I'm feeling OP is Grimgar hater because Grimgar no way getting this numbers, and when the actual numbers are out, it can lead people laugh to Grimgar even it's doing okay.

So is there going to be a drop for Vol 2 without the OVA episode or is it going to remain curiously consistent like all A-1 shows. I still remember that one Aldnoah Vol 2 thing where it's BD went down substantially but DVD increased to make up nearly exactly the difference. Shits always fucked with there shows and they always do way better than the estimate. Either they really are padding there sales or they have some storefront bonuses that other releases just lack.

happens all the time. For example, The Gate (Season 1) was mediocre on stalker all season, and it ended up a top 3 seller when it actually went on sale. 'Monogatari as crazy as that franchise sells, is ALWAYS unrepresented on stalker preorders; as the final sales numbers always nuke the stalker projections, sometimes by far more then x3 (though monogatari tends to sell a ton on normal DVD versions for some reason, so BD is a poor projector for how much that series sells). Kyoani usually outperforms it's stalker numbers by a modest amount; probably due to the kyoani store.

right at the line between shit and average. generally anime need to hit 3k sales per volume to make the studio break even, this one will be close to that number. we know the first volume is slightly over that number, however the first volume typically sells more then the others. so we'll have to see if it manages to keep it's per volume average over 3k.

Generally 5-8k is considered above average. Any anime that can manage that much on average per volume for the whole series may get picked up for another season.

Aniplex really was absolutely dominating in BD sales for a while at the turn of the decade peaking at over a 50% share of the market in 2011 thanks to a string of big hits like Bakemonogatari, Fate/Zero, Madoka, Guilty Crown, Ano Hana, Durarara etc all happening at the same time and which are largely why the current generation of fans are so obsessed with their key go to people and franchises now. That allowed them to work their formula for quite a while after even as the quality of their shows, especially originals declined.

In recent years they've been coasting on those 2009-2011 smash successes and names like Urobuchi, Kajiura, Sawano and Shinbo and getting arrogant much like Sony did with the PS3 and the stuff they're putting out is nowhere near as good as it was before. They're now relying on and outright milking brand/staff loyalties as well as whales too hard instead of just focusing on making good shows and really haven't had very many new things take off so much as some really high profile flops like Aldnoah.Zero, Punch Line, Charlotte and Mekaku City Actors and the Durarara x2 3 way split cour thing that were very much advertised as being the next big thing. Were it not for Fate and some Monogatari seasons they might actually have had to rethink their approach by now. Like for example they should really stop split couring so many things including with movies like Kizu now as it seems to be undermining them more than anything.

Lately it's been Bandai Visual and King Records with idol, sci-fi and tank shit that have been topping a lot of charts. Even iDOLM@STER CG and Uta no Prince are mostly a result of Bandai and Kings version of the package and brand loyalty and those have been by far A-1's best selling shows in recent years. Really it just looks like the light novel boom is close to over and companies need to start actually making real anime again or get the fuck out of the industry.

Was it Anno that predicted the decline of the current status quo in "the system" that the anime industry subscribes to? It really does seem like save for a few smash hits like GuP, Love Live and Otsomatsu that the market is going into rapid decline, especially LN stuff. And yet they keep making more of them season after season and they keep getting worse and more similar. It feels like watching a lemming march. Like okay it's Winter but if this happens in Spring too it has to be a huge wakeup call.
