Streampunk + Chinese is something I don't think I've seen before because its such a strange match-up, but its actually really cool in practice. I think that, for all the talk of it not being a curse, there is a supernatural element to the infection, at least in that it does not behave in accordance with physics (and I use the term broadly) as we understand it; the infection is way to fast, for one, no even getting into the steam zombie stuff.

That said, just because it's magic DOES NOT mean it cannot make sense; the best sci-fi/fantasy works are the ones that set rules and then tell a story around them.

ON THE TOPIC OF TRAIN STOPS

All the calls to make the trains stop outside the walls aren't nearly as much of a common-sense solution as some people seem to think they are. The problem, in large part, is the homicidal steam zombies outside the city.

Now, consider that KabAIDS does not seem to give the steam zombies neither super long legs, nor jump units, jetpacks, or any other method of moving generally unlike a human body.

There are some mechanical problems with making a human body move at high-quality steam train speeds; while not impossible, it is going to be much more difficult for the zombies to attack a train moving at speed compared to a stationary one. And assuming the zombies respond to stimuli, it is likely that there may be a pack of them trailing the train. That won't be a problem if they can't catch up to the train and it stops behind the walls, but if you slow the train below what it necessary brake in the station or to a stop, suddenly those zombies catch up, and you've created a problem where you had none.

The LOGICAL thing to do would be to have an smaller enclosure in the walls, a sort of inverted ravelin or demilune, prehaps elongated for easy braking, but fortified to resist further zombie assaults if a train is compromised. The train stops, people get off, and then they're let into the city proper after inspection. The train can then advance through a second gate to the maintenance yards proper, kept seperate so you don't lose your engineers and hardware to a failure.
