What's so special about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and why is it so critically acclaimed?

I've finished watching part 3 and desu I don't see why its such a really well respected show. I mean I understand why people love it, its got manly men doing things and a good sense of honesty in what its trying to achieve but many critics love to consider it "the savior of anime" and hype it to high heavens.

Heck part 4 is already being coined AOTS even before being airing. Not even Boku no Hero Academia is receiving this much hype.

Personally while I found it fun (moreso for the memes), it also has its fair share of problems. In part 3 for example there are a lot of edgy moments throughout (dogs getting impaled through the face anybody?), the humor is downright juvenile (aka the whole episode with Polnareff as a kid), Jotaro is nothing more than a gary stu and the entire final episode is an asspull.

Now I wouldn't have had a problem with the hype if only the fans of the show hadn't bashed other shows by citing criticisms that are actually present in JoJo. What so if another anime shows people getting butchered for no reason its automatically shit but apparently it gets a pass in JoJo? Is there something I'm missing here?

I think it's just a fun series, not necessarily 'critically acclaimed' like it's a storytelling darling. It's meant to be a bit crass, jump the shark (on purpose) quite a bit, characters wield powers that are extremely overpowered or completely broken beyond all logic. It's like a great pro-wrestling show, where nothing makes much sense at times, but it's still top tier entertainment when all the parts come together, the visuals, voice acting, the comedy, the action and the wild, insane, bizarre premise.

'd like to add to this that a reason why many people stick with JoJo so much is because of how diverse it is. Every part is radically different from the last, where parts 1 and 4 aren't even comparable anymore (if you didn't know better you'd say they were 2 different series). Every part has something different going for it, and it keeps the series fresh over time. A new part of JoJo is pretty hype because it won't be just another season, it'll be a whole new plot, setting, characters, everything. There is a reason I stuck with the manga all the way from beginning to end without ever getting bored with the series.

Eh, it had its fair share of problems. Gio was a pretty boring main character (still not as boring as Jotaro from SDC though), Diavolo was a pretty generic villain kinda like Dio but without any connection to the other characters and lacking all of his homoerotic charme, and the pacing was really horrible. The stands were great, though.

The reason why Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is so great, to me at least, is that it's a very creative series with a lot of interesting concepts especially when it comes to fights. The plot isn't that stellar, yeah, but I feel like the fun situations and characters more than make up for it.

If you didn't like Parts 1-3, then I'd say it's just best to drop the series.

This is what I like about the series too. I love how it feels like an epic story that continues on from generation to generation with different tones that match the current time period. JoJo isn't the story of one main character it's the story of an entire family and their accomplishments and failures which makes it a lot more interesting.

I can't really put Joseph into words, but Jotaro is generally rather rude, Josuke comes off as a short-tempered delinquent, Giorno wants to be a GangStar, Jolyne starts off in jail for murder.

Also, the general tone of the characters is very different from your usual action manga. They felt unique or genuine without falling into flanderization. They all have quirks, or gestures that strengthen the characters without burying them into routine. Also, the humor is fucking genuine, you don't see that too much in other manga.

I think that is a result of Araki being a big fucking westaboo, he combines the best from both worlds.

What do you think of the past exploration?I can't think of a term for it but Araki uses one of the last few chapters in a fight to give a background story for the minor villain or crew member.
