Because I actually respect Kyoani, so I expect more of them. It's especially dissapointing that it's that aspect since one of the thing they excel at is character animation.

Reusing characters with slight variations is smart. The less the character designer has to put into being "original"), the more they can put into making something expressive and detailed. The more comfortable and practiced animators are with a model, the more creative and adventurous they can be with it.

Do you complain about your favorite live-action director casting his favorite actors? Then don't complain about your favorite studio using their favorite artists.
