With Japan and Abe's cabinet trying to maneuver into a position

With Japan and Abe's cabinet trying to maneuver into a position from which they can amend article 9 of their constitution, do you guys think we will see more militaristic/nationalistic anime in the future? Not even talking about manime, could be cute girls doing cute things with military stuff like GuP, but with a more patriotic tone.

Do you think we will see a change at all in anime with the ever changing and tense political climate we find ourselves in currently?
>>
>>141176437
Maybe I should have made this thread on /pol/, but I really wanted it to be a discussion about possible changes the political climate might cause in anime specifically. I doubt /pol/ would manage to keep it on the anime topic and instead would derail any real discussion.

Yes, expect more inane shit like cute girls doing military stuff and the occassional long black haired japanese nationalist girl insewrted to rant about yamato damashii and how all those koreans and chinese want to prey on poor japan.

In the end, Manime is dead in a nationalist environment as designed by Abe and LDP - because that would be too grim and realistic and be counterproductive to the cause of goating young people to join the SDF and to woo the general population to 'support the troops'. A Ultra-Violent 80s manime would actually show the brutality of war and be understood as anti-war show. Which they were, in some way, since Japan in the 80s was more liberal in their public leanings than nowadays.

So, enjoy more GUP, Haifuri, KanColle etc. masking war-propaganda as otaku pandering shit.

I wonder if Based Abe likes moe anime as much as Tarou Asou did
>>
Well, we already had Gate and it's portrayal of JSDF as the Good Guys Who Can Do No Wrong while simultaneously representing the media as lying bastards and other countries as incompetent retards.
It's basically cryptofascist crap, but I liked it anyway.

Attack on Titan, or:
- why a defensive posture equals guaranteed loss against an implacable enemy which you can neither appease nor run away from
- how the current government is both corrupt and based on a lie
- why the solution is the restoration of True And Pure Royal Blood to the throne (see: Meiji Restoration)
- why life is an an unending violent struggle where you can only win by becoming a living weapon
- humanity needs lebensraum

Do you guys expect it to take a more realistic war glorification approach in the future? By this I mean more realism in the plots and characters, rather than in the depiction of violence. More anime about overcoming an outside threat, about being assertive, about embracing more traditional values, about asserting your place in the world by all means necessary etc.

HAHAHAHA

Most likely, Japan would unilaterally sue for peace once their capital ships, their BMD-capable Aegis destroyers, are sunk by the hundreds of ASBMs China will unleash on them.

Japan is completely defenseless without them, and the US will not risk the loss of their entire pacific fleet and a large chunk of their global power-projection capabilities to wage war against China. Because remember: The US also has to have enough carriers left over to keep Russia and Iran down.
>>

There's already Kankore.

G Reco had the guys trying to change the national defense force into an offensive military as the show's main villains. I was honestly surprised that the netouyos didn't throw a shitfit over the show.

Then again, Tomino is a known for being pretty strongly anti-war in his themes, considering that the villains in Gundam are basically Imperial Japan. There's a reason why Gundam and Ghibli were listed as the two types of anime most responsible for brainwashing Japan by that patriotic anime list netouyo site that an anon linked on /a/ once.

>>
>>141179044
It will affect anime.

Imagine Japan losing to China in a modern day war.

Man, the amount of anal-devastation will be a killing blow against their entire nationalist discourse, which is based on their deep illusion of cultural, technological and racial superiority vs. all those mainland asian races.

Anime will be transformed for sure. Probably as dramatic as Japan's defeat at the hand of the US And probably even more, since at least they could rationalize that defeat with the long-propagated and believed racial superiority of the white man, which has kickstarted their own Meiji reforms in the first place. Nukes and WWII americock-rape was just a later confirmation of that already widely held notion.

But a defeat at the hands of "dirty cockroaches" like the Shinajin? Holy hell. Collective sudoku would be appropriate.
>>
>>141178559
You're are forgetting two things:

1) In a globalized economy, attacking a big country, or even a medium sized one is shooting yourself in the foot. If you destroy their economy, you severily damage yours as well (China attacking Japan is the perfect example of economic suicide).
And many other aspects beside economy, read some Umberto Eco about this.

2) Nuclear weapons. MAD.

Nanking was just an especially bad Japanese chimp-out. It was a chimp out born from butthurt that the 'cockroaches' actually started to fight back and dealt them losses. See, the Jap is not so tough, when he's getting stuck in the mud that is a protracted land-war in asia. Hence, why he murdered hundred thousands of civilians just so that he could deal with his angst issues.

Chinese remember that very well, which is why the upcoming Chinese Type 055 heavy missile cruiser lead ship, with a firepower surpassing all Japanese and US ships, will be named Nanjing and armed with nuclear tipped cruise missiles, while deployed close to Japan.

GATE was shit. I hated it. I hated the dumb pandering and otaku lead.

I hated how the JSDF was so powerful. Not because I hate armies. No, because the fantasy army they were fighting was so inferior in terms of power, that it completely robbed the series of tension or potential.

I also hated the Japanese dick-swinging nationalism and self-righteousness. Especially combined with how Japanese expansion mimics the Japanese rhetoric of "Enlightenment" that was employed by the Empire during World War II, and the imperialism before that.

I guess when your country has been in decline for 20 years and has been dominated by other western powers, you can always turn to fiction to get the power-fantasies you want.

Let's run down the list.

Naruhito, heir apparent to the throne:
>married a woman completely unworthy of joining the Imperial Family, both in upbringing and intelligence and qualifications
>generally perceived as a joke, not very bright

Masako, his wife:
>ugly as FUCK, people call her Ushiko (ushi means cow) or Dosukoi (what sumo wrestler say)
>lazy
>unintelligent; only got into Harvard because of money
>horrible personality, no self-awareness or consideration toward others

Aiko:
>literally retarded - she clearly has a mental problem and is incapable of interacting normally with people
>ugly as FUCK
>probably bullied because she is a disgrace to the Family and unworthy of attending the traditional Gakushuin (although that school itself has declined significantly)

They're just a major disappointment all around. The Akishino family (second son) is much more popular because not only do they look good, they're more learned and cultured and act the part.

>Because they're prettier and have double eyelids and don't look like Koreans?
Mako is a little chubby and not as nice-looking as she used to be, but people still like her because she's well-spoken, compassionate, very active in representing the Imperial Family and goes around performing her duties ably - none of which the Naruhito family are capable of.

He also joined the German Labour Front in 1936, the Reich Air Protection Association in 1939, and the National Socialist People's Welfare in 1941. After joining these organizations, his sales increased from 38,260 RM ($26,993 U.S. dollars in 1932) to over 3,300,000 RM in 1941. His profits also increased in the same time period from 5,000 RM to 241,000 RM. Though he claimed in a 1934-1935 advertisement that he had been a "supplier for National Socialist uniforms since 1924," it is probable that he did not begin to supply them until 1928 at the earliest. This is the year he became an Reichszeugmeisterei-licensed (official) supplier of uniforms to the Sturmabteilung, Schutzstaffel, Hitler Youth, National Socialist Motor Corps, and other party organizations. For production in later years of the war, Hugo Boss used prisoners of war and forced labourers, from the Baltic States, Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Soviet Union.[2]

As for Christianity, it's really toned down in their society. No one gets shit for being a Christian but it's more folded into their philosophy towards living life, if that makes sense, rather than people making a big show of going to church etc. Their idea of religion is different from the West - it's more of a cultural/traditional treasure than a genuine belief in the divine.

I still feel any linkage to a branch of the family that is religious enough to outright favor a minority religion is bad news; Japan picks up enough ideas from the West fucks them up fierce when it tries it for itself. Abe and the other rightists in the Diet are already fucking shit up with their inane Westernized censorship laws for the 2020 Olympics.

Should have told any prissy foreigners to shut up and suck it up, but no, they have to fuck up freedoms previously enjoyed by the Japanese to fit an impossible (and needlessly restraining) idea of propriety.

Last thing needed in Japan is any rise of Christian movements (which would do anything Christian completely wrong) and maligns the majority beliefs in the process.

It has something to do with the fact that he doesn't do everything on his own. Italian incompetence is to blame here. The Soviets "put their shit together because of a number of reasons, none of which are relevant to Italian incompetence. Italy didn't even understand the concept of logistics, the Soviets are a completely different beast which was also not fully mobilized and found itself on the back foot.
I don't know what these links are supposed to prove, Mussolini was no general, of course he had his own share of incompetent decisions but the non existent quality of the Italian military, general staff and so on is to blame. kek

This will never happen. Seriously. Virtually every aspect of their culture - holiday, cuisine, etiquette and code of conduct, customer service, craftsmanship, everything - was built one way or another on Shinto/Buddhism. The thing with the Olympics is probably a compromise, because Abe and Co. make a point of not giving a fuck what the West thinks in terms of social values and progressivism. I was in Kyoto a couple summers back and met two Mormon kids on bikes, white shirt and tie and all, trying to talk to the locals about their faith. They told me (nearly in tears, because they hadn't spoken in English for a while and were treated coldly by everyone) that people either run away or slam doors in their faces and don't give a fuck. It's like going to the Vatican and trying to convert people to Islam.

Had Germany not been needed in Greece, it could have started its offensive on Russia weeks earlier, which in turn would in all likelihood have led to them being able to take Moscow and possibly Lenin/Stalingrad. The kicker question here is did you work with them PROFESSIONALLY as your day job and career for an extended length of time, living in Japan?

The Japanese people are nice when you're a tourist, but if you're going to live with them, they have certain rules and assumptions about you (both fair and unfair) as a gaijin.

As well, the bringing gifts to you part is a politeness thing. It shows humility and their willingness to conform to wherever they're visiting as "outsiders." They do the same when they move to new neighborhoods in Japan. If you were visiting Japan, the same would be expected of you.

Indeed. However, several key decisions, such as the invasion of Greece simple for the sake of dickwaving, without no thought put in the capacity of the army or the stragic ramifications of that decision, spliting all division to "increase" the army as well as the "genius" attempt to micro the whole nation was something that he took by his initiative, and thus can be blamed for then.
>>141184930
>Had Germany not been needed in Greece, it could have started its offensive on Russia weeks earlier, which in turn would in all likelihood have led to them being able to take Moscow and possibly Lenin/Stalingrad. Whether they would have won the war from that point onward is a different question of curse.
Honestly, that is unlikely, Germany delayed the invasion to get more soviet oil as per the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, plus the was also the first Rasputitsa, that started later that year and would have rendered any large scale campaing impossible.

America actually is pretty good about "diversity" in the business world; however it comes down a lot to how natural your English is. The better it is in accent and vernacular, the less likely anybody will assume you're a foreigner.
It's mostly white, but we have to remember that's just both the majority and as well that there's a couple generations of educational crawling to get to management positions unless you go full-grindstone like Asian/Indians in pre-professional education.

There's a glass ceiling for everyone in the west anyway. Companies in the west realised they could save money by external hiring rather than internal hiring. Combined with outsourcing, the idea of a lifelong career in a company died in the west.

Employees responded in kind by switching jobs every three or so years to ensure their own paychecks didn't stagnate.

This phenomenon has gotten so bad that noncompete clauses in contracts have started to become a thing.

What I'm saying is that spending 4 or so years in Japan is not nearly as melodramatic as /a/ makes it out to be. The overtime is more worrisome than the xenophobia.
>>

Ya, it does. Despite all the news about "muh policies", if companies believe they can get away with discrimination towards immigrants, then they will hire the westerner over MrSyrian.

>>
>>141185421
Not really. There's a reason why 'diversity' is pretty much a meme among HR people. The reason why companies are so into hiring females and blacks is that most management positions are held by white males in their 50s.

'Diversity' is really just corporate PR. Beyond the occasional Indian, management is going to stay white for a long, long time.

It was a very traumatic experience for them, you know. There are still survivors. Innocent people died horribly. I think it's Japan's version of 9/11, even though the global consequences and scale of tragedy aren't comparable, because it was a bit of a wake up call and caused them to reevaluate many things.

And last I checked, the guy hasn't been executed yet. He's STILL on death row and more or less senile now, I don't know what's preventing them from pressing the switch or at least put him out of his misery.

4-5 years isn't really "living" there though in terms of what we were talking about though. It's becoming a permanent resident a la marriage and/or a career there.

4-5 years is a college stint; that's barely anything in the age where people move every 4-5 years BECAUSE of education and/or changing jobs.

Marrying someone and becoming part of their ethnic traditions and roles, working as a permanent employee and not a contractor, etc. These are the things that will test your patience.

The Japanese "work" as much as most office people do anywhere (read: they do actual work for about 2-3 hours a day unless they're management, then bullshit around on the Internet or something, so long as it LOOKS like they're being diligent).
Nomi-nication and the image of a good worker is an inane addition to that, yes. For most people, they still have to linger after work because unless the boss takes off, nobody can leave. However, the boss to look like a "boss" in Japan has to do his pseudo-shogun schtick and invite everyone to drink with him because "they were all working so hard."

Cue inordinately long hours and bodily stress, combined with a usually long commute to get from wherever you work in Tokyo or Osaka back to the suburb where you technically lay your head and ostensibly have family (that you get to spend time with beyond maybe breakfast or dinner about once a month).

Technically we are. I mean, it's difficult to ever own a home in that same circumstance, and set up longer-lasting roots (memberships, friendships, etc.). I mean, you're an idiot if you "buy" a house rather than rent it if you don't know that you're going to live there in that same city the rest of your life.

I think it's just Americans being exposed to general east-asian racism for the first time. All east-asian countries are extremely racist (if anything, Japs are relatively welcoming towards westerners), but Japan has a bigger presence in American culture and it's a very popular tourism destination. Americans who go there for the first time are shocked to see not everyone is jumping to suck their cock at any possible opportunity, so they come back and tell these exaggerated tales about the horrible xenophobic nipponese.

>xenophobia
As a blonde blue eyed Dutch/German who has lived in Japan, I can say that I have never experienced xenophobia there. At most it has been a curiosity of them towards the "unknown and exotic". A lot of nips have never met a foreigner in their lives, let alone spoken with one. So ya, you might be treated somewhat differently, but not differently in a horrible way, unless you are one of those tumblerinas who bought into the meme and think that any differentiation is evil by definition.

For example I have had people come up to me to have their picture taken with me because of my blonde hair and the fact that I am ~1.90 tall. Why would I take offense at this? I AM different, why get offended by them recognizing this and being interested in that? If anything it has helped me meet people. If I had looked japanese I would have most likely blended in with the otaku crowd. I can also make fun of petty much everything without having to worry about accidentally stepping on a snowflake. I could do a little Hitler act and the people I was with would have a laugh rather than tell me "you shouldn't do that" or just flat out fine me/arrest me like they do here at home.

I have never felt more free than I have done in Japan. I can do what I like there, I can say what I like there. Being home in Germany feels like being put back into a birdcage after being allowed to fly around the room.

The Japanese had the high bid and they wanted to feel internationally relevant again (countries in ailing social and economic straights tend to do this, like for the World Cup).
And then they decided that they didn't want the rest of the world to think of them as weird perverts (even though the world was going to do that ANYWAYS).

Hell, I think they were planning on AKB48 to do the opening show.
Fucking AKB48.
Of underaged schoolgirls in miniskirts and idol-ized school uniforms.

The entire concept of the 2020 Japan Olympics is currently a social mess, but so to is Japan at the moment. They can't decide what they want to be as a nation, and are foundering under stagnation in which an overly conservative movement has politically taken force because it gives the only standing concept of doing "anything" for better or ill.

Meanwhile, Mao went full retard by turning everyone into illiterate peasants. Even the fucking Mongolians and Qing knew that being educated was important.

We have a fairly high standing army for a first world nation; we legit have enough manpower that we don't even really need to even consider a possible draft/call-to-arms situation outside of World War 3.
So naturally we're fairly passive about it; as well, who the hell would challenge us enough that we'd care about fighting "the good fight" for our nation beyond empty recruitment platitudes? We sure as hell fought for our freedom in the Middle East (directly, I mean, not talking about the technical geopolitical/economic gains), didn't we?
>my issue with that particular graph is that it also includes the fact that a lot of nations have skew in terms of their population and as well the idea of the people being polled as to how much they "like" their nation enough to ostensibly fight for it, Hong Kong and Japan being fairly understandable

Yeah, I think these guys are missing the point. REALISTIC depictions of warfare, i.e. dude getting his legs blown off and having to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, will discourage enlistment. >First, anime is not video games, second he said what would happen to /a/, not anime.

The guy's whole doomsday scenario of increasing Western influence over anime is that anime would go the make believe apocalypse route of video games. I expanded on the video games topic because he is full of shit and/or new as fuck in order to destroy his insinuation that increasing popularity for anime and manga would ruin the mediums. I didn't bring it up out of nowhere, he did.

>And third, if Japan realizes that the west can also give them money then expect more normalfag shit like SnK 2 or SAO 7.

This is entirely baseless. So far, the only recent anime to have simulcast/serious Western influence that I know about were that CG mecha on Netflix, Space Dandy with Toonami, and now Kabaneri with Amazon. And most of the anime on Netflix aren't SAO or SnK tier shows like you want to pretend, but rather SOL, ecchi, and moe shit. There's literally no support for your or anybody else's terror of western influence in anime aside from what you've invented in your head, and reality proves that wrong even.

>>141188859
I dunno, call me a hypocrite, but watching the same moeshit over and over again doesn't bore me, whereas playing yet another insert XYZ game does. Also anime doesn't have something like e-sports. The e-sport shit is a poison seeping into everything, every game has to have some high level competitive element these days, even the souls series is plague by it. They added PvP for shits and giggles, but oh no, that won't do, before you knew the forums were crowded with people bitching and moaning for balance. Can't even just whack someone over the head with a sword without getting a dissertation in your mailbox detailing how you should kill yourself for not following "the rules".

>>
>>141189334
I have played more games than I care to admit to, and I am honestly bored to death with it. Every once in a while I come across something unique or special or something that stands out, but am usually disappointed by it anyway because its lack of funding causes it to be mediocre.

Comparing the two on the basis of how much they copy other works within their field isn't right to start with though. When I game I am far more invested in what I am doing than when I am watching anime. I can't "play a game in the background", a game has my full attention and if it isn't entertaining that "full attention" 100% then into the trash it goes.
Anime however I will quite often have on in the background while doing some other mundane task that needs doing, I might be sorting out the bills or doing other finances and put on lucky stars in the background.

I don't even know what I am putting so much effort into these posts as all you have been doing is deflect with ad hominems without saying anything constructive whatsoever.

Not the way he is using it no. I have heard of it being used when translating to express whether a word can be translated more or less 1:1 or not. Such as "The German word "Gemütlich" has no direct equivalent translation in English". That isn't how he is using the expression though.

Lets say, for the sake of amusing you, that he is extending that use of the expression to the context of his post though. Then still it is wrong. An /a/ fag and a /v/ fag are clearly not the direct equivalents of each other. They might show similar behaviors that could be considered equivalent, but they aren't "direct equivalents". Him adding the adjective "direct" to the word makes his statement wrong. At best he was using the expression wrong, at worst he was a retard trying to sound clever.

Since you decided to join the argument of your own accord and I am busy with this post anyway, I might as well add that your sentence, "Is this your first day speaking English or something if you've never heard the phrase "direct equivalent" before?" is a grammatical mess. Which is funny, considering its content.

>Number of lives lost during construction higher than the price expressed in Zimbabwen Dollars.
What is it about Chinese and their complete disregard for human life? On that note, why don't they put that disregard to good use and kickstart some gladiator games again?

Japan should take Trump's advice and be militarily capable of being independent of the US.

Consider the schizophrenic nature of American foreign policy due to pendulum swinging political parties taking over the presidency, and it's habit of being stuck in the ME, while losing the initiative to prevent things like ISIS or Putin taking Crimea.

GATE can be amazing, just let me pitch my WW3 idea to the author, hell he can even go full NIPPON BANZAI if he wants.

I just WW3 and a fully integrated modern society rushing headlong into a fantasy to survive the thermonuclear war.

Radioactive, super science, zombie Russian soldiers can later invade the GATE world at a later date.
