a lot of things in the episode that don't seem out of place at first glance only happened as they did because the lazy guy had a toothache and hid it from his reliable friend, trying to not burden him with his problems and taking matters up himself. But because of his laziness he never went for the appointment. He put a bunch of reminder stickers on his notebook saying "today for sure I'll go to the dentist" and his mom was constantly calling him to make sure he goes, but out of his immense laziness he just couldn't bring himself to go
