Hey guys.

I've worked in scanlation but due to some issues some of the groups i've worked in had to close down then i started gaming again but I want to get back into it.

I used to Typeset & clean

Some of the projects i worked on:

Tokyo Ghoul
Tokyo Ghoul:Re
The god of highschool
Noblesse
Bleach
Naruto
One Piece
Fairy Tail
& a few more

Sadly I don't have the time to do typesetting anymore due to some real-life priorities but i'm looking to get back into cleaning, sadly I've lost my touch after a year of absence from photoshop, anyone got a nice and easy guide to get me started again ?

Sorry but digital raws are better now.

Actually, digital raws would be nice because I can somewhat read Japanese now, especially for shounen manga, but I still haven't put in any effort to go away from the usual places I read scanlations.

Maybe there's a convenient place to get all the raw manga I'm interested in in good quality that I just don't know about yet
>>
>>139704190
Saw the anime. It was terrible. In any case, when was the last time a scanlation group put out a chapter and how far behind is it currently to the raws? Also, how big are the chapters?

Anime was rushed to shit, as is the case with a lot of adaptations.

Series is finished, last scanned chapter was released June last year, only about 20 chapters need to be scanned, and they're fairly short, 20 page chapters on average.

I've redrawed this page and wanted to color it
>>
>>139714176
That was a color page in the original magazine chapter. You're better off just tracking down the issue it appeared in if you want it in color.
>>
>>139714382
Nice to know. I'll try searching it.
>>
>>139714483
It should be easier if you check either the front or back of the volume to see what issues the chapters originally appeared in. I'm not sure if old Young Jump issues are even online though, worst case scenario you'd need to buy it.
I think I actually have Young Jump Seed lying around somewhere, it had Kagyu on the cover and a special prequel chapter with a color page. You probably won't need that for a long time though, it wasn't included in a volume until the very last one where they put it after the last chapter.
>>
>>139714610
Last time I couldn't get any of the magazines, luckily the translator had the tanks. As for the seed, having it now wouldn't hurt.

>>139715327
Well, I'm away from home right now so I wouldn't be able to scan Seed for at least a week or so anyway. The cover is pic related, that's easy to get online. The only thing you'd want as a scan is the color page, it might be worth seeing if that's already online somewhere too. If it isn't, maybe I can try and scan it without debinding since it seems like a waste for a single page.
>>
>>139703696
Do you happen to have any Tokyo Ghoul raws left? Preferably magazine scans. I'm not a cleaner so I can't help you there, my knowledge is very basic.
>>
>>139715507
No hurries anon, send it if it doesn't inconvenience you and I'll be thankful.
But a lot off other color pages are completely lost, that's why I wanted to learn to color properly.
>>
>>139715970
If I remember it next time I'm home, I'll try and scan it and post whenever I see a scanlation thread up.
I really just got the issue for Kigurumi and the Godspeed oneshot so I haven't read much else. It's mostly just oneshots and an OPM special chapter so probably nothing else worth scanning, although it did come with a Tokyo Ghoul alternate volume cover if anyone's interested in those and it isn't scanned already.

How the actual fuck should I clean/redraw the bottom left text area?
I'm serious, I have no idea what I should do with the sousho/calligraphy. This page (and the top left of the following one) are the only parts that have this problem.

Nobody can fucking read it because nobody knows sousho (including the average Nip), so we're not translating it, which means we want to leave the calligraphic text/art alone. The problem then becomes: how do I draw it if nobody knows what the fuck it says/looks like?

Should I just erase/clean the top character of it and then try to redraw the rest? I don't quite want to plaster over it with mega-sized text. Pls help.
>>
>>139731538
don't erase the sousho. the reader is not supposed to undertsand it. erase/redraw the rest. place the translation in place of the erased normal text.
if you want, make a translator's note explaining the situation.

Is it worth it to clean and redraw onomatopoeias? Honestly it seems like a waste of time.

Also I've seen some groups that translate sfx like "grin" and "stare" but not "bump" or "slam". How does one define the line between sound effect and thing that actually needs to be translated?
>>
>>139749906
>Is it worth it to clean and redraw onomatopoeias?
No, unless they very simple and/or there's very few of them, or you working fr some publisher, or you autistic enough.
>How does one define the line between sound effect and thing that actually needs to be translated?
Common sense?
Honestly, I like to see all sfx translated - halfassed sfx worse than no sfx at all.
>>
>>139749906
>Is it worth it to clean and redraw onomatopoeias?
For me, I prefer original better.
>>
>>139750167
>halfassed sfx worse than no sfx at all
But what if I decide to not translate any sfx, and then some sfx that are essential to understand what's going on pop up (e.g. a dark panel with "slash slash" that implies someone is being killed by a sword, though the actual action is not shown)?
>>
>>139750518
>some sfx that are essential to understand
Here's your answer. If it's essential, then you translating it regardless.
>>
>>139750605
That's what I thought, I guess it just bugs me there's no clear guidelines when it comes to translating sfx.
>>
>>139749906
Just translate them all and add sfx notes or something. There's no need to go over the Japanese.
>>
>>139749906
Honestly you just have to go with gut feeling, but I think if it looks like pic related, then it shouldn't be redrawn. If it's just plain text, then it's fine to replace ("grin" and "stare", for example, are usually like that), in my opinion.
Usually I don't even bother translating most sfx, only the simple and/or important ones. Again, mostly just gut feeling.

"Sieg für uns" sounds a bit ungrammatical if you're wishing someone to be victorious as a greeting. You'd find it more in a phrase like "Das war ein großer Sieg für uns." (That was a great victory for us).

Indexanon back. Can someone explain to me the banter Himegami pulls at the bottom. がんばれって/がんばろ

Can you scans those three comic alive issues?

I think Comic Heaven 19 has chapter 2 of 流れ星に願うほど僕らは素直じゃない, I've been meaning to read that after reading chapter 1.
Other than that, SQ.19 would be great to have since I've got all the numbered issues but not the ones from when it was seasonal. Don't know if you feel like scanning a whole magazine though.
Could you post the tables of contents for some other issues so we can see what's in them? At least any oneshots are probably worth scanning.

Short hair-chan says that if they see Sister-chan cheering them on with all she's got, the students will think "Oh I've gotta do my best"
Himegami-chan says that instead of "Oh I've gotta do my best", it'll be more like "Hey, do your best!"
So even though she's a cheerleader, I guess, she'll make the students cheer her on instead.

At least that's what I think it is, I don't know anything about the manga though.

That sounds pretty likely, thanks. You just have to cheer on your loli-sensei if she's so fired up
