I had trouble enjoying the ant arc because it just felt like Dragonball Z where a new more powerful enemy just pops up out of nowhere. Also why were they born with clothes, that's not right. Besides that it's perfection.

Youpi, pouf and meruem didn't deserve those deaths. It's totally ironic that the presumed evil ants are killed in such an inhumane way, especially considering they were starting to find their humanity themselves (except pouf) .
Even pitou was turning herself around. She felt sympathy toward gon and I honestly think pitou felt bad for what she did to kite. If she knew gon didn't give a fuck about the king, she would have just walked away

Just the constant bitching from autistic grimdark /v/ kiddies who want edgy dark atmosphere for no reason. 2011 was very good and encapsulated what the series was about: the sense of adventure in the beginning, the dramatic fight sequences later on with Yorknew and Greed Island and the immense power levels by Chimera arc. It's very loyal to the source material unlike 1999 and thus it is objectively better

They somehow managed to make the music worse than the 99 version, which other than the ops/eds wasn't anything special.

Whoever directed the 2011 version didn't understand how to create tension. This ruined the Ant arc and made the York Shin arc a snooze.

Everytime the 2011 version diverged from the manga it got shitty real fast, whereas the 99 version's non-manga stuff was great.

I guess it's tied to the series itself but the exposition is some of the most tedious I've ever seen. So many episodes just dedicated to explaining something relentlessly minutes at a time while everyone just listens.

There a point where it gets excessive and detracts from the whole and it flew past that without a care.

It's a pretty bland adaptation that doesn't really bring anything to the table except for a couple of episodes. Then there's the altered story and characterization which was really baffling.

Both were overall just above average adaptations for different reasons. I feel bad for those who watched either anime before reading the manga.

The OST had some okay tunes, but the vast majority of them were awful. Especially at the beginning of the series. It got a bit better at the end, but even then they kept recycling the same few songs most of the time.

First half - One of the worst OSTs I've ever heard
Second half - Decentish, but should've had more variety

Some of the EDs were fine, but YOU CAN SMILE AGAIN was a mistake in all regards.
