A lot of stuff Okada originally had planned for the series got stripped out. That's why we have episodes where it feels like very little happens, few character deaths, and hanging plot/developmemt threads that are poorly handled.

Basically everything you listed was apparently supposed to be a non-issue in the original script, but a fuckton of changes were made late into production.

Ein wasn't going to be a bigbad throwaway villain.

There was going to be more personal drama inside Tekkadan itself (internal crewmember betrayals).

Tekkadan was going to be a much more amoral and unfavourably looked upon company for it.

Kudelia wasn't going to be a shining beacon but a princess of disaster for associating with Tekkadan.

The last battle was supposed to make Tekkadan suffer heavy losses (and not just of nonames who nobody cares about).
