaining to watch, then you are probably a simpleton.
You OP post explicitly states
> do you guys think we will see more militaristic/nationalistic anime in the future?
Your thread is basically asking other's opinions on Militarism/Nationalism and its frequency in anime.
And kudos to you OP, you've invited quite an enthusiastic audience.
No need to be butt flustered. Take it as a compliment.
If you've ever been to GATE threads, they are quite chaotic and fun.
>Take a good look at Aiko, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why. No one in Japan respects her or her parents.
Are you implying they're ugly? Because they are. No offense.
> Mako and Kako are the REAL princesses that the people will give their lives for.
Because they're prettier and have double eyelids and don't look like Koreans?
So it's all superficial in the end.
Let's run down the list.
Naruhito, heir apparent to the throne:
>married a woman completely unworthy of joining the Imperial Family, both in upbringing and intelligence and qualifications
>generally perceived as a joke, not very bright
Masako, his wife:
>ugly as FUCK, people call her Ushiko (ushi means cow) or Dosukoi (what sumo wrestler say)
>unintelligent; only got into Harvard because of money
>horrible personality, no self-awareness or consideration toward others
>literally retarded - she clearly has a mental problem and is incapable of interacting normally with people
>ugly as FUCK
>probably bullied because she is a disgrace to the Family and unworthy of attending the traditional Gakushuin (although that school itself has declined significantly)
They're just a major disappointment all around. The Akishino family (second son) is much more popular because not only do they look good, they're more learned and cultured and act the part.
>Because they're prettier and have double eyelids and don't look like Koreans?
Mako is a little chubby and not as nice-looking as she used to be, but people still like her because she's well-spoken, compassionate, very active in representing the Imperial Family and goes around performing her duties ably - none of which the Naruhito family are capable of.
>You're A Sap Mr.Chink, Der SJW's Face and Beijing Jokyo
I can't wait for the new dawn of cute girls doing patriotic things.
Oh, I didn't realize you were referring to Looney Tunes. I've seen stuff like that before, one was called "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" I think.
Japan does things more subtle though, so expect more indirect stuff like SnK with characters resembling WWII generals to rustle the Koreans.
>the fantasy army they were fighting was so inferior in terms of power that it completely robbed the series of tension or potential
Haven't watched GATE. Is it basically Japanese Salvation War? If so
I think I might try it out
Yes, except in this day of age it will be Laura Haruna Jips the Chinks.
>You're A Sap Mr. Chink, you make Tezuka cranky.
>You're A Sap Mr. Chink, Atomu is going to spanky.
>Way out sea before we're done,
>The NHK and D will sink your rising buns.
>You're A Sap Mr. Chink, you don't know Miyamoto,
>When you fight for your life, you take it on the lammy.
>When we fight the scum bags right off the bat,
>You're A Sap Sap Sap Mr. Chink.
>If you think that winning over and over again without any sort of tension or struggle is entertaining to watch
That's what being American is all about - we like to win. Wars are only bad when we don't win them decisively.
>That same year, he became a member of the Nazi Party and a sponsoring member ("Förderndes Mitglied") of the Schutzstaffel (SS). With their help, his economic situation improved. He also joined the German Labour Front in 1936, the Reich Air Protection Association in 1939, and the National Socialist People's Welfare in 1941. After joining these organizations, his sales increased from 38,260 RM ($26,993 U.S. dollars in 1932) to over 3,300,000 RM in 1941. His profits also increased in the same time period from 5,000 RM to 241,000 RM. Though he claimed in a 1934-1935 advertisement that he had been a "supplier for National Socialist uniforms since 1924," it is probable that he did not begin to supply them until 1928 at the earliest. This is the year he became an Reichszeugmeisterei-licensed (official) supplier of uniforms to the Sturmabteilung, Schutzstaffel, Hitler Youth, National Socialist Motor Corps, and other party organizations. For production in later years of the war, Hugo Boss used prisoners of war and forced labourers, from the Baltic States, Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Soviet Union.
>But he didn't design that one uniform so he had nothing to do with nazis
I had a kek at the sincerity of your bait.
But compared to European Royal Families they all seem like prodigies. Almost everyone in the Imperial Family is holding at least a graduate degree and some even seem to be leading researchers in their respective field. That's pretty impressive.
>An iPod is an Apple product, not a Steve Jobs product.
Nah, people view it as a Steve Jobs product, the guy is viewed as a sort demigod who brought about the new age of phones and tablets.
But ok, lets go by your logic, it isn't a Steve Jobs product, but an Apple product, because the company that made them is named "Apple".
The Nazi Uniforms were produced by the company "Hugo Boss", so it is a Hugo Boss uniform.
don't forget to add some ad hominems when trying to argue your way out of this one anon-kun
>they all seem like prodigies
That's not saying much when their middle school math is taught in fucking Harvard.
>Almost everyone in the Imperial Family is holding at least a graduate degree and some even seem to be leading researchers in their respective field
No doubt many of them are actually smart, but others are just rich people with a lot of money and their studies overseas is really just an excuse to see the world.
If anything we will see more anime about no good adults throwing children into a war only evil adults want.
it's hard to instill a nationalistic fervor when half the country doesn't feel "italian" and was united just over 100 years ago.
Not for lack of trying though, but compare the history and empire-building of modern-era germany with that of italy.
>Doing work for a government
Hugo Boss was more than a mere contractor during the Nazi regime. It is a Hugo Boss uniform. not that this argument matters, nobody is buying into your absurd side of it anyway, nor will they ever.
>Try asking that with George W Bush.
Not even Dubya could ever hope to achieve the same level of incompetence.
>Tried to micromanage his whole nation, down to individual newspaper censorship
>Split his divisions in two so could claim to have double his army without recruting a single soldier
>Manage to get his shit pushed by fucking Greece, of all the nations
>Not a idiot
Slightly off topic, but I definitely feel that shows like GuP and KanColle have made me a lot less sensitive about WWII.
It's funny how Japan gets away with glorifying WWII, but Germany will likely get a shitload of flak if they made a comedy about the Holocaust.
It's Germany that's the exception, not Japan.
In Italy, Mussolini's granddaughter is a politician who says he did nothing wrong, and Il Duce himself is still buried in a rather nice mausoleum that gets flowers from visitors.
You're stupid, that's not how fascism works. As for army related topics, Italy simply had a really shitty command structure, unorganized and incompetent. Corrupt generals just add to the misery.
Mussolini didn't "get his shit pushed in by the Greeks". The Greek knew they were coming and had a good amount of time to prepare. Italy just had incompetence in all ranks of the military, add the fact that North Italians didn't give a shit about any of this anyways and you have problem.
>It's funny how Japan gets away with glorifying WWII, but Germany will likely get a shitload of flak if they made a comedy about the Holocaust.
Mostly from within Ger- "We're sorry" -many.
His company made them ergo they are Hugo Boss produced uniforms used by the army/SS.
You seem to be confusing the name of the person with the name of the company, which in this case are the same.
I don't know why the Imperial family seems to like going to college in Ireland so much.
Do they like Irish potatocock or something?
Also, isn't one of the non-royal families that married into the royal line Christian or something? I heard that they send their kids to a hoity-doity Christian school (which is stupid considering regardless of the lineage of that school, you're marrying the "soul" of a nation due to their god-king myth; something of a faux-pas, I feel).
>Germany will likely get a shitload of flak if they made a comedy about the Holocaust.
They do it to themselves. There's no such thing as patriotism in Germany now, and look at all the refugees they're letting in to make a statement.
Hope so. Maybe I could become a military engineer in japan, and work on battle mechs, and other military equipment
>inb4 they'd never let gaijins in the industry
>>inb4 they'd never let gaijins in the industry
They will, but you need an N2 or higher.
>yfw N4 pleb.
No, no, much like any homogeneous industrialized nation, skilled foreigners are appreciated working in industry; it's just that they won't get any social respect or status, and if you're not within your own foreign contract company and instead in an indigenous one, you won't get shit in the way of promotions that actually mean leadership opportunities.
>Do they like Irish potatocock or something?
Probably just familiarity.
>Hey your father attended that one school in Dublin, it was nice, remember when we visited a few years ago?
>Yeah I think I'll go to school there
As for Christianity, it's really toned down in their society. No one gets shit for being a Christian but it's more folded into their philosophy towards living life, if that makes sense, rather than people making a big show of going to church etc. Their idea of religion is different from the West - it's more of a cultural/traditional treasure than a genuine belief in the divine.
I have a friend who's a German foreign exchange student and she says they don't even fly their national flag at buildings. And surely you've seen that webm of Merkel snatching the flag out of a minister's hand and shaking her head disapprovingly. They try so hard.
>I have a friend who's a German foreign exchange student and she says they don't even fly their national flag at buildings. And surely you've seen that webm of Merkel snatching the flag out of a minister's hand and shaking her head disapprovingly. They try so hard.
The Krauts are just self repressive, give em a couple years before they go full Reich on Europe again.
I still feel any linkage to a branch of the family that is religious enough to outright favor a minority religion is bad news; Japan picks up enough ideas from the West fucks them up fierce when it tries it for itself. Abe and the other rightists in the Diet are already fucking shit up with their inane Westernized censorship laws for the 2020 Olympics.
Should have told any prissy foreigners to shut up and suck it up, but no, they have to fuck up freedoms previously enjoyed by the Japanese to fit an impossible (and needlessly restraining) idea of propriety.
Last thing needed in Japan is any rise of Christian movements (which would do anything Christian completely wrong) and maligns the majority beliefs in the process.
>You're stupid, that's not how fascism works.
What does fascist theorical or practical ramifications have to do with the man competence?
> As for army related topics, Italy simply had a really shitty command structure, unorganized and incompetent. Corrupt generals just add to the misery.
So did the URRS, and yet the managed to actually put their shit together and prevail against what as the world most well trained and well leaded army.
>Mussolini didn't "get his shit pushed in by the Greeks".
>The Greek knew they were coming and had a good amount of time to prepare. Italy just had incompetence in all ranks of the military, add the fact that North Italians didn't give a shit about any of this anyways and you have problem.
Actually, the invasion came as shock to both the greeks and the germans, largely because Italy was already fighting in North Africa and Hitler was worried that if Greece joined the Allies, England would be able to use greek air bases to bomb romanian oil fields.
>Merkel snatching the flag out of a minister's hand and shaking her head disapprovingly.
I love how this backfired so hard that it almost felt like she did it knowing it would backfire to create controversy and more awareness of the "we so sorry" meme the Germans are getting tired of. it was like some sort of elaborate reverse troll.
too bad it isn't and we are dealing with the devil incarnate
I met my own kind. I passed the december exam. Except, Im worse than before because Im focusing my time on studying engineering.
As long as im happy, its okay. Besides, people irl hate me regardless of what nationality they are.
>yfw they intepret Christianiy the Raildex/DxD way.
>Alternatively they just look at the crusades and their take home message from it is "fuck up outsiders".
I would be surprisingly ok with that desu senpai-kun
It has something to do with the fact that he doesn't do everything on his own. Italian incompetence is to blame here. The Soviets "put their shit together because of a number of reasons, none of which are relevant to Italian incompetence. Italy didn't even understand the concept of logistics, the Soviets are a completely different beast which was also not fully mobilized and found itself on the back foot.
I don't know what these links are supposed to prove, Mussolini was no general, of course he had his own share of incompetent decisions but the non existent quality of the Italian military, general staff and so on is to blame. No, Greeks were prepared and that is also the only reason why the managed to actually hold their own against the Italians.
>I met my own kind. I passed the december exam. Except, Im worse than before because Im focusing my time on studying engineering.
Japanophile Engineers unite!
Yeah, not having enough time to study Japanese is suffering. But at least I'm not a double major! I know two CS/EE double majors, and they're already three years behind schedule because they bit off more than they can chew.
>Last thing needed in Japan is any rise of Christian movements
This will never happen. Seriously. Virtually every aspect of their culture - holiday, cuisine, etiquette and code of conduct, customer service, craftsmanship, everything - was built one way or another on Shinto/Buddhism. The thing with the Olympics is probably a compromise, because Abe and Co. make a point of not giving a fuck what the West thinks in terms of social values and progressivism. I was in Kyoto a couple summers back and met two Mormon kids on bikes, white shirt and tie and all, trying to talk to the locals about their faith. They told me (nearly in tears, because they hadn't spoken in English for a while and were treated coldly by everyone) that people either run away or slam doors in their faces and don't give a fuck. It's like going to the Vatican and trying to convert people to Islam.
Convert's Fury is a thing Anon. If there was a Christian movement in Japan, it'd probably go the way Korea is now currently doing it.
>increased emphasis on censorship and Puritan-ish censorship of social convention and art
>harassment of non-Christians by idiot kids looking to be neo-jihadis
>And then we get to the banning of pornography.
For its economic power, Korea is something of a social shithole even today. I just don't get it; I thought Japan was always the repressed nation, but Korea just seems like a giant Potemkin Village outside of Seoul.
You guys are tossers, I've spoken to Japanese people both on the mainland and exchange students here (here being NZ).
They've all been friendly and accepting. Even gave me gifts despite having only met. Thankfully I brought spare kiwi plushes with me.
Well, they chose a bad place for it admittedly. Kyoto is THE place for conservatism and tradition. As well, there's the need for all those places of "idolatry" that make up a significant part of Kyoto history.
Probably Tokyo or Okinawa would have been better choices due to the higher gaijin population and proportion of ideas.
I legit feel bad for those guys, but seriously, evangelism outside of third world nations in need of missions (for material aid) is just a sad idea.
Its because im a one of a kind.
eto, thats going to be me. But, I haven't even entered college yet. Im 18, and I spend my highschool days studying science on my phone.
Ya, but the problem lies in the fact that this particular case of bad military organization indirectly led to the loss of WW2.
>Italy can't handle Greece
>Germany needs to swing by to help
>Delays attack on Russia by weeks
>German advance on the 3 big cities muddled by shitty winter
Had Germany not been needed in Greece, it could have started its offensive on Russia weeks earlier, which in turn would in all likelihood have led to them being able to take Moscow and possibly Lenin/Stalingrad. Whether they would have won the war from that point onward is a different question of curse.
>Korea just seems like a giant Potemkin Village outside of Seoul
Because it is. Ask any native Korean where they're from, and I guarantee you at least one in three will say 'Seoul' even when they've never been there.
There is a difference between 'being polite' and 'accepting you into their culture'.
Everyone Japanese person will be polite and give gifts and shit. Finding a job or marrying a Japanese woman are different things entirely. Japan isn't NZ, it isn't multicultural and its pretty fucking conservative on the inside.
Not with this guy in charge.
The kicker question here is did you work with them PROFESSIONALLY as your day job and career for an extended length of time, living in Japan?
The Japanese people are nice when you're a tourist, but if you're going to live with them, they have certain rules and assumptions about you (both fair and unfair) as a gaijin.
As well, the bringing gifts to you part is a politeness thing. It shows humility and their willingness to conform to wherever they're visiting as "outsiders." They do the same when they move to new neighborhoods in Japan. If you were visiting Japan, the same would be expected of you.
>Kyoto is THE place for conservatism and tradition
Hell, the people in Kyoto are cold even towards other Japanese. They have a lot of pride in their "muh ancient capital" status.
>that people either run away or slam doors in their faces and don't give a fuck
The same treatment in all corners of the earth then, I feel slightly more connected to nips just by reading that.
>They've all been friendly and accepting. Even gave me gifts despite having only met. Thankfully I brought spare kiwi plushes with me.
The superficial politeness is found in all E. Asian cultures.
Two face is the default modus operandi of E. Asians.
You mean me personally? No, it doesn't change the fact that a good amount of people do though, of course being an ultra liberal country means that most people don't do it. You go out into more rural areas and or gardening complexes in areas of the city and you'll see a lot of flags.
No ones doubting how exclusive Japan is, but you guys are acting like Japan is Nazi Germany. And the are a lot of foreigners working in Japan already.
Though no-one stays in Japan for more than 5 years because the pre-university education system is abysmal.
This, Japan's Tatemae==China's Mianzi.
I agree with you, it's essentially down to shit tier organization and command structure. The point was that Mussolini can only do so much in an already divided country, he wasn't as incompetent as it might look although he was clearly no gift from God either.
>I feel slightly more connected to nips just by reading that.
Truly, nobody likes evangelist visits.
I really wish they wouldn't hand me tiny bibles/mormon-books either. It feels like such a waste to throw it away, and I'm not even Christian myself.
>And the are a lot of foreigners working in Japan already.
Who says they're not?
Again, Japan isn't a bad place to be, but you also have to understand there's a general glass ceiling for foreigners, especially if there's a Japanese candidate for the same promotion.
I have flat out told these people in the past that I won't be reading their free hand out books, and to not waste it by trying to force it on me.
Then when I step out the front door some hours later they have literally left the book at my doorstep. It made me rather upset.
The guys I met said they were trying to be "polite and accepting" but sure enough, they were handing out those dumb mini pamphlets. Jesus was on the back and I told them they better take him off because he looked too much like the Aum Shinrikyo's leader, with the beard and long hair and everything. Seriously, that's a major put-off point for them.
Sorry, that was just an expression of surprise. But yeah, that's what I imagined. If it's still normal in gardening complexes, well, that's a couple of steps up from treating it like the Confederate flag.
>there were no foreigners in National Socialist Germany
Considering Nazi were more about race than foreigners based on the borders drawn on the maps, I would say yes, Nazi Germany had very few "race foreigners".
>It has something to do with the fact that he doesn't do everything on his own.
Indeed. However, several key decisions, such as the invasion of Greece simple for the sake of dickwaving, without no thought put in the capacity of the army or the stragic ramifications of that decision, spliting all division to "increase" the army as well as the "genius" attempt to micro the whole nation was something that he took by his initiative, and thus can be blamed for then.
>Had Germany not been needed in Greece, it could have started its offensive on Russia weeks earlier, which in turn would in all likelihood have led to them being able to take Moscow and possibly Lenin/Stalingrad. Whether they would have won the war from that point onward is a different question of curse.
Honestly, that is unlikely, Germany delayed the invasion to get more soviet oil as per the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, plus the was also the first Rasputitsa, that started later that year and would have rendered any large scale campaing impossible.
America actually is pretty good about "diversity" in the business world; however it comes down a lot to how natural your English is. The better it is in accent and vernacular, the less likely anybody will assume you're a foreigner.
It's mostly white, but we have to remember that's just both the majority and as well that there's a couple generations of educational crawling to get to management positions unless you go full-grindstone like Asian/Indians in pre-professional education.
There's a glass ceiling for everyone in the west anyway. Companies in the west realised they could save money by external hiring rather than internal hiring. Combined with outsourcing, the idea of a lifelong career in a company died in the west.
Employees responded in kind by switching jobs every three or so years to ensure their own paychecks didn't stagnate.
This phenomenon has gotten so bad that noncompete clauses in contracts have started to become a thing.
What I'm saying is that spending 4 or so years in Japan is not nearly as melodramatic as /a/ makes it out to be. The overtime is more worrisome than the xenophobia.
>Not in Germany or the UK
Ya, it does. Despite all the news about "muh policies", if companies believe they can get away with discrimination towards immigrants, then they will hire the westerner over MrSyrian.
They still care or remember what the Aum Shinrikyo guy looks like? Weird.
Or were you giving them a fib to make them feel better about the abysmal place they were assigned to to bring the Japanese the Book of Mormon, Jesus' Adventures in America?
Not really. There's a reason why 'diversity' is pretty much a meme among HR people. The reason why companies are so into hiring females and blacks is that most management positions are held by white males in their 50s.
'Diversity' is really just corporate PR. Beyond the occasional Indian, management is going to stay white for a long, long time.
>They still care or remember what the Aum Shinrikyo guy looks like? Weird.
It was a very traumatic experience for them, you know. There are still survivors. Innocent people died horribly. I think it's Japan's version of 9/11, even though the global consequences and scale of tragedy aren't comparable, because it was a bit of a wake up call and caused them to reevaluate many things.
And last I checked, the guy hasn't been executed yet. He's STILL on death row and more or less senile now, I don't know what's preventing them from pressing the switch or at least put him out of his misery.
4-5 years isn't really "living" there though in terms of what we were talking about though. It's becoming a permanent resident a la marriage and/or a career there.
4-5 years is a college stint; that's barely anything in the age where people move every 4-5 years BECAUSE of education and/or changing jobs.
Marrying someone and becoming part of their ethnic traditions and roles, working as a permanent employee and not a contractor, etc. These are the things that will test your patience.
>The overtime is more worrisome than the xenophobia.
Don't they have to do OT anyways even with no work since you have to support the superficial illusion of a good salaryman?
Were you bullied or hazed? Are the QTs actually qt?
Depends on your definition of Slavs I guess. One side of my family came from Breslau, I never looked into it but I most certainly have some Polish blood in me. Southern Silesia had a Polish majority and there were Poles and Czech in Silesia. Did you forget the annexation of the Czechoslovakia? What about Prussian territory. Germany was always diverse and really doesn't need more diversity.
>What I'm saying is that spending 4 or so years in Japan is not nearly as melodramatic as /a/ makes it out to be. The overtime is more worrisome than the xenophobia
The so-called Japanese xenophobia is very overstated in my opinion, but you have the mainstream media to thank for that. Imagine going after hentai manga for their portrayal of violent treatment of women when there's Saudi Fucking Arabia.
Are these quotation marks scare quotes, or for emphasis? Either way a sad state of affairs.
Sort of like how you can see pretty much every flag except for the American flag at anti-Trump protests.
I'm pretty lucky for being shoved in a platoon with relatively civilized people who just left alone for the most part. Never actually spoke to anybody, and nobody ever spoke to me.
As for the QT issue, 3DPD aside, most young Israeli girls look like arabs. It's all very repulsive.
But let's not turn this into a blog thread.
pic related whenever this issue is brought up.
Yep, it all comes back to that tatemae.
>4-5 years isn't really "living" there though in terms of what we were talking about though.
Well then most of us will be homeless forever as we work at a different company every three tears or so.
This is the most interesting and productive thread I've been in all week
And it's not even anime/manga related
The Japanese "work" as much as most office people do anywhere (read: they do actual work for about 2-3 hours a day unless they're management, then bullshit around on the Internet or something, so long as it LOOKS like they're being diligent).
Nomi-nication and the image of a good worker is an inane addition to that, yes. For most people, they still have to linger after work because unless the boss takes off, nobody can leave. However, the boss to look like a "boss" in Japan has to do his pseudo-shogun schtick and invite everyone to drink with him because "they were all working so hard."
Cue inordinately long hours and bodily stress, combined with a usually long commute to get from wherever you work in Tokyo or Osaka back to the suburb where you technically lay your head and ostensibly have family (that you get to spend time with beyond maybe breakfast or dinner about once a month).
>Rocket News is more of a weeaboo-flavored HuffPo-esque rag, but it still at least offers a slight glimpse into real social problems
>Well then most of us will be homeless forever as we work at a different company every three tears or so.
Technically we are. I mean, it's difficult to ever own a home in that same circumstance, and set up longer-lasting roots (memberships, friendships, etc.). I mean, you're an idiot if you "buy" a house rather than rent it if you don't know that you're going to live there in that same city the rest of your life.
I think it's just Americans being exposed to general east-asian racism for the first time. All east-asian countries are extremely racist (if anything, Japs are relatively welcoming towards westerners), but Japan has a bigger presence in American culture and it's a very popular tourism destination. Americans who go there for the first time are shocked to see not everyone is jumping to suck their cock at any possible opportunity, so they come back and tell these exaggerated tales about the horrible xenophobic nipponese.
As a blonde blue eyed Dutch/German who has lived in Japan, I can say that I have never experienced xenophobia there. At most it has been a curiosity of them towards the "unknown and exotic". A lot of nips have never met a foreigner in their lives, let alone spoken with one. So ya, you might be treated somewhat differently, but not differently in a horrible way, unless you are one of those tumblerinas who bought into the meme and think that any differentiation is evil by definition.
For example I have had people come up to me to have their picture taken with me because of my blonde hair and the fact that I am ~1.90 tall. Why would I take offense at this? I AM different, why get offended by them recognizing this and being interested in that? If anything it has helped me meet people. If I had looked japanese I would have most likely blended in with the otaku crowd. I can also make fun of petty much everything without having to worry about accidentally stepping on a snowflake. I could do a little Hitler act and the people I was with would have a laugh rather than tell me "you shouldn't do that" or just flat out fine me/arrest me like they do here at home.
I have never felt more free than I have done in Japan. I can do what I like there, I can say what I like there. Being home in Germany feels like being put back into a birdcage after being allowed to fly around the room.
Unwritten rule of the 4chins: Any thread on a board not actually meant for that thread is actually better than having it on the thread meant for it.
4chan was fucking grand before moot increasingly balkanized it into further and further boards. ONLY fun/interesting threads survived longer than a couple minutes before being shat off the board entirely.
You're white, tall and from Western Europe. Of course they're going to head over heels for you.
Try being Chinese, Korean, Russian or any country that isn't America/EU. The xenophobia is fucking real I tell ya.
Having both lived and worked Japan, essentially what it comes down to is this: if you're a foreigner, you're going to be treated like a guest no matter how long you work or live there.
Really as long as you won't have any delusions about being accepted or anything it's pretty good. Being the perpetual outsider has lots of benefits, you can get away with lots of bullshit a Japanese citizen wouldn't.
>As a blonde blue eyed Dutch/German who has lived in Japan
>my blonde hair and the fact that I am ~1.90 tall
>HI! I'm the stereotypical idea of a white guy in an Asian nation!
Even a broken clock is right twice a day; SJWs sadly in this case.
Nigga, I'm sorry to tell you this, but you've got...white privilege.
>not a Steve Jobs product
It is though. That's his whole marketing plan, make his name synonymous with the products. Just look at all the apple fanboys who fucking call him revolutionary tech genius even though the actual work isn't done by him.
That's called you trying to skirt past the subject by playing on technicality. You can play rule lawyer all you like, the association is there, the brand implication is there.
It's their closest neighbor that's not more of Asia (which generally is too poor to care about and/or hates them for Japanese invasion during WWII and beforehand), and far closer than Australia.
>and fuck caring about India, land of dysentery and an even worse toilet situation than CHINA
>The superficial politeness is found in all E. Asian cultures.
>Two face is the default modus operandi of E. Asians.
As a SEAfag I'm here to affirm that superficial politeness and two-face extends all the way down to the rest of Asia.
The Japanese had the high bid and they wanted to feel internationally relevant again (countries in ailing social and economic straights tend to do this, like for the World Cup).
And then they decided that they didn't want the rest of the world to think of them as weird perverts (even though the world was going to do that ANYWAYS).
Hell, I think they were planning on AKB48 to do the opening show.
Of underaged schoolgirls in miniskirts and idol-ized school uniforms.
The entire concept of the 2020 Japan Olympics is currently a social mess, but so to is Japan at the moment. They can't decide what they want to be as a nation, and are foundering under stagnation in which an overly conservative movement has politically taken force because it gives the only standing concept of doing "anything" for better or ill.
What's with the holier than thou attitude anon?
Life isn't fair, you just got the better end of it.
I think OP left a long time ago cuz he started a /pol/ related thread and coudln't handle the /pol/ness of his OP topic.
>Why are foreigners constantly trying to explain American policy without really understanding it at all?
What's there to understand?
>The only way is the American way!!
God bless America!
>using the term SJW unironically.
Relevant to the topic I guess
It starts in the 8th page, so add page/8/ at the end.
>Japan gets away with glorifying WWII
nanking and pearl harbor is getting reminded everywhere, even in /a/.
Did anyone saw that atomic bomb memorial meeting? American twitter exploded with comments "say sorry for pearl harbor!" Korea and China join in for circle jerk.
Ya, but these are disliked the world over, and they do it to themselves. you walk onto any uni campus on planet earth, and you will 100% sure find a clique of chinks not mixing with anyone speaking mandarin, outsourcing their coursework and be nationalist chink spies. There isn't a nationality on earth I am more wary of than the Chinese, backstabbing conniving sliteyes.
>in an Asian nation
Do you not see the 4/10 nerdy losers punching well above their weight class in Asia? Exoticism works to your advantage the more homogeneous a nation is and you're not an untouchable group (e.g. blacks generally), and Asia is certainly that.
>AKB48 to do the opening show.
I would love to see that just for the lulz.
>48 pre-teens with the vocal talent of JAV actresses
>dressed in gothic lolita miniskirt school uniforms without safety spats like the Kpoppers sluts
>Put on a show for the world dancing some mediocre routine of the 48 switching positions and camera time
Can't say for Koreans but it's definitely true for the Chinks. Speaking as someone who was once an international student, it pisses me off how they pretty much gave all the international students a bad name. Hell, the one time I teamed up with a chinese bloke who actually did his work, he flat out told me he hates working with other chinks because they are shitty group members.
We have to admit that the entire visiting audience of the 2020 JP Olympics is either going to be:
a. abhorred drama queens over Japanese social conventions and "smut"
b. perverts who will flood Akiba and/or try to legitimately rape schoolgirls while in Japan and buy child pornography
And the horrible part is that Japan signed up for this and no matter what they do, even if they go full-Korea-retarded, they won't be able to fix the inevitable shitfest.
Actually it's reportedly not horrible outside of the big megacities like Tokyo and Osaka and Kyoto.
Those places exacerbate the job pool problem because of the sheer number of applicants making competition abysmal.
The countryside (i.e. anything NOT the big ciities) are losing labor and would love to have more or less anybody live there and join the tax base so long as they aren't a criminal.
what is your degree worth in a foreign country more matter almost everywhere. If you just think you can get a fulltime job with just a non US, UK or German degree, then you can just stay back in your home country and work as table runner.
I found the SEA ones ok. Malaysians are pretty chill and S'poreans are uptight but gets shit done. The rest like Vietnam etc, well their english isn't good but at least they try. I mean sure, there's bound to be some exceptions here and there, but for the most part, they're ok.
In my experience, it's really mainly the Chinese ones that are spoiled brats. Hell, here in
Straya, the ghost-writing businesses are run by chinese and advertised to chinese students on their chink social media.
The sad part is that even Miku would be far less cringe-y than sending nearly FIFTY singin'n'dancin jailbait out before an international audience and expecting to be taken seriously.
>FIFTY singin'n'dancin jailbait
I quite honestly don't see the problem and it would be the first time I would be interested in seeing the opening ceremony.
London was pants on head childishly retarded.
Beijing was trying way too hard and taking itself way too serious, forcing the "china best nation ever" meme.
I don't even remember what came before those, undoubtedly shit anyway.
If I don't have a smile/grin on my face watching the ceremony, you are dong it wrong, not that my opinion matters though.
>international students are quite the spoiled brats.
>They are the nouveau rich devilspawn.
FTFY. Kids with enough money to travel purely for professional education are pretty spoiled often; if you had enough money to travel just for school, you had enough money for a top-tier institution good enough to rival any Western one in your native country...
>that is if you had the actual grades/talent
>or even wanted anything other than the reputation points to say that you went to school overseas
This is the case entirely save for people who go to medical school outside the US, because getting into medical school in the US is a gigantic hellish rat race.
>though generally those people have less-than-stellar grades to begin with
A teen(ish, in AKB's case) wouldn't be so much the problem even, if it wasn't for the fact that there's so goddamn many of them.
I don't know what possessed whatever production company that made AKB push the Morning Musume limit to its hellish logical conclusion, but idol-ota of Japan still feed them their monetary lifeblood in exchange for even fake-r waifus than 2D-otaku, and then shoved their way into getting international attention to show that expressly off.
>do you guys think we will see more militaristic anime in the future?
Fuck, I hope so. Animation is absolutely ripe for good military shows, but ONLY if it's actual warfare/manime shit. If >>141177277 is right and it's more Haifuri, Upotte, KanColle, etc. type shit then I will petition the president to drop a few more nukes on that rocky little island. I fear for the future of anime.
Because AKB is mediocre tier shit, be it in terms of their dancing or singing.
I'd rather see fucking World Order doing the opening.
I really hope the japanese don't give in to those SJW hambeasts and feminists and manage to survive the olympics with their mentality and their everything intact. Your post gave me hope and made me smile a little man, thank you.
We have to remember that the entertainment industry of Japan is a hellhole of otaku-milking and terrible management decisions.
>Rocket News again for a bird's eye view: http://en.rocketnews24.com/2016/04/11/3-reasons-japanese-movies-today-suck-according-to-distributor-and-producer-adam-torel/
Oricon's Top lists is continually swamped by shitty idol music because it counts sales driven by idiots buying thousands of copies of the same CDs simply to get more online vote codes for idols they want to waifu.
The actually good music never really gets enough attention.
Yes, but to put it into anime terms for you, if thinness is your average anime characters like, lets say Shinji, then I was drawn by CLAMP.
Olympics is going to be 2020, in other words we'll have been through potentially an entire Trump term by that time and right around the same timeframe of another election. As disastrous as it potentially could be, I honestly doubt that any Americans will be giving a shit about Japan by then. Europe as we know it probably won't even exist either.
Technically the islands and their associated clay was just a focal point for what they were fighting over; it's the oil underneath the water around those places that they want.
China was ruined by the Qing Dynasty. Not only did everything great about China got replaced by Mongolians, but everyone and their grandmother was colonizing the shit out of it. China before Qing is barely even the same country.
These guys are awesome.
Though while they were in France, I'm surprised they were able to get so much filming done without getting interrupted to the point of having to quit by either annoying tourists or indigenous French trying to photobomb.
No, it got ruined by Mao's cultural revolution. Qing and post Qing, China still had quite a lot of things going for them, especially culture wise. Yes, they did fuck things up, but on the other hand they did have their fair share of contribution.
Meanwhile, Mao went full retard by turning everyone into illiterate peasants. Even the fucking Mongolians and Qing knew that being educated was important.
If more Japanese patriotism and militarism can give us qts like pic related, I'll take it
You have to remember that they're only six-ish inches/12-ish cm taller than the baseline average of normal people (due to bishonen-izing their physical stats). It's their proportions that would be weird as hell if they were brought into our world.
Their internal organs would be really thin and tall.
At that point people are going to want to forget, and I'm willing to bet that they're going to drag others down to their misery level with their ideas and the like. Things will need to be so fucked up, and I mean "Our grandchildren will be reading about this on their history books as part of the mandatory curriculum"-tier fucked up for libcucks to no longer give a shit about the olympics
LOL, Japanese men are some of the most pussywhipped peaceloving people on the planet. Think your average 4chan poster, except that constitutes 90% of the population or more, not a small minority. This will literally never happen.
>If you think that winning over and over again without any sort of tension or struggle is entertaining to watch, then you are probably a simpleton.
Well One Punch Man was pretty entertaining, but that might be because it was played for laughs, and he had the whole hero levels struggle going for him.
>near future japan
>world is in all out war, thousands dying by the day as coalition forces invade mainland japan
>declining population filled increasingly with hikki NEETs

Best thread on /a/ right now
Better /pol/ discussion than on /pol/
Better /jp/ discussion than on /jp/
Not even anime.
We have a fairly high standing army for a first world nation; we legit have enough manpower that we don't even really need to even consider a possible draft/call-to-arms situation outside of World War 3.
So naturally we're fairly passive about it; as well, who the hell would challenge us enough that we'd care about fighting "the good fight" for our nation beyond empty recruitment platitudes? We sure as hell fought for our freedom in the Middle East (directly, I mean, not talking about the technical geopolitical/economic gains), didn't we?
>my issue with that particular graph is that it also includes the fact that a lot of nations have skew in terms of their population and as well the idea of the people being polled as to how much they "like" their nation enough to ostensibly fight for it, Hong Kong and Japan being fairly understandable
Americans are showboaters at heart.
If there's no actual threat on the horizon to the average American way of life, then there's no reason to volunteer for fighting (even in a poll) while we have a perfectly functional volunteer military already.
You always get the best discussion in off topic threads. I remember /fit/ had an excellent discussion about literature once, it was great.
>Surprised how Murica isn't first in the list.
Most Americans realize that any war we get involved with will be due to one of our shitty allies (who coincidentally are all pretty much the lowest on the "willing to fight" scale) getting into a war with China or Russia. Why die if all you're going to be doing is saving some Yuropoor or slant?
>You always get the best discussion in off topic threads. I remember /fit/ had an excellent discussion about literature once, it was great.
I wonder if it has anything to do with boardculture not getting in the way, a /lit/ discussion on /fit/ wouldn't be littered with /lit/ memes (does /lit/ have its own memes?)
You say pussywhipped, I say not being stupid. Fighting for your country is an empty justification. We no longer live in a tribal setting where it's just us vs them. It's a global economy. Go pick up a history book 'fighting for your country' is usually the opening act to getting your own people killed for rubbish reasons and get practically nothing to gain.
BASED mods didn't delete this thread for some reason.
Even OP got ticked off.
OP here, ya I got ticked off, that being said the chinkposter either got banned or bored, because he stopped posting after I bitched and moaned. Thread might not be on topic per se, but at least it i constructive right now, instead of the powerlevel bullshit it was devolving into.
Leftists won't have any power by then. The defacto free speech provided by the internet in combination with worsening foreign relations is already eroding their grip on even the most far-left nations in Europe, let alone the US.
Rather than Japan being culturally enriched, I'd say I'm more worried about what will happen to /a/ if anime and manga becomes trendy in the west again.
>anime and manga becomes trendy
Please no, this is what ruined gaming for me. It has nothing to do with "muh sekrit club" either, once something becomes "that" popular it drastically changes everything about it.
>muh arbitrary left/right dynamic
Politics is a lot more complex than that, kiddo. Only retards and children try to distill complex world politics into "lefties and righties". Funnily enough, that's exactly what /pol/ devote 90% of its energy towards.
showing war violence is anti war
very few go to war if they know what its like
>>141177277 already explained that beautifly, they're going to use cute girls, like we used uncle sam
Go kill chinks Onii-chan, nothing bad will happen, everything will be daijoubu!
Islam isnt a country you can go to war with burger
Do you also want to wage war against socialism and cartoons?
Well there's that, and the fact that moot never properly gave this site ways to accommodate high traffic. It doesn't matter how "good" your board or subject matter is, if too many people are using the same discussion space it'll turn to shit.
Nothing is wrong with video games. High budget original titles are at an all time high, indie games are at an all time high, and every year there is a game for literally anybody to enjoy. Stop going to /v/ and learn at least a cursory amount about what you're bitching about.
>showing war violence is anti war
You say that, yet CoD has not only increased enlistment, they actually actively enlist at CoD events and have CoD promotions at military events. ow you aren't going to convince me CoD isn't violent, it is unrealistic glorification of violence.
Yeah, I think these guys are missing the point. REALISTIC depictions of warfare, i.e. dude getting his legs blown off and having to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, will discourage enlistment. Having your elite squad of supersoldiers mow down hordes of evil brown people with an obligatory noble sacrifice thrown in will make people trip over themselves to get in on that fun. The latter is as unrealistic as cute high school girls operation battleships, but both work wonders as propaganda.
You say that, but nearly everything is a carbon copy of some other success. The souls series and the witcher are the only genuinely good recent games I can name.
Don't even get me started on how I hate e-sports and it throatfucking its way into everything for $$$.
Call the retarded moralists that make up the majority in places like Germany, Sweden, and California whatever you want, the point is that they're already falling out of power. Your semantics aren't any concern to me, /pol/tard.
Last I checked, American tourists don't just randomly spit on the ground. Oh, and if you think Americans are loud, you obviously haven't seen some of those Chinese tourists who practically shouts out conversations. They also out-rude American tourists too.
> I'd say I'm more worried about what will happen to /a/ if anime and manga becomes trendy in the west again
Self-moderation with a vengeance is what I'd like to say.
And we both know that there are an awful lot of retards that still use "lefties and righties" out there to the point that it is still a socially acceptable comparison amongst the plebs, with several of them in positions that matter, to our regret.
>You say that, but nearly everything is a carbon copy of some other success
Are you seriously saying that on an ANIME board of all fucking things? Please reevaluate your life.
First, anime is not video games, second he said what would happen to /a/, not anime. And third, if Japan realizes that the west can also give them money then expect more normalfag shit like SnK 2 or SAO 7.
>inb4 that's better than cute girls doing cute thing iteration #3452352
And let's not talk about >>141188780
>half of my comment is a jab at /pol/ being shit
>still calls me a /pol/tard for calling you out on the stupid left/right dichotomy
>does /lit/ have its own memes?
>First, anime is not video games, second he said what would happen to /a/, not anime.
The guy's whole doomsday scenario of increasing Western influence over anime is that anime would go the make believe apocalypse route of video games. I expanded on the video games topic because he is full of shit and/or new as fuck in order to destroy his insinuation that increasing popularity for anime and manga would ruin the mediums. I didn't bring it up out of nowhere, he did.
>And third, if Japan realizes that the west can also give them money then expect more normalfag shit like SnK 2 or SAO 7.
This is entirely baseless. So far, the only recent anime to have simulcast/serious Western influence that I know about were that CG mecha on Netflix, Space Dandy with Toonami, and now Kabaneri with Amazon. And most of the anime on Netflix aren't SAO or SnK tier shows like you want to pretend, but rather SOL, ecchi, and moe shit. There's literally no support for your or anybody else's terror of western influence in anime aside from what you've invented in your head, and reality proves that wrong even.
I dunno, call me a hypocrite, but watching the same moeshit over and over again doesn't bore me, whereas playing yet another insert XYZ game does. Also anime doesn't have something like e-sports. The e-sport shit is a poison seeping into everything, every game has to have some high level competitive element these days, even the souls series is plague by it. They added PvP for shits and giggles, but oh no, that won't do, before you knew the forums were crowded with people bitching and moaning for balance. Can't even just whack someone over the head with a sword without getting a dissertation in your mailbox detailing how you should kill yourself for not following "the rules".
>the west embraces anime and manga due to being one of the only forms of creative entertainment not crippled by political correctness
>Japan starts mass producing taboo shit to capitalize on it
>biggest incest and loli boom the world has ever seen
You're a massive hypocrite, and an idiot to boot if you think that admitting as such somehow excuses you from it. This is only worsened by it being painfully obvious that you've played about ten games ever, and think they represent all games. Your opinions are invalidated, stop posting.
Not him, and I don't know shit about games, but enjoying one thing repeatedly while getting bored of another doesn't seem like hypocrisy, it just seems like not having the exact same attitude toward everything, which is perfectly natural and acceptable.
I have played more games than I care to admit to, and I am honestly bored to death with it. Every once in a while I come across something unique or special or something that stands out, but am usually disappointed by it anyway because its lack of funding causes it to be mediocre.
Comparing the two on the basis of how much they copy other works within their field isn't right to start with though. When I game I am far more invested in what I am doing than when I am watching anime. I can't "play a game in the background", a game has my full attention and if it isn't entertaining that "full attention" 100% then into the trash it goes.
Anime however I will quite often have on in the background while doing some other mundane task that needs doing, I might be sorting out the bills or doing other finances and put on lucky stars in the background.
I don't even know what I am putting so much effort into these posts as all you have been doing is deflect with ad hominems without saying anything constructive whatsoever.
>Anime however I will quite often have on in the background while doing some other mundane task that needs doing, I might be sorting out the bills or doing other finances and put on lucky stars in the background.
Well, now I'm sorry I ever defended you.
That's not the problem. The problem is that this guy has played half a dozen games but has the gall to make sweeping and incorrect generalizations about video games as a whole. This is the direct equivalent of some fag coming to /a/ after watching five whole animes and bitching about how bad anime is. He reeks of ignorance and newness.
>Anime however I will quite often have on in the background while doing some other mundane task that needs doing, I might be sorting out the bills or doing other finances and put on lucky stars in the background.
Yet you have done nothing but spew asinine comments like an edgy teen whilst no backing up anything you said with any sort of argument or exmaples.
By the way, stop trying to use clever language, you are tripping yourself up and sound like an idiot, "direct equivalent", "reeks of ignorance". I hope you feel a little embarassed when you reread your posts after too hastily clicking on submit.
Lastly, since we are apparently stooping to the level of dumb insults anyway;
pot kettle black
So any dynasty ruled by other ethnic groups are shit compared to ancient Han Chinese dynasties like Han and Tang?
It seems like they started to lose to Japan in Manchu ruled Qing when Japan couldn't even take over Korea without chinks fucking them over twice.
>being this new
>thinking that fifth grade vocabulary is "clever language"
>not knowing that "animes" was being used ironically to mock you
Lurk more and never post again, jesus fucking Christ.
"Direct equivalent", as opposed to what? An indirect equivalent? What are you trying to do? You just threw a random adjective in front of the word.
"Reeks of ignorance", come on now, you can do better than that. All you did here was force an insult into the mix for no real reason. Since you are admitting to speaking on a 5th grader level anyway, that is exactly what this is, childish attempts to be insulting.
Animes. No, just stop.
>not knowing that "animes" was being used ironically to mock you
Oh shit, not even him, but did you really just pull the "I was pretending to be retarded" card? Oh lordy lord, 408 posts in and this thread is still fucking golden. Best thread of the week I have been in.
Jesus Christ, newfags are killing this board.
>Best thread of the week I have been in.
Clearly the only thread you've ever been in.
They started to lose when white devils that were 200-years more advanced then everyone in the region back then pretty much slapped down and babied them, while the Qing was in its death throes and tearing itself apart.
I really don't want to be part of this argument, but I can't fucking help it. Is this your first day speaking English or something if you've never heard the phrase "direct equivalent" before?
Weren't Chinks way ahead of the western world hundreds and hundreds of years ago? What the hell happened to them? I read that they had ancient rocket launcers like the huolongjin, handguns and grenades and stuff way before anyone else in the song dynasty?
It's really more from stagnation. Yurop was full of divided states that were warring and competing with each other while Asia was relatively peaceful, stable, and had a gargantuan hegemon and everyone else was more or less okay with in comparison.
Pretty sure China was constant warfare with brief peace with the country being so huge, they were prone to invasions such as mongols. Also the in fighting for control.
Wasn't the song dynasty also when the mongols started invading China? Did that also set them back? It seems like they invented usable explosives hundreds of years before the europeans. The mongols don't seem like people that would focus on advancement.
>Wasn't the song dynasty also when the mongols started invading China? Did that also set them back?
Not that anon but it definitely did, and shortly prior they had been severely hamstrung by the Jin conquest that lost them all of Northern China. Ironically they formed an alliance with the Mongols to get rid of the Jurchens.
>The mongols don't seem like people that would focus on advancement.
It wasn't all that bad, really. A lot of European contact and steadily developing technology and culture, even if it wasn't quite as ground-breaking as the Song economic/technological achievements.
Not the way he is using it no. I have heard of it being used when translating to express whether a word can be translated more or less 1:1 or not. Such as "The German word "Gemütlich" has no direct equivalent translation in English". That isn't how he is using the expression though.
Lets say, for the sake of amusing you, that he is extending that use of the expression to the context of his post though. Then still it is wrong. An /a/ fag and a /v/ fag are clearly not the direct equivalents of each other. They might show similar behaviors that could be considered equivalent, but they aren't "direct equivalents". Him adding the adjective "direct" to the word makes his statement wrong. At best he was using the expression wrong, at worst he was a retard trying to sound clever.
Since you decided to join the argument of your own accord and I am busy with this post anyway, I might as well add that your sentence, "Is this your first day speaking English or something if you've never heard the phrase "direct equivalent" before?" is a grammatical mess. Which is funny, considering its content.
That shovel of yours isn't going to do you much good if you keep going. Here, you'll need something bigger.
/his/ doesn't tend to have too many threads about imperial China, though I find that the few that show up tend to also have a few really knowledgeable regulars.
>Number of lives lost during construction higher than the price expressed in Zimbabwen Dollars.
What is it about Chinese and their complete disregard for human life? On that note, why don't they put that disregard to good use and kickstart some gladiator games again?
Japan should take Trump's advice and be militarily capable of being independent of the US.
Consider the schizophrenic nature of American foreign policy due to pendulum swinging political parties taking over the presidency, and it's habit of being stuck in the ME, while losing the initiative to prevent things like ISIS or Putin taking Crimea.
GATE can be amazing, just let me pitch my WW3 idea to the author, hell he can even go full NIPPON BANZAI if he wants.
I just WW3 and a fully integrated modern society rushing headlong into a fantasy to survive the thermonuclear war.
Radioactive, super science, zombie Russian soldiers can later invade the GATE world at a later date.
You might want to think of buying one of these along with your digging equipment.
I guess this is the perfect time to post shit like "epic" or something, but that'd mean lowering myself to your level so I'll leave it there, by the way not the anon you first replied to.
>I'm sure you can display nationalistic tendencies in your anime without resorting to the military.
Like in the image of the post you quoted? Does Mahou Shoujo count as military?
